    La Imagen y la Narrativa como Herramientas para el Abordaje Psicosocial en Escenarios de Violencia. Departamentos Chocó, Casanare y Boyacá

    En el siguiente informe se da cumplimento a la actividad Paso 4. Abordaje de contextos desde los enfoques narrativos del Diplomado de Profundización Acompañamiento Psicosocial en Escenarios de Violencia, como etapa inicial el grupo colaborativo realizó un acercamiento conceptual a los enfoques narrativos a partir de la revisión de las fuentes bibliográficas y del análisis detallado de los contenidos propuestos, luego se exponen cuatro pasos fundamentales para la elaboración del análisis en el abordaje de los contextos psicosociales; con el objetivo de analizar y valorar eventos psicosociales traumáticos desde una perspectiva psicológica y la aplicación de técnicas de diagnóstico psicosocial en un escenario concreto, identificando subjetividades e intersubjetividades que emergen en escenarios permeados por la violencia; lo anterior, con el fin de generar un avance importante en la adquisición de conocimientos en nuestra formación profesional y desarrollo personal. En el primer paso, se realiza un análisis narrativo del caso VOCES, (2009). Relatos de violencia y esperanza en Colombia; del señor Alfredo Campo, a partir de preguntas orientadoras que permiten reconocer el contexto donde se desarrolla el relato, así como la narrativa y características que permiten realizar un análisis a través de la observación de la victima de forma integral. Para el segundo paso, se plantea una serie de preguntas que están orientadas hacia un acercamiento psicosocial ético y proactivo en la superación de las condiciones de victimización que permitan reconocer de forma reflexiva, circular y estratégica el contexto en que se desarrolla el caso, permitiendo profundizar de forma más detallada en las posibles acciones psicosociales que se pueden tener en cuenta y que contribuyen a mejorar la problemática del caso. En el tercer paso, se expone el análisis y presentación de estrategias de abordaje psicosocial para el caso tomado de AVRE (2005), de la Comunidad Cacarica, enfocadas en obtener una perspectiva amplia y profunda sobre el acompañamiento psicosocial en contextos de violencia, que busca contribuir a la transformación de los eventos traumáticos de los cuales fueron víctimas promoviendo la reconstrucción de la memoria histórica y el entramado simbólico de sus habitantes. Posteriormente, se realizó un informe reflexivo y analítico de la experiencia de foto voz teniendo en cuenta la importancia del contexto, subjetividades, la imagen y la narrativa como clave de memoria para extraer nuevos significados sociales y una reflexión psicosocial; Finalmente el grupo colaborativo de manera creativa, presenta un Blog digital en donde a manera de exposición, da a conocer los ejercicios de foto voz realizados por cada estudiante y las conclusiones más relevantes del proceso de análisis.In the next report, the activity Step 4 is completed. Approach of contexts from the narrative approaches of the Diploma of Deepening Psychosocial Accompaniment in Scenarios of Violence, as an initial stage, the collaborative group took a conceptual approach to narrative approaches based on a review of the bibliographic sources and a detailed analysis of the proposed contents, then four key steps for the development of the analysis in addressing psychosocial contexts are outlined; with the objective of analyzing and evaluating traumatic psychosocial events from a psychological perspective and applying psychosocial diagnostic techniques in a concrete scenario, identifying subjectivities and intersubjectities that emerge in scenarios. In the first step, a narrative analysis of the VOCES case is performed, (2009). Stories of violence and hope in Colombia; from Mr Alfredo Campo, based on guiding questions that allow us to recognize the context in which the story unfolds, as well as the narrative and characteristics that allow an analysis through the observation of the victim in an integral way. For the second step, a series of questions are posed that are oriented towards an ethical and proactive psychosocial approach in overcoming the conditions of victimization that allow to recognize in a reflexive way, the context in which the case is taking place, allowing a more detailed examination of the possible psychosocial actions that can be taken into account and that contribute In the third step, the analysis and presentation of strategies of psychosocial approach for the case taken from AVRE (2005), from the Cacarica Community, focused on obtaining a broad and profound perspective on psychosocial support in contexts of violence, that seeks to contribute to the transformation of the traumatic events of which they were victims by promoting the reconstruction of the historical memory and the symbolic network of its inhabitants. Subsequently, a reflective and analytical report of the photo voice experience was made, taking into account the importance of context, subjectivities, image and narrative as a memory key for extracting new social meanings and psychosocial reflection; Finally, the collaborative group presents a digital blog in which, as an exhibition, it presents the photo-voice exercises carried out by each student and the most relevant conclusions of the analysis process

    Starkeya nomas sp. nov., a prosthecate and budding bacterium isolated from an immunocompromized patient

    Strain HF14-78462T is an environmental bacterium found in clinical samples from an immunocompromized patient in 2014 at Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe (Valencia, Spain). Phenotypically, strain HF14-78462T cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore forming and non-motile small rods which formed mucous and whitish-translucent colonies when incubated at 20-36 °C. Phylogenetic analyses based on the 16S rRNA genes and the whole genomes of closest sequenced relatives confirmed that strain HF14-78462T is affiliated with the genus Starkeya. The strain was oxidase, catalase and urease positive; but indole, lysine decarboxylase, ornithine decarboxylase and DNase negative, did not produce H2S and was able to utilize a wide variety of carbon sources including acetamide, adonitol, amygdalin, l-arabinose, citric acid, glucose, mannitol and melibiose. Unlike Starkeya novella and Starkeya koreensis, strain HF14-78462T failed to grow in thiosulphate-oxidizing media and had a narrower temperature growth range. Its genome was characterized by a size of 4.83 Mbp and a C+G content of 67.75 mol%. Major fatty acids were C18:1 ω7c, cyclo C19 : 0 and C16 : 0, its polar acids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and an aminophospholipid; while the ubiquinones were Q9 (1.8 %) and Q10 (98.2 %). Digital DNA-DNA hybridization values were 41 and 41.4 against S. novella and S. koreensis, respectively, while average nucleotide identity values were around 84 %. Phenotypic, average nucleotide identity and phylogenomic comparative studies suggest that strain HF14-78462T is a new representative of the genus Starkeya and the name Starkeya nomas sp. nov. is proposed.     Spatial distribution and risk factors of Brucellosis in Iberian wild ungulates

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The role of wildlife as a brucellosis reservoir for humans and domestic livestock remains to be properly established. The aim of this work was to determine the aetiology, apparent prevalence, spatial distribution and risk factors for brucellosis transmission in several Iberian wild ungulates.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A multi-species indirect immunosorbent assay (iELISA) using <it>Brucella </it>S-LPS antigen was developed. In several regions having brucellosis in livestock, individual serum samples were taken between 1999 and 2009 from 2,579 wild bovids, 6,448 wild cervids and4,454 Eurasian wild boar (<it>Sus scrofa</it>), and tested to assess brucellosis apparent prevalence. Strains isolated from wild boar were characterized to identify the presence of markers shared with the strains isolated from domestic pigs.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Mean apparent prevalence below 0.5% was identified in chamois (<it>Rupicapra pyrenaica</it>), Iberian wild goat (<it>Capra pyrenaica</it>), and red deer (<it>Cervus elaphus</it>). Roe deer (<it>Capreolus capreolus</it>), fallow deer (<it>Dama dama</it>), mouflon (<it>Ovis aries</it>) and Barbary sheep (<it>Ammotragus lervia</it>) tested were seronegative. Only one red deer and one Iberian wild goat resulted positive in culture, isolating <it>B. abortus </it>biovar 1 and <it>B. melitensis </it>biovar 1, respectively. Apparent prevalence in wild boar ranged from 25% to 46% in the different regions studied, with the highest figures detected in South-Central Spain. The probability of wild boar being positive in the iELISA was also affected by age, age-by-sex interaction, sampling month, and the density of outdoor domestic pigs. A total of 104 bacterial isolates were obtained from wild boar, being all identified as <it>B. suis </it>biovar 2. DNA polymorphisms were similar to those found in domestic pigs.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>In conclusion, brucellosis in wild boar is widespread in the Iberian Peninsula, thus representing an important threat for domestic pigs. By contrast, wild ruminants were not identified as a significant brucellosis reservoir for livestock.</p

    Orientaciones específicas para la incorporación de tecnología en procesos de formación de profesores de Ciencias Naturales, Lenguaje y Comunicación, y Matemáticas en contextos de diversidad para el diseño de secuencias de enseñanza aprendizaje

    Las Tecnologías de la Información y de la Comunicación (TIC) se han transformado en un elemento de innovación dentro del conocimiento humano. Aplicadas directamente a la disciplina académica, las TIC se han ganado un espacio debido al creciente interés de este tipo de herramientas por parte de los docentes. No obstante, al día de hoy, en Latinoamérica el uso de TIC no es masivo. Su implementación aún está en una etapa inicial, y esto es debido a diversos factores. Algunos tienen que ver con el poco seguimiento que se realiza al implementar este tipo de tecnologías en las instituciones educativas; la limitada formación es una debilidad. En una escuela, el profesor que no ha sido preparado adecuadamente en el uso de TIC difícilmente logrará utilizarlas adecuadamente, y sus metodologías de aula serán, probablemente, idénticas a las que existían previas a su implementación. Existe una gran diferencia entre conocer una herramienta y dominarla; el dominio se logra, por ejemplo, al conocer las ventajas y desventajas que posee una herramienta determinada en conexión directa con los contenidos y las necesidades de los estudiantes. El dominio de las TIC otorga al docente de aula la posibilidad de tomar decisiones que tiendan a la efectividad del proceso educativo, puesto que las TIC no son solo un conjunto de herramientas, sino que, además, son orientables hacia un área u otra dependiendo de factores variables propios del proceso. Teniendo en cuenta el contexto anterior, este documento contiene algunas orientaciones para el uso del material desarrollado en el área de Ciencias Naturales, Lenguaje y Comunicación, y Matemáticas del Proyecto ALTER-NATIVA, el cual va dirigido a la formación de profesores que atienden poblaciones en contexto de diversidad con incorporación de las TIC. Es importante anotar que las actividades que se proponen son una posibilidad distinta de asumir la enseñanza de las ciencias naturales, lo cual a su vez implica reflexión y evaluación constante de la práctica de los docentes de esta área; que los compromete también con los desarrollos tecnológicos actuales, lo cual conlleva analizar y canalizar sus esfuerzos para diseñar y gestionar mecanismos que permitan la incorporación de las TIC en sus prácticas, pues se considera que estas posibilitan colaborar en la construcción de mundos posibles cercanos a los ideales de participación, igualdad y equidad (Alter -nativa , 2012). Estas orientaciones específicas tienen un doble propósito: primero, cobijan algunas recomendaciones, las cuales son una propuesta de uso para aprovechar al máximo el material que se propone en el estudio de las Ciencias Naturales, Lenguaje y Comunicación, y Matemáticas, para las poblaciones objeto de estudio. Para el desarrollo de las actividades planteadas es necesario que los estudiantes para profesor y profesores de escuelas, colegios y universidades de las áreas de Ciencias Naturales, Lenguaje y Comunicación, y Matemáticas, como posibles usuarios de este material, las perciban como un recurso que tiene un potencial y que, para su desarrollo, se hace necesario tener presente el diseño y estructura didáctica, los objetivos temáticos, la infraestructura, los recursos tecnológicos, las necesidades y características de las poblaciones con quien se vaya a utilizar, entre otros aspectos. Y segundo, estas orientaciones tienen como propósito ofrecer elementos para la formación de profesores de Ciencias Naturales, Lenguaje y Comunicación, y Matemáticas en su acción pedagógica y didáctica; se involucran las prácticas profesionales de diseño y elaboración de objetos didácticos y de los objetos virtuales de aprendizaje (OVA) como casos específicos de estos. Tomando como referencia lo anterior, se plantea como objetivos central de este texto el presentar algunas orientaciones que es necesario tener en cuenta a la hora incorporar TIC en la formación de profesores de Ciencias Naturales, Lenguaje y Comunicación, y Matemáticas. De igual forma, unos objetivos específicos serían los siguientes: a) Establecer unas orientaciones que sean consideradas a la hora de usar los recursos virtuales como los Objetos Virtuales de aprendizaje (OVA) que fueron diseñados como parte del proyecto ALTER-NATIVA en el área de ciencias naturales, lenguaje y matemáticas. b) Favorecer el aprendizaje de las ciencias naturales, lenguaje y matemáticas en las poblaciones objeto de estudio a través del uso de las TIC. c) Resaltar la importancia que tiene el uso de las TIC para concebir el aprendizaje como un sistema de interacción y no como transmisión de información solamente. d) Aportar a la reflexión y formación de docentes con una cultura tecnológica que les permita afrontar su labor pedagógica y didáctica en ámbitos de diversidad. e) Proporcionar unos elementos teóricos y de uso de las TIC que les admita la planeación, el diseño, desarrollo, uso y evaluación de objetos virtuales u OVA dentro de un ambiente virtual de aprendizaje

    Design and baseline characteristics of the finerenone in reducing cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in diabetic kidney disease trial

    Background: Among people with diabetes, those with kidney disease have exceptionally high rates of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality and progression of their underlying kidney disease. Finerenone is a novel, nonsteroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that has shown to reduce albuminuria in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) while revealing only a low risk of hyperkalemia. However, the effect of finerenone on CV and renal outcomes has not yet been investigated in long-term trials. Patients and Methods: The Finerenone in Reducing CV Mortality and Morbidity in Diabetic Kidney Disease (FIGARO-DKD) trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of finerenone compared to placebo at reducing clinically important CV and renal outcomes in T2D patients with CKD. FIGARO-DKD is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, event-driven trial running in 47 countries with an expected duration of approximately 6 years. FIGARO-DKD randomized 7,437 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate >= 25 mL/min/1.73 m(2) and albuminuria (urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio >= 30 to <= 5,000 mg/g). The study has at least 90% power to detect a 20% reduction in the risk of the primary outcome (overall two-sided significance level alpha = 0.05), the composite of time to first occurrence of CV death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or hospitalization for heart failure. Conclusions: FIGARO-DKD will determine whether an optimally treated cohort of T2D patients with CKD at high risk of CV and renal events will experience cardiorenal benefits with the addition of finerenone to their treatment regimen.     Mortality from gastrointestinal congenital anomalies at 264 hospitals in 74 low-income, middle-income, and high-income countries: a multicentre, international, prospective cohort study

    Summary Background Congenital anomalies are the fifth leading cause of mortality in children younger than 5 years globally. Many gastrointestinal congenital anomalies are fatal without timely access to neonatal surgical care, but few studies have been done on these conditions in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). We compared outcomes of the seven most common gastrointestinal congenital anomalies in low-income, middle-income, and high-income countries globally, and identified factors associated with mortality. Methods We did a multicentre, international prospective cohort study of patients younger than 16 years, presenting to hospital for the first time with oesophageal atresia, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, intestinal atresia, gastroschisis, exomphalos, anorectal malformation, and Hirschsprung’s disease. Recruitment was of consecutive patients for a minimum of 1 month between October, 2018, and April, 2019. We collected data on patient demographics, clinical status, interventions, and outcomes using the REDCap platform. Patients were followed up for 30 days after primary intervention, or 30 days after admission if they did not receive an intervention. The primary outcome was all-cause, in-hospital mortality for all conditions combined and each condition individually, stratified by country income status. We did a complete case analysis. Findings We included 3849 patients with 3975 study conditions (560 with oesophageal atresia, 448 with congenital diaphragmatic hernia, 681 with intestinal atresia, 453 with gastroschisis, 325 with exomphalos, 991 with anorectal malformation, and 517 with Hirschsprung’s disease) from 264 hospitals (89 in high-income countries, 166 in middleincome countries, and nine in low-income countries) in 74 countries. Of the 3849 patients, 2231 (58·0%) were male. Median gestational age at birth was 38 weeks (IQR 36–39) and median bodyweight at presentation was 2·8 kg (2·3–3·3). Mortality among all patients was 37 (39·8%) of 93 in low-income countries, 583 (20·4%) of 2860 in middle-income countries, and 50 (5·6%) of 896 in high-income countries (p<0·0001 between all country income groups). Gastroschisis had the greatest difference in mortality between country income strata (nine [90·0%] of ten in lowincome countries, 97 [31·9%] of 304 in middle-income countries, and two [1·4%] of 139 in high-income countries; p≤0·0001 between all country income groups). Factors significantly associated with higher mortality for all patients combined included country income status (low-income vs high-income countries, risk ratio 2·78 [95% CI 1·88–4·11], p<0·0001; middle-income vs high-income countries, 2·11 [1·59–2·79], p<0·0001), sepsis at presentation (1·20 [1·04–1·40], p=0·016), higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score at primary intervention (ASA 4–5 vs ASA 1–2, 1·82 [1·40–2·35], p<0·0001; ASA 3 vs ASA 1–2, 1·58, [1·30–1·92], p<0·0001]), surgical safety checklist not used (1·39 [1·02–1·90], p=0·035), and ventilation or parenteral nutrition unavailable when needed (ventilation 1·96, [1·41–2·71], p=0·0001; parenteral nutrition 1·35, [1·05–1·74], p=0·018). Administration of parenteral nutrition (0·61, [0·47–0·79], p=0·0002) and use of a peripherally inserted central catheter (0·65 [0·50–0·86], p=0·0024) or percutaneous central line (0·69 [0·48–1·00], p=0·049) were associated with lower mortality. Interpretation Unacceptable differences in mortality exist for gastrointestinal congenital anomalies between lowincome, middle-income, and high-income countries. Improving access to quality neonatal surgical care in LMICs will be vital to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 of ending preventable deaths in neonates and children younger than 5 years by 2030

    The minimal translation machinery: What we can learn from naturally and experimentally reduced genomes

    The current theoretical proposals of minimal genomes have not attempted to outline the essential machinery for proper translation in cells. Here, we present a proposal of a minimal translation machinery based on (1) a comparative analysis of bacterial genomes of insects’ endosymbionts using a machine learning classification algorithm, (2) the empiric genomic information obtained from Mycoplasma mycoides JCVI-syn3.0 the first minimal bacterial genome obtained by design and synthesis, and (3) a detailed functional analysis of the candidate genes based on essentiality according to the DEG database (Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis) and the literature. This proposed minimal translational machinery is composed by 142 genes which must be present in any synthetic prokaryotic cell designed for biotechnological purposes, 76.8% of which are shared with JCVI-syn3.0.     Towards minimal cells and beyond, the development and application of bioinformatic tools for large scale genomic data analysis of endosymbiotic bacteria of insects

    Over the last couple of decades, symbioses between insects and bacterial endosymbionts have been the focus of remarkable empirical studies. Models of symbiosis between specific bacterial lineages and their hosts have been described, but to our knowledge, no large-scale analyses have been done in order to begin deciphering the overall evolutionary path of the endosymbiosis phenomenon. Insects represent about 85% of animal diversity, and about 60% maintain symbiotic relationships with microbes, which mainly allow their hosts to live in niches otherwise unavailable to them by providing them with nutrients, protection, and even new forms of energy. Bacterial endosymbionts often live within specialized cells in insects called bacteriocytes; they generally have a base compositional bias towards A+T in their genomes, undergo genomic shrinkage, and have an accelerated sequence evolution, all of which are convergent attributes with organelles resembling their extended and combined evolutionary histories; so, in this work, we have proposed the term "symbionelles" for long-term obligate bacterial endosymbionts of insects. Most of these organisms have the smallest genomes found in nature. This makes them good models for studying minimal cells through genomic and metabolomic analyses, which is the subject of two chapters of this thesis. Recent changes in technology have made it necessary to look for new and creative ways to handle and process large amounts of data. With completely sequenced and annotated genomes from endosymbiotic bacteria of insects, databases are indispensable tools for organizing and easily accessing specific biological information. We constructed and published a composite database that includes the genomic data of symbiotic relationships between bacteria and insects, as well as all symbiotic relationships found in primary databases since the process for making this database was the same for both. Our database includes the confirmation of the symbiotic relationships (validated in literature), the associated publication (original journal article link where the association was first described), the organization and availability of the sequences of all genes, genomes, and orthologs of each prokaryotic symbiont, and the metabolic network of all organisms included in this repository as an m-DAG, a new reaction-based methodology applied on genomic data to create contracted metabolic diagrams by connecting directed acyclic graphs and creating metabolic building blocks as nodes of a metabolic network. By comparing these reaction-based metabolic networks to standard metabolite-based ones, we were able to look at the differences and similarities between organisms that have evolved in different ways, such as being more, or less involved in endosymbiosis

    MetNet: A two-level approach to reconstructing and comparing metabolic networks.

    Metabolic pathway comparison and interaction between different species can detect important information for drug engineering and medical science. In the literature, proposals for reconstructing and comparing metabolic networks present two main problems: network reconstruction requires usually human intervention to integrate information from different sources and, in metabolic comparison, the size of the networks leads to a challenging computational problem. We propose to automatically reconstruct a metabolic network on the basis of KEGG database information. Our proposal relies on a two-level representation of the huge metabolic network: the first level is graph-based and depicts pathways as nodes and relations between pathways as edges; the second level represents each metabolic pathway in terms of its reactions content. The two-level representation complies with the KEGG database, which decomposes the metabolism of all the different organisms into "reference" pathways in a standardised way. On the basis of this two-level representation, we introduce some similarity measures for both levels. They allow for both a local comparison, pathway by pathway, and a global comparison of the entire metabolism. We developed a tool, MetNet, that implements the proposed methodology. MetNet makes it possible to automatically reconstruct the metabolic network of two organisms selected in KEGG and to compare their two networks both quantitatively and visually. We validate our methodology by presenting some experiments performed with MetNet
