On the finite-size effects in two segregated Bose-Einstein condensates restricted by a hard wall
The finite-size effects in two segregated Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs)
restricted by a hard wall is studied by means of the Gross-Pitaevskii equations
in the double-parabola approximation (DPA). Starting from the consistency
between the boundary conditions (BCs) imposed on condensates in confined
geometry and in the full space, we find all possible BCs together with the
corresponding condensate profiles and interface tensions. We discover two
finite-size effects: a) The ground state derived from the Neumann BC is stable
whereas the ground states derived from the Robin and Dirichlet BCs are
unstable. b) Thereby, there equally manifest two possible wetting phase
transitions originating from two unstable states. However, the one associated
with the Robin BC is more favourable because it corresponds to a smaller

Exponential stabilization of neural networks with various activation functions and mixed time-varying delays
This paper presents some results on the global exponential stabilization for neural networks with various activation functions and time-varying continuously distributed delays. Based on augmented time-varying Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, new delay-dependent conditions for the global exponential stabilization are obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is given to illustrate the feasibility of our results
Delay-dependent robust stability of stochastic delay systems with Markovian switching
In recent years, stability of hybrid stochastic delay systems, one of the important issues in the study of stochastic systems, has received considerable attention. However, the existing results do not deal with the structure of the diffusion but estimate its upper bound, which induces conservatism. This paper studies delay-dependent robust stability of hybrid stochastic delay systems. A delay-dependent criterion for robust exponential stability of hybrid stochastic delay systems is presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which exploits the structure of the diffusion. Numerical examples are given to verify the effectiveness and less conservativeness of the proposed method
Controllability and controller-observer design for a class of linear time-varying systems

The time variation consists of a scalar time-varying coefficient multiplying the state matrix of an otherwise time-invariant system. Under very weak assumptions of this coefficient, we show that the controllability can be assessed by an algebraic rank condition, Kalman canonical decomposition is possible, and we give a method for designing a linear state-feedback controller and Luenberger observer
Cryomilled Zinc Sulfide: A prophylactic for Staphylococcus aureus infected wounds
Bacterial pathogens that colonize wounds form biofilms, which protect the bacteria from the effect of host immune response and antibiotics. This study examined the effectiveness of newly synthesized zinc sulfide in inhibiting biofilm development by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) strains. Zinc sulfide (ZnS) was anaerobically biosynthesized to produce CompA, which was further processed by cryomilling to maximize the antibacterial properties to produce CompB. The effect of the two compounds on the S. aureus strain AH133 was compared using zone of inhibition assay. The compounds were formulated in a polyethylene glycol cream. We compared the effect of the two compounds on biofilm development by AH133 and two methicillin-resistant S. aureus clinical isolates using the in vitro model of wound infection. Zone of inhibition assay revealed that CompB is more effective than CompA. At 15 mg/application, the formulated cream of either compound inhibited biofilm development by AH133, which was confirmed using confocal laser scanning microscopy. At 20 mg/application, CompB inhibited biofilm development by the two methicillin-resistant S. aureus clinical isolates. To further validate the effectiveness of CompB, mice were treated using the murine model of wound infection. Colony forming cell assay and in vivo live imaging results strongly suggested the inhibition of S. aureus growth
Pion condensation in a dense neutrino gas
We argue that using an equilibrated gas of neutrinos it is possible to probe
the phase diagram of QCD for finite isospin and small baryon chemical
potentials. We discuss this region of the phase diagram in detail and
demonstrate that for large enough neutrino densities a Bose-Einstein condensate
of positively charged pions arises. Moreover, we show that for nonzero neutrino
density the degeneracy in the lifetimes and masses of the charged pions is

TextANIMAR: Text-based 3D Animal Fine-Grained Retrieval
3D object retrieval is an important yet challenging task, which has drawn
more and more attention in recent years. While existing approaches have made
strides in addressing this issue, they are often limited to restricted settings
such as image and sketch queries, which are often unfriendly interactions for
common users. In order to overcome these limitations, this paper presents a
novel SHREC challenge track focusing on text-based fine-grained retrieval of 3D
animal models. Unlike previous SHREC challenge tracks, the proposed task is
considerably more challenging, requiring participants to develop innovative
approaches to tackle the problem of text-based retrieval. Despite the increased
difficulty, we believe that this task has the potential to drive useful
applications in practice and facilitate more intuitive interactions with 3D
objects. Five groups participated in our competition, submitting a total of 114
runs. While the results obtained in our competition are satisfactory, we note
that the challenges presented by this task are far from being fully solved. As
such, we provide insights into potential areas for future research and
improvements. We believe that we can help push the boundaries of 3D object
retrieval and facilitate more user-friendly interactions via vision-language
