Homotopy on spatial graphs and generalized Sato-Levine invariants
Edge-homotopy and vertex-homotopy are equivalence relations on spatial graphs
which are generalizations of Milnor's link-homotopy. Fleming and the author
introduced some edge (resp. vertex)-homotopy invariants of spatial graphs by
applying the Sato-Levine invariant for the constituent 2-component
algebraically split links. In this paper, we construct some new edge (resp.
vertex)-homotopy invariants of spatial graphs without any restriction of
linking numbers of the constituent 2-component links by applying the
generalized Sato-Levine invariant.Comment: 16 pages, 13 figure
Induced Charge-Density Oscillations at Metal Surfaces
Induced charge-density (ICD) oscillations at the Cu(111) surface caused by an
external impurity are studied within linear response theory. The calculation
takes into account such properties of the Cu(111) surface electronic structure
as an energy gap for three-dimensional (3D) bulk electrons and a
surface state that forms two-dimensional (2D) electron system. It is
demonstrated that the coexistence of these 2D and 3D electron systems has
profound impact on the ICD in the surface region. In the case of a static
impurity the characteristic ICD oscillations with the decay as a
function of lateral distance, , are established in both electron systems.
For the impurity with a periodically time-varying potential, the novel dominant
ICD oscillations which fall off like are predicted.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
Assembly of the Inner Perivitelline Layer, a Homo log of the Mammalian Zona Pellucida: An Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Study
The avian inner perivitelline layer (IPVL), a homologous structure to the mammalian zona pellucida, is deposited between the granulosa cells and the oocyte cell membrane during folliculogenesis. The glycoprotein meshwork of the IPVL forms a 3-dimensional matrix and possesses important functions in the fertilization process: it contributes to the binding of avian spermatozoa to the oocyte and induces acrosomal exocytosis. In contrast to the zona pellucida of mammals, the IPVL does not prevent the physiological polyspermy found in birds. Previous studies have shown that in the Japanese quail (Cotumix japonica) at least 5 glycoproteins are constituents of the IPVL (ZP1, ZP2, ZP3, ZP4, and ZPD). In this study, we investigated the spatiotennporal assembly pattern of the IPVL during folliculogenesis using immunohistochemical and ultrastructural methods. The obtained results clearly show that these glycoproteins are incorporated into the IPVL at distinct points during follicular development, supporting the hypothesis that ZP2 and ZP4 form a type of prematrix into which ZP1, ZP3, and ZPD are integrated at a later stage of development. Fermi surfaces and quasi-particle band dispersions of the iron pnictides superconductor KFe2As2 observed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy
We have performed an angle-resolved photoemission study of the iron pnictide
superconductor KFe2As2 with Tc 4 K. Most of the observed Fermi surfaces show
almost two-dimensional shapes, while one of the quasi-particle bands near the
Fermi level has a strong dispersion along the kz direction, consistent with the
result of a band-structure calculation. However, hole Fermi surfaces \alpha and
\zeta are smaller than those predicted by the calculation while other Fermi
surfaces are larger. These observations are consistent with the result of a de
Haas-van Alphen study and a theoretical prediction on inter-band scattering,

Curvature perturbation in multi-field inflation with non-minimal coupling
In this paper we discuss a multi-field model of inflation in which generally
all fields are non-minimally coupled to the Ricci scalar and have non-canonical
kinetic terms. The background evolution and first-order perturbations for the
model are evaluated in both the Jordan and Einstein frames, and the respective
curvature perturbations compared. We confirm that they are indeed not the same
- unlike in the single-field case - and also that the difference is a direct
consequence of the isocurvature perturbations inherent to multi-field models.
This result leads us to conclude that the notion of adiabaticity is not
invariant under conformal transformations. Using a two-field example we show
that even if in one frame the evolution is adiabatic, meaning that the
curvature perturbation is conserved on super-horizon scales, in general in the
other frame isocurvature perturbations continue to source the curvature
perturbation. We also find that it is possible to realise a particular model in
which curvature perturbations in both frames are conserved but with each being
of different magnitude. These examples highlight that the curvature
perturbation itself, despite being gauge-invariant, does not correspond
directly to an observable. The non-equivalence of the two curvature
perturbations would also be important when considering the addition of Standard

Backward-angle photoproduction of mesons on the proton at = 1.5--2.4 GeV
Differential cross sections and photon beam asymmetries for
photoproduction have been measured at = 1.5--2.4 GeV and at the
scattering angles, --1 cos --0.6. The
energy-dependent slope of differential cross sections for -channel
production has been determined. An enhancement at backward angles is found
above = 2.0 GeV. This is inferred to be due to the -channel
contribution and/or resonances. Photon beam asymmetries have been obtained for
the first time at backward angles. A strong angular dependence has been found
at 2.0 GeV, which may be due to the unknown high-mass resonances.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PL
What is embodiment? a psychometric approach
What is it like to have a body? The present study takes a psychometric approach to this question. We collected structured introspective reports of the rubber hand illusion, to systematically investigate the structure of bodily self-consciousness. Participants observed a rubber hand that was stroked either synchronously or asynchronously with their own hand and then made proprioceptive judgments of the location of their own hand and used Likert scales to rate their agreement or disagreement with 27 statements relating to their subjective experience of the illusion. Principal components analysis of this data revealed four major components of the experience across conditions, which we interpret as: embodiment of rubber hand, loss of own hand, movement, and affect. In the asynchronous condition, an additional fifth component, deafference, was found. Secondary analysis of the embodiment of runner hand component revealed three subcomponents in both conditions: ownership, location, and agency. The ownership and location components were independent significant predictors of proprioceptive biases induced by the illusion. These results suggest that psychometric tools may provide a rich method for studying the structure of conscious experience, and point the way towards an empirically rigorous phenomenology
On the solutions of the Schrodinger equation with some molecular potentials: wave function ansatz
Making an ansatz to the wave function, the exact solutions of the %
-dimensional radial Schrodinger equation with some molecular potentials like
pseudoharmonic and modified Kratzer potentials are obtained. The restriction on
the parameters of the given potential, and are also given,
where depends on a linear combination of the angular momentum quantum
number and the spatial dimensions and is a parameter in
the ansatz to the wave function. On inserting D=3, we find that the bound state
eigensolutions recover their standard analytical forms in literature.Comment: 14 page
Study of variable stars in the MOA data base: long-period red variables in the Large Magellanic Cloud
One hundred and forty six long-period red variable stars in the Large
Magellanic Cloud (LMC) from the three year MOA project database were analysed.
A careful periodic analysis was performed on these stars and a catalogue of
their magnitudes, colours, periods and amplitudes is presented. We convert our
blue and red magnitudes to band values using 19 oxygen-rich stars. A group
of red short-period stars separated from the Mira sequence has been found on a
(log P, K) diagram. They are located at the short period side of the Mira
sequence consistent with the work of Wood and Sebo (1996). There are two
interpretations for such stars; a difference in pulsation mode or a difference
in chemical composition. We investigated the properties of these stars together
with their colour, amplitude and periodicity. We conclude that they have small
amplitudes and less regular variability. They are likely to be higher mode
pulsators. A large scatter has been also found on the long period side of the
(log P, K) diagram. This is possibly a systematic spread given that the blue
band of our photometric system covers both standard B and V bands and affects

Supernova Bounds on Majoron-emitting decays of light neutrinos
Neutrino masses arising from the spontaneous violation of ungauged
lepton-number are accompanied by a physical Goldstone boson, generically called
Majoron. In the high-density supernova medium the effects of Majoron-emitting
neutrino decays are important even if they are suppressed in vacuo by small
neutrino masses and/or small off-diagonal couplings. We reconsider the
influence of these decays on the neutrino signal of supernovae in the light of
recent Super-Kamiokande data on solar and atmospheric neutrinos. We find that
majoron-neutrino coupling constants in the range 3\times 10^{-7}\lsim g\lsim
2\times 10^{-5} or g \gsim 3 \times 10^{-4} are excluded by the observation
of SN1987A. Then we discuss the potential of Superkamiokande and the Sudbury
Neutrino Observatory to detect majoron neutrino interactions in the case of a
future galactic supernova. We find that these experiments could probe majoron
neutrino interactions with improved sensitivity.Comment: 28 pages, 5 figure
