Four-quark stability
The physics of charm has become one of the best laboratories exposing the
limitations of the naive constituent quark model and also giving hints into a
more mature description of meson spectroscopy, beyond the simple
quark--antiquark configurations. In this talk we review some recent studies of
multiquark components in the charm sector and discuss in particular exotic and
non-exotic four-quark systems, both with pairwise and many-body forces.Comment: 6 pages. Article based on the presentations by J. Vijande and J.-M.

Glueball production in radiative J/psi, Upsilon decays
Using a bound-state model of weakly bound gluons for glueballs made of two
gluons and a natural generalization of the perturbative QCD formalism for
exclusive hadronic processes, we present results for glueball production in
radiative J/psi, Upsilon decays into several possible glueball states,
including L \not= 0 ones. We perform a detailed phenomenological analysis,
presenting results for the more favored experimental candidates and for decay
angular distributions.Comment: RevTeX4, 26 pages, 11 eps figure
Glueball Properties at Finite Temperature in SU(3) Anisotropic Lattice QCD
The thermal properties of the glueballs are studied using SU(3) anisotropic
lattice QCD with beta=6.25, the renormalized anisotropy xi=a_s/a_t=4 over the
lattice of the size 20^3\times N_t with N_t = 24, 26, 28, 30, 33, 34, 35, 36,
37, 38, 40, 43, 45, 50, 72 at the quenched level. To construct a suitable
operator on the lattice, we adopt the smearing method, and consider its
physical meaning in terms of the operator size. First, we construct the
temporal correlators G(t) for the 0^{++} and 2^{++} glueballs, using more than
5,000 gauge configurations at each temperature. We then measure the pole-mass
of the thermal glueballs from G(t). For the lowest 0^{++} glueball, we observe
a significant pole-mass reduction of about 300 MeV near T_c or m_G(T\simeq T_c)
\simeq 0.8 m_G(T\sim 0), while its size remains almost unchanged as rho(T)
\simeq 0.4fm. Finally, for completeness, as an attempt to take into account the
effect of thermal width Gamma(T) at finite temperature, we perform a more
general new analysis of G(t) based on its spectral representation. By adopting
the Breit-Wigner form for the spectral function rho(omega), we perform the
best-fit analysis as a straightforward extension to the standard pole-mass
analysis. The result indicates a significant broadening of the peak as Gamma(T)
\sim 300 MeV as well as rather modest reduction of the peak center of about 100
MeV near T_c for the lowest 0^{++} glueball. The temporal correlators of the
color-singlet modes corresponding to these glueballs above T_c are also
investigated.Comment: This is the revised version using more gauge configurations near T_c.

Precision measurements of the total and partial widths of the psi(2S) charmonium meson with a new complementary-scan technique in antiproton-proton annihilations
We present new precision measurements of the psi(2S) total and partial widths
from excitation curves obtained in antiproton-proton annihilations by Fermilab
experiment E835 at the Antiproton Accumulator in the year 2000. A new technique
of complementary scans was developed to study narrow resonances with
stochastically cooled antiproton beams. The technique relies on precise
revolution-frequency and orbit-length measurements, while making the analysis
of the excitation curve almost independent of machine lattice parameters. We
study the psi(2S) meson through the processes pbar p -> e+ e- and pbar p ->
J/psi + X -> e+ e- + X. We measure the width to be Gamma = 290 +- 25(sta) +-
4(sys) keV and the combination of partial widths Gamma_e+e- * Gamma_pbarp /
Gamma = 579 +- 38(sta) +- 36(sys) meV, which represent the most precise
measurements to date.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables. Final manuscript accepted for

Search for Exotic Mesons in pi- P Interactions at 18 GeV/c
The recent search for non mesons in interactions at
Brookhaven National Laboratory is summarized. Many final states such as , , , , , ,
which are favored decay modes of exotics, are under investigation.Comment: 9 pages, PostScript, Presented at the International School of Nuclear

Confirmation of a pi_1^0 Exotic Meson in the \eta \pi^0 System
The exclusive reaction , at 18 GeV has been studied with a partial wave analysis on a sample
of 23~492 events from BNL experiment E852. A mass-dependent fit
is consistent with a resonant hypothesis for the wave, thus providing
evidence for a neutral exotic meson with , a mass of MeV, and a width of MeV. New
interpretations of the meson exotics in neutral system observed in
E852 and Crystal Barrel experiments are discussed.Comment: p3, rewording the paragraph (at the bottom) about the phase

Exotic Meson Production in the System observed in the Reaction at 18 GeV/c
This letter reports results from the partial wave analysis of the
final state in collisions at 18GeV/c.
Strong evidence is observed for production of two mesons with exotic quantum
numbers of spin, parity and charge conjugation, in the decay
channel . The mass MeV/c^2 and
width MeV/c^2 of the first state are consistent
with the parameters of the previously observed . The second
resonance with mass MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2 agrees very well with predictions from theoretical
models. In addition, the presence of is confirmed with mass MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2
and a new state, , is observed with mass
MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2. The decay properties of
these last two states are consistent with flux tube model predictions for
hybrid mesons with non-exotic quantum numbers
Observation of Pseudoscalar and Axial Vector Resonances in pi- p -> K+ K- pi0 n at 18 GeV
A new measurement of the reaction pi- p -> K+ K- pi0 n has been made at a
beam energy of 18 GeV. A partial wave analysis of the K+ K- pi0 system shows
evidence for three pseudoscalar resonances, eta(1295), eta(1416), and
eta(1485), as well as two axial vectors, f1(1285), and f1(1420). Their observed
masses, widths and decay properties are reported. No signal was observed for
C(1480), an IG J{PC} = 1+ 1{--} state previously reported in phi pi0 decay.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figs, to be submitted to Phys. Let
Observation of a New J(PC)=1(+-) Isoscalar State in the Reaction Pi- Proton -> Omega Eta Neutron at 18 GeV/c
Results are presented on a partial wave analysis of the Omega Eta final state
produced in Pi- Proton interactions at 18 GeVc where Omega -> Pi+ Pi- Pi0, Pi0
-> 2 Gammas, and Eta -> 2 Gammas. We observe the previously unreported decay
mode Omega(1650) -> Omega Eta and a new 1(+-) meson state h1(1595) with a mass
M=1594(15)(+10)(-60) MeV/c^2 and a width Gamma=384(60)(+70)(-100) MeV/c^2. The
h1(1595) state exhibits resonant-like phase motion relative to the Omega(1650).Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters B Eight total pages including 11 figures
