The phytochemicals were recovered through maceration in hydroethanolic solution. Catechin, quercetin, fisetin and gallic acid, which are known for their antioxidant power, were detected as the main compounds of the extract. Liposomes and phospholipid vesicles modified with glycerol or Montanov 82 (R) or a combination of both, were used as carriers for the extract. The vesicles were small (-183 nm), slightly polydispersed (PI >= 0.28), and highly negatively charged (--50 mV). The extract was loaded in high amounts in all vesicles (-100%) irrespective of their composition. The antioxidant activity of the extract, measured by using the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) test, was 84 +/- 1%, and slightly increased when loaded into the vesicles (-89%, P < 0.05). The grape pomace extract loaded vesicles were highly biocompatible and able to protect fibroblasts (3T3) from the oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide.Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR)PON R

Design and evaluation of countermeasures against fault injection attacks and power side-channel leakage exploration for AES block cipher

Differential Fault Analysis (DFA) and Power Analysis (PA) attacks, have become the main methods for exploiting the vulnerabilities of physical implementations of block ciphers, currently used in a multitude of applications, such as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). In order to minimize these types of vulnerabilities, several mechanisms have been proposed to detect fault attacks. However, these mechanisms can have a signi cant cost, not fully covering the implementations against fault attacks or not taking into account the leakage of the information exploitable by the power analysis attacks. In this paper, four different approaches are proposed with the aim of protecting the AES block cipher against DFA. The proposed solutions are based on Hamming code and parity bits as signature generators for the internal state of the AES cipher. These allow to detect DFA exploitable faults, from bit to byte level. The proposed solutions have been applied to a T-box based AES block cipher implemented on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Experimental results suggest a fault coverage of 98.5% and 99.99% with an area penalty of 9% and 36% respectively, for the parity bit signature generators and a fault coverage of 100% with an area penalty of 18% and 42% respectively when Hamming code signature generator is used. In addition, none of the proposed countermeasures impose a frequency degradation, in respect to the unprotected cipher. The proposed work goes further in the evaluation of the proposed DFA countermeasures by evaluating the impact of these structures in terms of power side-channel. The obtained results suggest that no extra information leakage is produced that can be exploited by PA. Overall, the proposed DFA countermeasures provide a high fault coverage protection with a low cost in terms of area and power consumption and no PA security degradation

The relationship between conflicts and power

In this paper the different definitions of conflict are studied and analyzed to obtain its common features. The globalization and the complex societies have different levels of intensity in their conflicts, and the range of situations produced is very wide. Therefore it is important to find the common elements and configure a methodological model help us to obtain an approach to a theory of conflicts. The relation between the power of parties and the origins and management of conflicts is proposed as a key, understanding the power as a human potential to make something, to get specific objectives and personal interests or to overcome resistances that determine the emergence of a conflict. Finally, the most usual methods to manage the conflicts are showed, and the difficulty to design a general Theory of Conflicts with universal amplitude for management, transformation and resolution of conflicts is analyzed

In this work a numerical analysis of meridional flow in axial turbomachinery has been performed applying the actuator disk theory. A numerical tool for non compressible flows was implemented based on the actuator disk theory, improving the results from the simple radial equilibrium analysis. Later on the model was also extended to the analysis for compressible flows under the actuator disk theory

For G is an element of Rmxn and g is an element of Rm, the minimization min parallel to G psi-g parallel to 2, with psi is an element of Rn, is known as the Tykhonov regularization. We transport the Tykhonov regularization to an infinite-dimensional setting, that is min parallel to T(h)-k parallel to, where T:H -> K is a continuous linear operator between Hilbert spaces H,K and h is an element of H,k is an element of K. In order to avoid an unbounded set of solutions for the Tykhonov regularization, we transform the infinite-dimensional Tykhonov regularization into a multiobjective optimization problem: min parallel to T(h)-k parallel to andmin parallel to h parallel to. We call it bounded Tykhonov regularization. A Pareto-optimal solution of the bounded Tykhonov regularization is found. Finally, the bounded Tykhonov regularization is modified to introduce the precise Tykhonov regularization: min parallel to T(h)-k parallel to with parallel to h parallel to=alpha. The precise Tykhonov regularization is also optimally solved. All of these mathematical solutions are optimal for the design of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) coils

This manuscript determines the set of Pareto optimal solutions of certain multiobjective-optimization problems involving continuous linear operators defined on Banach spaces and Hilbert spaces. These multioptimization problems typically arise in engineering. In order to accomplish our goals, we first characterize, in an abstract setting, the set of Pareto optimal solutions of any multiobjective optimization problem. We then provide sufficient topological conditions to ensure the existence of Pareto optimal solutions. Next, we determine the Pareto optimal solutions of convex max-min problems involving continuous linear operators defined on Banach spaces. We prove that the set of Pareto optimal solutions of a convex max-min of form max parallel to T(x)parallel to, min parallel to x parallel to coincides with the set of multiples of supporting vectors of T. Lastly, we apply this result to convex max-min problems in the Hilbert space setting, which also applies to convex max-min problems that arise in the design of truly optimal coils in engineering
