Vertical Motion of the Variable Infinitesimal Mass In the Circular Sitnikov Problem

    Get PDF
The circular case of Sitnikov problem is studied here when the infinitesimal body varies its mass according to Jeans law and it is moving along the z-axis which is perpendicular to the orbital plane of the two equal spherical primaries. The two primaries are moving in xy-plane on the same circular path. These two primaries are imposing the Newtonian forces on the third variable mass body but not influenced by it. Stability of equilibrium points is examined followed by the derived equations of motion. The time-series solutions of the equation of motion are performed by using the Lindstedt-Poincaré method which is used to remove the secular term. We have numerically performed the time-series which shows that variation parameters have great impact on it

Q-Map Application for Enrichment of a Mobile Directory Assistance Service

    Get PDF
The project described in this paper involves designing and developing a mobile map application, called the Qatar Map (Q-Map), which supports a telephone directory assistance service that runs over the terrestrial cellular network. The application uses WAP Push technology for extending the features available for a conventional directory assistance service. The Q-Map enables the network agent to respond to the subscriber with supplementary information when requesting a telephone number for a business. In addition to the telephone number, the information also includes a web address (URL) through which the subscriber can access a Google map covering the business’s area and any marketing content (e.g., advertising) uploaded earlier by that business. This service is also offered on-line through the Internet. In this regard, the subscriber can access the Q-Map website using a web browser, via either a PC, or a mobile handset

    A family of benzotriazole based coordination compounds, obtained in two steps and good yields from commercially available materials, formulated [CuII(L 1 )2(MeCN)2]·2(ClO4)·MeCN (1), [CuII(L 1 )(NO3)2]·MeCN (2), [ZnII(L 1 )2(H2O)2]·2(ClO4)·2MeCN (3), [CuII (L 1 )2Cl2]2 (4), [CuII 5(L 1 )2Cl10] (5), [CuII 2(L 1 )4Br2]·4MeCN·(CuII 2Br6) (6), [CuII(L 1 )2(MeCN)2]·2(BF4) (7), [CuII(L 1 )2(CF3SO3)2] (8), [ZnII(L 1 )2(MeCN)2]·2(CF3SO3) (9), [CuII 2(L 2 )4(H2O)2]·4(CF3SO3)·4Me2CO (10) and [CuII 2(L 3 )4(CF3SO3)2]·2(CF3SO3)·Me2CO (11) are reported. These air stable compounds were tested as homogeneous catalysts for the A3 coupling synthesis of propargyl amine derivatives from aldehyde, amine and alkyne under a non-inert atmosphere. Fine-tuning of the catalyst resulted in a one dimensional (1D) coordination polymer (CP) (8) with excellent catalytic activity in a wide range of substrates, avoiding any issues that would inhibit its performance

Solar Magnetic Field Studies Using the 12-Micron Emission Lines. IV. Observations of a Delta-Region Solar Flare

    Get PDF
We have recently developed the capability to make solar vector (Stokes IQUV) magnetograms using the infrared line of MgI at 12.32 microns. On 24 April 2001, we obtained a vector magnetic map of solar active region NOAA 9433, fortuitously just prior to the occurrence of an M2 flare. Examination of a sequence of SOHO/MDI magnetograms, and comparison with ground-based H-alpha images, shows that the flare was produced by the cancellation of newly emergent magnetic flux outside of the main sunspot. The very high Zeeman-sensitivity of the 12-micron data allowed us to measure field strengths on a spatial scale which was not directly resolvable. At the flare trigger site, opposite polarity fields of 2700 and 1000 Gauss occurred within a single 2 arc-sec resolution element, as revealed by two resolved Zeeman splittings in a single spectrum. Our results imply an extremely high horizontal field strength gradient (5 G/km) prior to the flare, significantly greater than seen in previous studies. We also find that the magnetic energy of the cancelling fields was more than sufficient to account for the flare's X-ray luminosity.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, accepted for Ap.

Extrasolar Planet Transits Observed at Kitt Peak National Observatory

We obtained J-, H- and JH-band photometry of known extrasolar planet transiting systems at the 2.1-m Kitt Peak National Observatory Telescope using the FLAMINGOS infrared camera between October 2008 and October 2011. From the derived lightcurves we have extracted the mid-transit times, transit depths and transit durations for these events. The precise mid-transit times obtained help improve the orbital periods and also constrain transit-time variations of the systems. For most cases the published system parameters successfully accounted for our observed lightcurves, but in some instances we derive improved planetary radii and orbital periods. We complemented our 2.1-m infrared observations using CCD z'-band and B-band photometry (plus two Hydrogen Alpha filter observations) obtained with the Kitt Peak Visitor's Center telescope, and with four H-band transits observed in October 2007 with the NSO's 1.6-m McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope. The principal highlights of our results are: 1) our ensemble of J-band planetary radii agree with optical radii, with the best-fit relation being: (Rp/R*)J = 0.0017 + 0.979 (Rp/R*)optical, 2) We observe star spot crossings during the transit of WASP-11/HAT-P-10, 3) we detect star spot crossings by HAT-P-11b (Kepler-3b), thus confirming that the magnetic evolution of the stellar active regions can be monitored even after the Kepler mission has ended, and 4) we confirm a grazing transit for HAT-P-27/WASP-40. In total we present 57 individual transits of 32 known exoplanet systems.Comment: 33 pages, 6 figures, accepted in Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacifi

Merkel cell polyomavirus: molecular insights into the most recently discovered human tumour virus.

    Get PDF
A fifth of worldwide cancer cases have an infectious origin, with viral infection being the foremost. One such cancer is Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC), a rare but aggressive skin malignancy. In 2008, Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) was discovered as the causative agent of MCC. It is found clonally integrated into the majority of MCC tumours, which require MCPyV oncoproteins to survive. Since its discovery, research has begun to reveal the molecular virology of MCPyV, as well as how it induces tumourigenesis. It is thought to be a common skin commensal, found at low levels in healthy individuals. Upon loss of immunosurveillance, MCPyV reactivates, and a heavy viral load is associated with MCC pathogenesis. Although MCPyV is in many ways similar to classical oncogenic polyomaviruses, such as SV40, subtle differences are beginning to emerge. These unique features highlight the singular position MCPyV has as the only human oncogenic polyomavirus, and open up new avenues for therapies against MCC
