RECURRENT PREGNANCY LOSS AND ASSOCIATION OF MTHFR, PAI-1 AND ACE GENE POLYMORPHISMS IN WOMEN

    Get PDF
Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a significant clinical problem that may occur before the 20th week of gestation. There is no general consensus on how many consecutive abortions are considered as RPL. The goal of this study is to investigate the correlation between recurrent miscarriage (RM) and common polymorphisms in angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) and Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) genes among women experiencing RM. The literature existing in different population was searched and based on these finding we conclude that polymorphism in either one of these genes may increase chances of miscarriage. KEYWORDS: Polymorphism; Recurrent pregnancy; Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1

Artificial neural network predictive modelling of laser micro-grooving for commercial pure titanium (CP Ti) grade 2

Grooving is the process of making a narrow channel on a surface of flat or cylindrical workpiece. Groove is precisely made to parts used in automotive, biomedical, and electronics industries. In automotive industries, groove plays an important role especially on mechanical parts to precisely locate seal (oring) to prevent gas/oil leakage between dynamic mating parts. On the other hand, artificial neural network (ANN) has been widely used in developing predictive models of various manufacturing processes to save huge amount of production time and money for industries. Unfortunately, very limited research has been investigated on micro groove quality employing ANN predictive models. Therefore, this research work presents on how the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) predictive model has been established, optimised and utilised to predict the laser micro-grooving quality of commercial pure titanium grade 2 material. A 3KW CO2 laser cutting machine was employed considering laser power, gas pressure, cutting speed, depth of cut and focal distance as the design parameters for modelling. On the other hand, three significant responses namely groove depth, groove width and groove corner radius were investigated. Experimental results were fed to establish the ANN predictive model, which then its parameters were optimized to gain high level prediction accuracy. The predicted results of ANN model presented the mean absolute percentage error for groove depth, groove width and groove corner radius at about 7.29%, 10.93% and 11.96% respectively. The obtained predictive results were found quite promising with the average of mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) for quality predictions which falls between 10 to 15%, concluding the validity of the developed ANN predictive model

Effect of salinity on survival and growth of giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii (de Man)

Two independent experiments were performed to determine the effects of salinity on survival and growth of juvenile Macrobrachium rosenbergii, first one was to determine the median lethal salinity (MLS-5096 h) and second one was to assess the survival and growth at different sub-lethal salinities under field condition. In MLS-5096 h study 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 ppt salinities were used to initially find out the salinity tolerance range. Accordingly, a definitive salinity tolerance test was done in next phase to find out exact median lethal salinity by directly transferring the test species to 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 ppt salinity for 96 h. The median lethal salinity of M. rosenbergii was estimated at 24.6 ppt. In the second experiment, survival and growth performances of the prawn were recorded at different sub-lethal salinities viz., 5, 10, 15 and 20 ppt along with 0 ppt as control during 60 days culture period. The prawn exhibited lowest final average weight at 20 ppt salinity and significantly highest at 10 ppt salinity. Highest SGR and weight gain were obtained at 10 ppt followed by 5 ppt, 15 ppt and 0 ppt salinity but differences among treatment were not significant (P > 0.05). Survival rate of prawn varied between 91% (at 0 ppt) and 78% (at 20 ppt). The prawn grew and survived satisfactorily at 0–15 ppt salinities, implying that the species can be cultured commercially at wide salinity range. M. rosenbergii can be considered as an ideal species to promote, in view of current and future climate variables as more and more coastal areas of India are going to be vulnerable to saline water inundation

Not AvailableThe Eel-loach Pangio pangia has never been reported from East India in the River Ganges. In August, 2011, we collected a total of 39 individuals of this species during fish diversity explorations in River Ganges at Narora. This is the first record for Uttar Pradesh (North India). We present additional diagnostic features and description for this species previously known only from very old descriptions generally based on preserved specimens. Additionally, a molecular signature of the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) region between 5,8S and 28S ribosomal RNA genes was sequenced and submitted to NCBI (Accession No. JQ619873). The length-weight relationship showed allometric growth as b value of overall length-weight relation was 2,71 at p <0,00 which, ranged from 2,65 to 2,76. The substantial threats and issues regarding unawareness of this understudied fish species are highlighted to help sustaining fish biodiversity in India.Uttar Pradesh State Biodiversity Board (UPSBB), Lucknow; Government of Uttar Pradesh, Indi

Higgs Boson Studies at the Tevatron

We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for the standard model Higgs boson with mass in the range 90--200 GeV/c2/c^2 produced in the gluon-gluon fusion, WHWH, ZHZH, ttˉHt{\bar{t}}H, and vector boson fusion processes, and decaying in the HbbˉH\rightarrow b{\bar{b}}, HW+WH\rightarrow W^+W^-, HZZH\rightarrow ZZ, Hτ+τH\rightarrow\tau^+\tau^-, and HγγH\rightarrow \gamma\gamma modes. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 10 fb1^{-1} and were collected at the Fermilab Tevatron in ppˉp{\bar{p}} collisions at s=1.96\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. The searches are also interpreted in the context of fermiophobic and fourth generation models. We observe a significant excess of events in the mass range between 115 and 140 GeV/c2c^2. The local significance corresponds to 3.0 standard deviations at mH=125m_H=125 GeV/c2c^2, consistent with the mass of the Higgs boson observed at the LHC, and we expect a local significance of 1.9 standard deviations. We separately combine searches for HbbˉH \to b\bar{b}, HW+WH \to W^+W^-, Hτ+τH\rightarrow\tau^+\tau^-, and HγγH\rightarrow\gamma\gamma. The observed signal strengths in all channels are consistent with the presence of a standard model Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV/c2c^2
