A new filtering approach dedicated to heat sources computation from thermal field measurements

    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper presents a new approach in heat source evaluation from thermal field measurements. A modal projection based on dynamics (Discrete Modal Decomposition) is used to estimate the spatial term of a heat diffusion problem. A numerical example is presented in order to validate this approach and compare it to a more classical spectral decompostion (based on strictly thermal considerations). Results show that the proposed projection basis not only provides closer assessement of the heat sources but is also more stable to measurement noise and side effects

    Get PDF
Proximal femoral fractures in the elderly are generally fixed with osteosynthetic devices. For specific fractures called intertrochanteric, it is possible to fix the fracture in an intramedullary way (inside the bone) or in an extramedullary way (outside the bone). For each type of treatment, hospitals are equipped with the two fixing systems. The differences in physical characteristics between individuals imply the existence of multiple references implants and therefore additional costs in terms of equipment. In this thesis work,an original implant adaptable to most people has been developed. This implant will provide surgeons greater flexibility during surgery but also significantly reduce stocks implants in hospitals. The mechanical behavior of the implant is studied in different cases of fractures by two complementary approaches,a finite element analysis and an experimental study employing stereo-image correlation technique from images of high speed cameras. The results of the numerical calculation are compared with those derived from tests on synthetic femurs, then cadaver in anatomy laboratory. Comparisons with existing implants show that this new implant concept allows for a more stable fixation of bone fragments and a good compression of the fracture.SAVOIE-SCD - Bib.électronique (730659901) / SudocGRENOBLE1/INP-Bib.électronique (384210012) / SudocGRENOBLE2/3-Bib.électronique (384219901) / SudocSudocFranceF

    No full text
8 pagesInternational audienceCirdo project is intended to establish new healthcare systems to ensure the safety at home of seniors and people with decreasing independence. In particular, extending "e-lio" (http://www.technosens.fr/) device, Cirdo aims to develop an audio/video-based system which makes it possible for elderly to live with a sufficient degree of autonomy. To achieve this goal, generic purposes on video analysis and audio processing are discussed and implemented in the same process. Audio and video analysis algorithms are launched simultaneously and thinks to GPU implementation, the tasks are done in real time. To comply with the requirements set out in the Cirdo project namely: respect privacy and preserve personal data, the processing tasks is performed through background tasks, without any human intrusion. In order to have different types of fall for our experiences, multiple scenarios were designed and performed by several persons. Besides the technical aspect, the project also focuses on generic technology validation by potential users and their human environment (family, caregivers/care takers...). Psychological and ergonomic assessment on the use of services developed was conducted. It focused on the usefulness, usability and accessibility and acceptance of the tool. This evaluation was completed by critical investigation of knowledge acquired by professionals (geriatricians, caregivers school and associations)

Experimental characterization of the intragranular strain field in columnar ice during transient creep

    Get PDF
A digital image correlation (DIC) technique has been adapted to polycrystalline ice specimens in order to characterize the development of strain heterogeneities at an intragranular scale during transient creep deformation (compression tests). Specimens exhibit a columnar microstructure so that plastic deformation is essentially two-dimensional, with few in-depth gradients, and therefore surface DIC analyses are representative of the whole specimen volume. Local misorientations at the intragranular scale were also extracted from microstructure analyses carried out with an automatic texture analyzer before and after deformation. Highly localized strain patterns are evidenced by the DIC technique. Local equivalent strain can reach values as much as an order of magnitude larger than the macroscopic average. The structure of the strain pattern does not evolve with strain in the transient creep regime. Almost no correlation between the measured local strain and the Schmid factor of the slip plane of the underlying grain is observed, highlighting the importance of the mechanical interactions between neighboring grains resulting from the very large viscoplastic anisotropy of ice crystals. Finally, the experimental microstructure was introduced in a full-field fast Fourier transform polycrystal model; simulated strain fields are a good match with experimental ones

Practical residue curve map analysis applied to solvent recovery in non-ideal binary mixtures by batch distillation processes

    Get PDF
Batch distillation inherent advantages has initiated recent search for process feasibility rules enabling the separation of azeotropic or difficult zeotropic binary mixtures thanks to the addition of an entrainer. A systematic procedure enabling to find suitable process and eventually suitable entrainer for the separation of zeotropic or azeotropic binary mixture is described. It brings together into practical use batch distillation process feasibility rules, chemical affinity insight and thermodynamic data analysis available in the literature. The procedure has been implemented in a wizard computer tool and is illustrated on the separation of the water – acetonitrile binary homoazeotrope. Through this tool, all possible 224 feasibility rules and 326 batch distillation sequence processes are checked systematically for each entrainer

Two parallel pathways connect glutamine metabolism and mTORC1 activity to regulate glutamoptosis.

    Get PDF
Glutamoptosis is the induction of apoptotic cell death as a consequence of the aberrant activation of glutaminolysis and mTORC1 signaling during nutritional imbalance in proliferating cells. The role of the bioenergetic sensor AMPK during glutamoptosis is not defined yet. Here, we show that AMPK reactivation blocks both the glutamine-dependent activation of mTORC1 and glutamoptosis in vitro and in vivo. We also show that glutamine is used for asparagine synthesis and the GABA shunt to produce ATP and to inhibit AMPK, independently of glutaminolysis. Overall, our results indicate that glutamine metabolism is connected with mTORC1 activation through two parallel pathways: an acute alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent pathway; and a secondary ATP/AMPK-dependent pathway. This dual metabolic connection between glutamine and mTORC1 must be considered for the future design of therapeutic strategies to prevent cell growth in diseases such as cancer. This work was supported by funds from the following institutions: Agencia Estatal de Investigación/European Regional Development Fund, European Union (PGC2018-096244- B-I00, SAF2016-75442-R), Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain, Spanish National Research Council—CSIC, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale —INSERM, Université de Bordeaux, Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale, the Conseil Régional d’Aquitaine, SIRIC-BRIO, Fondation ARC, and Institut Européen de Chimie et Biologie. CD95 recruits PLCγ1 to trigger a calcium response promoting Th17 accumulation in inflamed organs of lupus mice

    Get PDF
CD95 ligand (CD95L) is expressed by immune cells and triggers apoptotic death. Metalloprotease-cleaved CD95L (cl-CD95L) is released into the bloodstream but does not trigger apoptotic signaling. Hence, the pathophysiological role of cl-CD95L remains unclear. We observed that skin-derived endothelial cells from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients expressed CD95L, and that after cleavage, cl-CD95L promoted T helper 17 (Th17) lymphocyte transmigration across the endothelial barrier at the expense of T regulatory cells. T cell migration relied on a direct interaction between the CD95 domain called calcium-inducing domain (CID) and the Src homology 3 domain of phospholipase Cγ1. Th17 cells stimulated with cl-CD95L produced sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), which promoted endothelial transmigration by activating the S1P receptor 3. We generated a cell-penetrating CID peptide that prevented Th17 cell transmigration and alleviated clinical symptoms in lupus mice. Therefore, neutralizing the CD95 non-apoptotic signaling pathway may be attractive therapeutic approach for SLE treatment

The cleaved FAS ligand activates the Na+/H+ exchanger NHE1 through Akt/ROCK1 to stimulate cell motility

    Get PDF
International audienceTransmembrane CD95L (Fas ligand) can be cleaved to release a promigratory soluble ligand, cl-CD95L, which can contribute to chronic inflammation and cancer cell dissemination. The motility signaling pathway elicited by cl-CD95L remains poorly defined. Here, we show that in the presence of cl-CD95L, CD95 activates the Akt and RhoA signaling pathways, which together orchestrate an allosteric activation of the Na+/H+ exchanger NHE1. Pharmacologic inhibition of Akt or ROCK1 independently blocks the cl-CD95L-induced migration. Confirming these pharmacologic data, disruption of the Akt and ROCK1 phosphorylation sites on NHE1 decreases cell migration in cells exposed to cl-CD95L. Together, these findings demonstrate that NHE1 is a novel molecular actor in the CD95 signaling pathway that drives the cl-CD95L-induced cell migration through both the Akt and RhoA signaling pathways
