    Get PDF
The process of heating the billets of rolling mills from cast iron in gas heating ovens (both in covalent and casting floors) has clear requirements for temperature heating regimes. Compliance with the requirements of technology is possible with the use of automatic control devices. Programmable logic controllers are commonly used as a temperature control device. Correct operation of automation is possible because of a definite model of the heating process dynamics

Introduction. The paper deals with analyzing the Sarmatian burial complex investigated in 1990 in the barrow 1 of Kotlovina I cemetery located on the western shore of the lake Yalpug, 3 km from the village of the same name in Reni district of Odessa region. Materials. The mound was surrounded by a circular ditch with a single gap in the south. Similar ditches were recorded on the Sarmatian sites of the North-Western Black Sea region, as well as on the territory of Hungary and in the Don region. The burial was made with an offset from the geometric center of the mound, apparently, in order to avoid robbery. The main and only grave was done in a pit with an undercut. The buried man laid under the western wall of the funeral chamber in an elongated position on his back, his head to the north. The accompanying inventory is represented by a red clay pottery jug, which was covered by a handmade lid-bowl, as well as a large handmade pot. A large onehanded red clay pottery jug is of particular interest. Such vessels were widespread in the North Black Sea region, and their findings are known both in funeral complexes and in ancient settlements of the Roman time. The large size of the handmade lid-bowl, as well as the presence of traces of fuliginosity makes it possible to assume its dual purpose: as tableware during life and as a lid of the pottery vessel for the internment. The handmade pot is distinguished by an ornament in the form of impressions on the upper part of the body, forming a triangle. Conclusions. The analysis of the features of the funeral rite and the time of the inventorys existence make it possible to date the barrow to the 2nd – 3rd centuries AD. Grave 1 from barrow 1 of Kotlovina I cemetery clarifies the historical picture of the stay of Sarmatian tribes in the North-West Black Sea region, in particular, on the left bank of the Lower Danube

Ribonuclease binase apoptotic signature in leukemic Kasumi-1 cells

Cytotoxic exogenous RNases triggering apoptotic response in malignant cells have potential as anticancer drugs; surprisingly, detailed characterization of the RNase-induced apoptosis has not been conducted so far. Here we show that a cytotoxic RNase from Bacillus intermedius (binase) induces extrinsic and intrinsic apoptotic pathways in leukemic Kasumi-1 cells. The experiments were performed using TaqMan Array Human Apoptosis 96-well Plate for gene expression analysis, and flow cytometry. Cytometric studies demonstrated dissipation of the mitochondrial membrane potential, opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores, activation of caspases, increase of intracellular Ca 2+ and decrease of reactive oxygen species levels. We found that expression of 62 apoptotic genes is up-regulated, including 16 genes that are highly up-regulated, and only one gene was found to be down-regulated. The highest, 16 fold increase of the expression level was observed for TNF gene. Highly up-regulated genes also include the non-canonical NF-κB signaling pathway and inflammatory caspases 1,4. The obtained results suggest that binase induces evolutionary acquired cellular response to a microbial agent and triggers unusual apoptosis pathway. © 2013 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved

The widespread use of antibacterial drugs for the treatment of respiratory diseases causes antimicrobial resistance in opportunistic microorganisms, which leads to the chronic forms of respiratory diseases and contributes to the risk of repeated respiratory infections. One of the new therapeutic solutions is the use of multicomponent water-soluble plant extracts. The goal of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of the extracts of multicomponent herbal remedies versus the synthetic antiseptic for the treatment of the oropharyngeal and gut opportunistic microflora in children with chronic tonsillitis. In a retrospective study, we compared the effectiveness of the plant extract Tonzinal (experimental group, 100 patients) versus the Miramistin antiseptic agent (control group, 40 patients) for the treatment of chronic tonsillitis in children 5 to 15 years old using various treatment regimens. The oropharyngeal microbiocenosis was investigated by the bacteriological analysis of smears from the posterior wall of the pharynx and tonsils. Bacterial strains were isolated by inoculation on liquid agar media with the subsequent identification of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Candida spp., Moraxela cataralis, and Mycoplasma pneumonie according to the morphological and biochemical characteristics. For the bacteriological analysis of gut microbiocenosis, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., Candida spp., Klebsiella spp., Clostridiums spp., and Proteus spp. were isolated from the fecal filtrate and then identified by the same methods. The occurrence rate of microorganisms in patients of the experimental and control groups was compared before and after the 10-day course of therapy.A statistically significant decrease in the occurrence rate of Staphylococcus aureus (from 25% to 0%, p<0.01) and Candida spp. (from 18% to 0%, p<0.01) in the oropharynx of patients in the experimental group and from 20% to 7.5% and from 5% to 0% (p<0.05), respectively, in the control group was observed. A statistically significant decrease in the occurrence rate of Streptococcus pyogenes was only observed in the experimental group (from 30% to 0%, p<0.01). Treatment with Tonzinal or Miramistin did not lead to the statistically significant changes in the occurrence rate of opportunistic microorganisms in the gut microflora of the patients in both groups. Therefore, we have shown a higher antimicrobial efficacy of Tonzinal versus the Miramistin antiseptic for the treatment of the oropharyngeal opportunistic microorganisms in children with chronic tonsillitis.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Graft Dysfunction Early After Heart Transplantation: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

    Get PDF
Introduction: Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is a prevailing option for the management of severe early graft dysfunction. This systematic review and individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis aims to evaluate (1) mortality, (2) rates of major complications, (3) prognostic factors, and (4) the effect of different VA-ECMO strategies on outcomes in adult heart transplant (HT) recipients supported with VA-ECMO. Methods and Results: We conducted a systematic search and included studies of adults (≥18 years) who received VA-ECMO during their index hospitalization after HT and reported on mortality at any timepoint. We pooled data using random effects models. To identify prognostic factors, we analysed IPD using mixed effects logistic regression. We assessed the certainty in the evidence using the GRADE framework. We included 49 observational studies of 1477 patients who received VA-ECMO after HT, of which 15 studies provided IPD for 448 patients. There were no differences in mortality estimates between IPD and non-IPD studies. The short-term (30-day/in-hospital) mortality estimate was 33% (moderate certainty, 95% confidence interval [CI] 28%–39%) and 1-year mortality estimate 50% (moderate certainty, 95% CI 43%–57%). Recipient age (odds ratio 1.02, 95% CI 1.01–1.04) and prior sternotomy (OR 1.57, 95% CI 0.99–2.49) are associated with increased short-term mortality. There is low certainty evidence that early intraoperative cannulation and peripheral cannulation reduce the risk of short-term death. Conclusions: One-third of patients who receive VA-ECMO for early graft dysfunction do not survive 30 days or to hospital discharge, and one-half do not survive to 1 year after HT. Improving outcomes will require ongoing research focused on optimizing VA-ECMO strategies and care in the first year after HT

A summary of new predictive high frequency thermo-vibrational models in porous media

    Get PDF
In this chapter, we consider the effect of mechanical vibration on the onset of convection in porous media. The porous media is saturated either by a pure fluid or by a binary mixture. The importance of transport model on stability diagrams are presented and discussed. The stability threshold for the Darcy-Brinkman case in the RaTc-R and kc-R diagrams are presented (where RaTc, kc and R are the critical Rayleigh number, the critical wave number and the vibration parameters respectively). It is shown that there is a significant deviation from the Darcy model. In the thermo-solutal case with the Soret effect, the influence of vibration on the reduction of multi-cellular convection is emphasized. A new analytical relation for obtaining the threshold of mono-cellular convection is derived. This relation shows how the separation factor Ψ is related to controlling parameters of the problem, Ψ = f (R, ε*, Le) when the wave number k -> 0. The importance of vibrational parameter definition is highlighted and it is shown how, by using a proper definition for vibrational parameter, we may obtain compact relationship. It is also shown how this result may be used to increase components separation

Using data corresponding to 6.0/fb of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector, we present a cross section measurement of top-quark pair production with an additional radiated photon. The events are selected by looking for a lepton, a photon, significant transverse momentum imbalance, large total transverse energy, and three or more jets, with at least one identified as containing a b quark. The ttbar+photon sample requires the photon to have 10 GeV or more of transverse energy, and to be in the central region. Using an event selection optimized for the ttbar+photon candidate sample we measure the production cross section of, and the ratio of cross sections of the two samples. Control samples in the dilepton+photon and lepton+photon+\met, channels are constructed to aid in decay product identification and background measurements. We observe 30 ttbar+photon candidate events compared to the standard model expectation of 26.9 +/- 3.4 events. We measure the ttbar+photon cross section to be 0.18+0.08 pb, and the ratio of the cross section of ttbar+photon to ttbar to be 0.024 +/- 0.009. Assuming no ttbar+photon production, we observe a probability of 0.0015 of the background events alone producing 30 events or more, corresponding to 3.0 standard deviations.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure

Precision Top-Quark Mass Measurements at CDF

We present a precision measurement of the top-quark mass using the full sample of Tevatron s=1.96\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collisions collected by the CDF II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb1fb^{-1}. Using a sample of ttˉt\bar{t} candidate events decaying into the lepton+jets channel, we obtain distributions of the top-quark masses and the invariant mass of two jets from the WW boson decays from data. We then compare these distributions to templates derived from signal and background samples to extract the top-quark mass and the energy scale of the calorimeter jets with {\it in situ} calibration. The likelihood fit of the templates from signal and background events to the data yields the single most-precise measurement of the top-quark mass, \mtop = 172.85 \pm0.71(stat) 0.71 (stat) \pm0.85(syst)GeV/c2. 0.85 (syst) GeV/c^{2}.Comment: submitted to Phys.
