Analysis of Pectin Levels in Banana Kepok (Musa paradisiaca) and Banana Raja (Musa sapientum)

    Get PDF
Banana is a type of fruit that is relative widely consumed by community, either directly consumed or processed into other foods such as fried bananas and chips, while the peelsare usually thrown as waste. Banana peel is one source of pectin. Pectin is a polymer of D-galactaconic acid linked by an α-1,4-glycosidic bond. Pectin compounds are widely used in pharmaceutical, food, and beverage industries. This study aimed to determine pectin levels in banana peel and banana raja. This study was done by extraction method using HCl, added with 96% ethanol to filtrate to precipitate the pectin, then dried to obtain dry pectin. The solvent used was 0.05 N HCl (pH 1.5) with extraction temperature 90 for 80 minutes. The results showed that the extraction of banana kepok peel produced 12.243% pectin, while the extraction of banana raja peel produced 6.383% pectin

    Get PDF
Ant nest plants have the greatest diversity in Papua, but due to the different location and climate between Papua and Sulawesi, especially Central Sulawesi, the composition and the active compound are different. Differences of plant species will give differences in the content and quality of simplicia from ant nest plants. This study aimed to determine the power of antioxidant in ant nest extract (Myrmecodia tuberosa Jeck) from Toli-Toli, Central Sulawesi. The sample of this study was taken at Labonu, Basidondo, and extracted by maceration method. The testing of antioxidant activity used DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrihydrazyl). Antioxidant activity of ant nest extract was measured using spectrophotometry with concentration 20, 40, 60 and 80 ppm. The results showed that ant nest plant extract was classified as a very powerful antioxidant with an IC50 value of 26.84 ppm

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of application of cooperative learning model STAD type (student-Teams-Achievement-Division) to high school in  Sigi. Type of the research was quasi experiment with non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The reseach population was all students of class X with sampilng technique was purposive sampilng method. Sample used for testing of students learning outcomes data used two-partiest-test statistic analysis. The result of data analysis obtained the average value(X1) experiment class was 66.17 with a standard deviation of 13.18. The results of hypothesis testing with two-parties t- test statistic were obtaied –ttable,+ttable ( tcount= 7.04 and ttable = 2.02) with signifance level α = 0.05 and degrees of freedom was 42, so H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an effect of the application of cooporative learning model STAD type to the student’s learning outcomes on atomic structure material at class X of SMAN 4 Sigi

Fabrication of Charcoal from Jackfruit’s Peel (Artocarpus heterophyllus) as Adsorbent on Dissolved Cadmium and Nickel

    Get PDF
Jackfruit’s peel contains lignocellulosic compounds that potential for fabrication of charcoal and useful for adsorbing heavy metals. Based on this, then it was conducted a study on the utilization of charcoal from jackfruit’s peel to be used as adsorbent on cadmium and nickel. The analysis process of this research was conducted by using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (SSA). The results showed that charcoal’s characteristics from jackfruit’s peel contained of 4.4% water, 9.3% ash, and biomass content that can be used as an absorbent was 86.3%. The optimum adsorption of charcoal from jackfruit’s peel for cadmium ion was contact time of 120 minutes, pH 7 and concentration of 40 mg/L with the percentages of penetration respectively were 84.65%, 99.10%, and 99.43%. On the other hand, for nickel was 150 minutes of contact time, pH 5, and concentration of 20 mg/L with percentage of penetration were 87.95%, 91.75%, and 75.15% respectively

Analysis of Iron (Fe) and Zinc (Zn) in Red Fruit (Pandanus conoideus De Vriese)

    Get PDF
Red fruit plant (Pandanus conoideus De Vriese) is very potential for health. This is because the plant contains many nutrients, especially minerals that are needed for the human body. Iron and zinc are two micro-minerals that contained in red fruit, but the content data about those are not widely known. The aim  of this research was to determine iron and zinc content by atomic absorption spectrophotometric of red fruit from  Mattirowaslle Village, South Pamona Sub-district, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi. The water content of the sample obtained was 52%, and the ash content was 13.8%. While the analysis of iron and zinc content at wavelength 248.30 nm (iron) and 213.90 nm (zinc) obtained were 1,339 mg/100g for iron and 0,397 mg/100g for zinc

    Get PDF
Adsorbent has been widely used in the purification of used cooking oil to improve their quality. This study aimed to determine the quality of cooking oil after adsorbing with tamarindus indica L. seeds. Parameters of the oil quality were color, free fatty acid, peroxide number, and moisture levels. The oil color was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometer, free fatty acid level using acid-base titration method, peroxide number level using iodometric titration method, and moisture level using gravimetric method. Concentration of adsorbent on the adsorption process varied by 1%, 3% and 5% with two types of cooking oil sample namely traditional cooking oil and brand X cooking oil. The results showed that the oil color became brighter by adding adsorbent. Free fatty acid, peroxide number, and moisture levels decreased by increasing the adsorbent concentration. The best result was obtained at 5% adsorbent concentration. Traditional cooking oil decreased in absorbance from 0.2955 to 0.0610, free fatty acid level decreased from 2.7300% to 0.8300%, peroxide number level decreased from 7 meq/kg to 2.4 meq/kg, and moisture level decreased from 1.5191% to 0.1495%. While for the cooking oil of brand X decreased in absorbance from 0.4355 to 0.1860, free fatty acid level decreased from 1.1900% to 0.6600%, peroxide number level decreased from 4 meq/kg to 1.3 meq/kg, and moisture level decreased from 1.4198% to 0.1197%

This study aims to determine the effect of mango seed extract concentration on the rate of corrosion of iron nails in corrosive medium of NaCl solution and seawater as comparison. The research begins with maceration of mango seeds followed by evaporation to produce the extract as an inhibitor with a variation of concentration 1 - 5%. The method of determining the corrosion rate was the weight loss method with soaking for 7 days. The results showed that the highest corrosion inhibition efficiency occurred at 3% concentration for immersion with corrosive medium of 3% NaCl and 2% concentration for soaking in sea water with efficiency respectively 15.34% and 10.63%. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the increasing concentration of mango seed extract resulted in the efficiency effect on corrosion of nails
