I examine the traveler’s geo-cultural transformations in Eduardo Mendoza’s Sin noticias de Gurb (1991) and El último trayecto de Horacio Dos (2002). They divulge the social adjustments of the main characters by analyzing personal and humanistic complexity derived from urbanistic alien exploration and spatial displacement. I argue that the unnamed alien scientist, Gurb and Horacio Dos unveil new psychological and social profiles by which peregrine journeys equate to a cross-cultural reconstruction of identity. They experience an emotional, cultural, and humanist enrichment that materializes the formation of «subject in transit».Examino las transformaciones geo-culturales del viajero en Sin noticias de Gurb (1991) y El último trayecto de Horacio Dos (2002) de Eduardo Mendoza.

This research focuses on the behavioral factors of professional practice that enable or hinders the implementation of ethical business models. The paper aims to measure the degree to which present the «proto-ethical competence», in 187 Spanish companies, by means of the evaluation of the attitude that make possible the professional achievement from models committed with the environment and the people. The present study shows that the set of competencies defined (responsibility, commitment, respect, consistency, effort and sincerity) behaves as a single block. The study also analyzed differences of ethical behavior among different groups according to variables such as gender, age, sector, hierarchical level and organizational size. Additionally, the paper provides a tool to measure reliably the presence of these skills in a business environment.

    Get PDF
Environmental quality (sustainability) and service quality are being argued as a way to do more competitive the mature sun and beach destination, that are living the competition of young destinations. This paper presents a methodologic proposal whose main aim is helping to the local stakeholders in these destination to modify their behaviour in order to take on their economic and environmental skills these issues of sustainability and quality. This methodology is interdisciplinary in two ways: On the one hand, it arranges the methodologies belonging to tourist studies with that of the local development studies. On the other hand, it arranges the methodologies belonging to the study workteam: geographers, anthropologists and economists

The use of multimedia tools improves scientific curiosity, provides support and reinforces the process of learning and evaluation at the classroom. It is very important to estimulate some student’s skills as their capacity to working in group, their ability of to share knowledgement as well as their participation through the process of the teaching-learning process. According to the above mentioned issues, a team of proffesors at the University of Granada are developping a free software based tool. The software, inspired in the popular game “Trivial PursuitTM” would help as a multimedia tool for the learning and evaluation of the student. The system allows the teacher to define team composition and the games to be played

Quantum ESPRESSO: a modular and open-source software project for quantum simulations of materials

    Get PDF
Quantum ESPRESSO is an integrated suite of computer codes for electronic-structure calculations and materials modeling, based on density-functional theory, plane waves, and pseudopotentials (norm-conserving, ultrasoft, and projector-augmented wave). Quantum ESPRESSO stands for "opEn Source Package for Research in Electronic Structure, Simulation, and Optimization". It is freely available to researchers around the world under the terms of the GNU General Public License. Quantum ESPRESSO builds upon newly-restructured electronic-structure codes that have been developed and tested by some of the original authors of novel electronic-structure algorithms and applied in the last twenty years by some of the leading materials modeling groups worldwide. Innovation and efficiency are still its main focus, with special attention paid to massively-parallel architectures, and a great effort being devoted to user friendliness. Quantum ESPRESSO is evolving towards a distribution of independent and inter-operable codes in the spirit of an open-source project, where researchers active in the field of electronic-structure calculations are encouraged to participate in the project by contributing their own codes or by implementing their own ideas into existing codes.Comment: 36 pages, 5 figures, resubmitted to J.Phys.: Condens. Vibrational and structural properties of P2O5P_2O_5 glass: Advances from a combined modeling approach

    Get PDF
We present experimental measurements and ab initio simulations of the crystalline and amorphous phases of P2O5P_2O_5. The calculated Raman, infrared, and vibrational density of states (VDOS) spectra are in excellent agreement with experimental measurements and contain the signatures of all the peculiar local structures of the amorphous phase, namely, bridging and nonbridging (double-bonded or terminal) oxygens and tetrahedral PO4PO_4 units associated with Q2Q^2, Q3Q^3, and Q4Q^4 species (QnQ^n denotes the various types of PO4PO_4 tetrahedra, with nn being the number of bridging oxygen atoms that connect the tetrahedra to the rest of the network). In order to reveal the internal structure of the vibrational spectrum, the characteristics of vibrational modes in different frequency ranges are investigated using a mode-projection approach at different symmetries based on the TdT_d symmetry group. In particular, the VDOS spectrum in the range from 600∼ 600 to 870870 cmcm^-1^1 is dominated by bending (F2F_2b_b) motions related to bridging oxygen and phosphorus (800∼ 800 cmcm^-1^1 band) atoms, while the high-frequency doublet zone (8701250∼ 870 – 1250 cmcm^-1^1 is associated mostly with the asymmetric ((F2F_2s_s) and symmetric (A1A_1) stretching modes, and most prominent peak around 14001400 cmcm^-1^1 (exp. 13801380 cmcm^-1^1) is mainly due to asymmetric stretching vibrations supported by double-bonded oxygen atoms. The lower-frequency range below 600600 cmcm^-1^1 is shown to arise from a mixture of bending (EE and (F2F_2b_b) and rotation (F1F_1) modes. The scissors bending (EE) and rotation (F1F_1) modes are well localized below 600600 cmcm^-1^1, whereas the (F2F_2b_b bending modes spread further into the range 600870∼ 600 – 870 cmcm^-1^1. The projections of the eigenmodes onto Q2Q^2, Q3Q^3, and Q4Q^4 species yield well-defined contributions at frequencies in striking correspondence with the positions of the Raman and infrared bands

Land- and water-based exercise intervention in women with fibromyalgia: the al-andalus physical activity randomised controlled trial

    Get PDF
Background The al-Andalus physical activity intervention study is a randomised control trial to investigate the effectiveness of a land- and water-based exercise intervention for reducing the overall impact of fibromyalgia (primary outcome), and for improving tenderness and pain-related measures, body composition, functional capacity, physical activity and sedentary behaviour, fatigue, sleep quality, health-related quality of life, and cognitive function (secondary outcomes) in women with fibromyalgia. Methods/Design One hundred eighty women with fibromyalgia (age range: 35-65 years) will be recruited from local associations of fibromyalgia patients in Andalucía (Southern Spain). Patients will be randomly assigned to a usual care (control) group (n = 60), a water-based exercise intervention group (n = 60) or a land-based exercise intervention group (n = 60). Participants in the usual care group will receive general physical activity guidelines and participants allocated in the intervention groups will attend three non-consecutive training sessions (60 min each) per week during 24 weeks. Both exercise interventions will consist of aerobic, muscular strength and flexibility exercises. We will also study the effect of a detraining period (i.e., 12 weeks with no exercise intervention) on the studied variables. Discussion Our study attempts to reduce the impact of fibromyalgia and improve patients' health status by implementing two types of exercise interventions. Results from this study will help to assess the efficacy of exercise interventions for the treatment of fibromyalgia. If the interventions would be effective, this study will provide low-cost and feasible alternatives for health professionals in the management of fibromyalgia. Results from the al-Andalus physical activity intervention will help to better understand the potential of regular physical activity for improving the well-being of women with fibromyalgia. This study was supported by the Consejeria de Turismo, Comercio y Deporte (CTCD-201000019242-TRA), the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (I + D + I DEP2010-15639, grants: BES-2009-013442, BES-2011-047133, RYC-2010-05957, RYC-2011-09011), the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation (20090635), the Spanish Ministry of Education (AP-2009-3173), Granada Research of Excelence Initiative on Biohealth (GREIB), Campus BioTic, University of Granada, Spain and European University of Madrid. YAM2 (Yet Another Multidimensional Model): an extension of UML

    No full text
This paper presents a multidimensional conceptual Object-Oriented model, its structures, integrity constraints and query operations. It has been developed as an extension of UML core metaclasses to facilitate its usage, as well as to avoid the introduction of completely new concepts. YAM2 allows the representation of several semantically related stars, as well as summarizability and identification constraints.Postprint (published version

Multi-star conceptual schemas for OLAP systems

    No full text
OLAP tools divide concepts based on whether they are used as analysis dimensions, or are the fact subject of analysis, which gives rise to star shape schemas. Operations are always provided to navigate inside such star schemas. However, the navigation among different stars use to be forgotten. This paper studies different kinds of conceptual relationships between stars (i.e. Derivability, Generalization/Specialization, Aggregation/Decomposition, or Temporal), and proposes a 3-level schemas architecture to ease the implementation and usage of multi-star schemas.Postprint (published version
