This document shows the results of the research conducted at the National Pedagogical University "Francisco Morazán" to determine the influence of Organizational Commitment on Organizational Learning. The sample consisted of 118 teachers from the Tegucigalpa campus. To measure variables, the questionnaire designed by Watkins and Marsick and the scale proposed by Allen and Meyer were used. The reliability of the instrument was determined by Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, obtaining 0.912 for the Organizational Learning variable, and 0.832 for Organizational Commitment one.The Pearson coefficient of determination was established to measure the effect of the independent variable on the dependent one, finding r = 0.718 and R2 of 0.516 to p =000<α: 0.05 values. The findings suggest that teachers committed to the institution contribute to the transformation processes and guide themselves to learn and improve their ability to do new things.

Bacteria producing L-asparaginase isolated from Peruvian saline environments

L-asparaginase (EC 3.5.1.1) hydrolyzes L-asparagine in L-aspartic acid and ammonia. Its efficiency is subject to its kinetics and specificity on the substrate, characteristics that vary from one source to another. Thus, microorganisms from saline environments constitute a phylogenetic and metabolically heterogeneous group for the search of new enzymes. Therefore, the objective of this study was the phenotypic and genotypic characterization of bacteria with L-asparaginase activity isolated from Maras, Pilluana and Chilca salterns. The 24 evaluated bacteria were classified as 38% Gram-negative bacilli and 54% positive; and 8% Gram-positive cocci. The majority grew in 5% salt water, pH 7.0 and 37 °C, all assimilated glucose. Of the 24 bacteria that produced L-asparaginase in solid medium, enzymatic activity was determined in submerged cultures by the Nessler method in 14 of them. The CH11, M62, M64, M68, and P19 strains identified as Bacillus sp., by partial sequencing of the 16S ribosomal gene, presented higher L-asparaginase activity and instability due to the presence of proteases. Saline environments bacteria are potential sources for the prospective production of L-asparaginase to use them as a therapeutic agent and in the food industry

Validation of an open source, remote web‐based eye‐tracking method (WebGazer) for research in early childhood

Measuring eye movements remotely via the participant's webcam promises to be an attractive methodological addition to in-person eye-tracking in the lab. However, there is a lack of systematic research comparing remote web-based eye-tracking with in-lab eye-tracking in young children. We report a multi-lab study that compared these two measures in an anticipatory looking task with toddlers using WebGazer.js and jsPsych. Results of our remotely tested sample of 18-27-month-old toddlers (N = 125) revealed that web-based eye-tracking successfully captured goal-based action predictions, although the proportion of the goal-directed anticipatory looking was lower compared to the in-lab sample (N = 70). As expected, attrition rate was substantially higher in the web-based (42%) than the in-lab sample (10%). Excluding trials based on visual inspection of the match of time-locked gaze coordinates and the participant's webcam video overlayed on the stimuli was an important preprocessing step to reduce noise in the data. We discuss the use of this remote web-based method in comparison with other current methodological innovations. Our study demonstrates that remote web-based eye-tracking can be a useful tool for testing toddlers, facilitating recruitment of larger and more diverse samples; a caveat to consider is the larger drop-out rate

The genomes of two key bumblebee species with primitive eusocial organization

Background: The shift from solitary to social behavior is one of the major evolutionary transitions. Primitively eusocial bumblebees are uniquely placed to illuminate the evolution of highly eusocial insect societies. Bumblebees are also invaluable natural and agricultural pollinators, and there is widespread concern over recent population declines in some species. High-quality genomic data will inform key aspects of bumblebee biology, including susceptibility to implicated population viability threats. Results: We report the high quality draft genome sequences of Bombus terrestris and Bombus impatiens, two ecologically dominant bumblebees and widely utilized study species. Comparing these new genomes to those of the highly eusocial honeybee Apis mellifera and other Hymenoptera, we identify deeply conserved similarities, as well as novelties key to the biology of these organisms. Some honeybee genome features thought to underpin advanced eusociality are also present in bumblebees, indicating an earlier evolution in the bee lineage. Xenobiotic detoxification and immune genes are similarly depauperate in bumblebees and honeybees, and multiple categories of genes linked to social organization, including development and behavior, show high conservation. Key differences identified include a bias in bumblebee chemoreception towards gustation from olfaction, and striking differences in microRNAs, potentially responsible for gene regulation underlying social and other traits. Conclusions: These two bumblebee genomes provide a foundation for post-genomic research on these key pollinators and insect societies. Overall, gene repertoires suggest that the route to advanced eusociality in bees was mediated by many small changes in many genes and processes, and not by notable expansion or depauperation

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is considered the fourth cause of death in Brazil, a worrying scenario considering that only 10% of those diagnosed receive adequate treatment. The present review study sought to evaluate new advances in the management of COPD exacerbations, documented through clinical and randomized studies. This is an integrative review research carried out using the PubMed database, which took into account the following inclusion criteria: clinical trials and controlled and randomized tests; articles published in the last year; that had full text available and that addressed the management of COPD exacerbations. Xiyanping has been found to have the ability to inhibit the inflammatory response throughout the body and provide a significant synergistic effect when combined with antibiotics, resulting in improved lung function in elderly people with acute exacerbation of COPD. Furthermore, a reduction in airway reactivity and an increase in secretion clearance were observed. Patients with COPD who have high baseline FENO levels and have not been previously treated may benefit from the use of salmeterol/fluticasone instead of tiotropium, indicating that high FENO levels may predict a favorable response to ICS/LABA treatment. Finally, acupuncture has been shown to be an effective and safe adjunctive approach in the treatment of acute exacerbations of COPD, with patients reporting significant improvements.

    Get PDF
