    An outlook on self-assessment of homework assignments in higher mathematics education

    Abstract Background We discuss first experiences with a new variant of self-assessment in higher mathematics education. In our setting, the students of the course have to mark a part of their homework assignments themselves and they receive the corresponding credit without that any later changes are carried out by the teacher. In this way, we seek to correct the imbalance between student-centered learning arrangements and assessment concepts that keep the privilege to grade (or mark) completely with the teacher. Results We present results in the form of student feedback from a course on functional analysis for third- and fourth-year students. Moreover, we analyze marking results from two courses on real analysis. Here, we compare tasks marked by the teacher and tasks marked by the students. Conclusions Our experiments indicate that students can benefit from self-assessment tasks. The success depends, however, on many different factors. Promising for self-assessment seem to be small learning groups and tasks in which a priori weaker students can catch up with stronger students by increasing their practising time

    ECFS best practice guidelines: the 2018 revision

    Developments in managing CF continue to drive dramatic improvements in survival. As newborn screening rolls-out across Europe, CF centres are increasingly caring for cohorts of patients who have minimal lung disease on diagnosis. With the introduction of mutation-specific therapies and the prospect of truly personalised medicine, patients have the potential to enjoy good quality of life in adulthood with ever-increasing life expectancy. The landmark Standards of Care published in 2005 set out what high quality CF care is and how it can be delivered throughout Europe. This underwent a fundamental re-write in 2014, resulting in three documents; center framework, quality management and best practice guidelines. This document is a revision of the latter, updating standards for best practice in key aspects of CF care, in the context of a fast-moving and dynamic field. In continuing to give a broad overview of the standards expected for newborn screening, diagnosis, preventative treatment of lung disease, nutrition, complications, transplant/end of life care and psychological support, this consensus on best practice is expected to prove useful to clinical teams both in countries where CF care is developing and those with established CF centres.     Durante um período de 29 meses consecutivos foram realizados inventários de mamíferos em habitais de floresta nativa e exótica, além de área de campo, todos situados no Parque Florestal Estadual do Rio Doce, localizado na região ocidental da Mata Atlântica no estado de Minas Gerais. Foram registradas para o Parque um total de 60 espécies de mamíferos, distribuídas por 9 ordens, 24 famílias e 49 gêneros. De um esforço total de 64.300 armadilhas-noite, foram realizados 2.129 capturas de pequenos mamíferos não-voadores pertencentes a 20 espécies. Foram também capturadas 14 espécies de quirópteros, representando 12 gêneros e 4 famílias. Em 300 Km de censos diurnos repetidos nas áreas de mata nativa foram registradas 12 espécies de mamíferos de médio e grande porte, além de 14 outras observadas através de meios diversos. Estes dados reforçam a idéia que a mastofauna da Mata Atlântica é bastante diversa. O Parque Estadual Florestal do Rio Doce deve ser considerado como uma das principais áreas para a conservação de fauna desta região e sua proteção deve ser priorizada
