Variability and function of immune genes in the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis

Mytilus galloprovincialis is a bivalve mollusc of great commercial interest worldwide that lives anchored to the rocks and has a filtering way of life. Despite being constantly exposed to pathogens, no mass mortality events have been recorded in the natural environment (something that has occurred with other bivalve species such as oysters or clams). This immune resistance seems to reside in the great variability of immune molecules that the mussel genome encodes. Because of that, it has become interesting to study the immune response in infection situations, as well as the analysis of variability and function of some key peptides in the defense to diseases of these animals

Incorporando cenizas de bagazo de cebada y tallos de habas en las propiedades del concreto f`c=210 kg/cm2 para elementos estructurales, Huancayo 2022

se planteó como objetivo general, demostrar la influencia de la incorporación de las cenizas de bagazo de cebada y tallos de habas en las propiedades del concreto f’c=210 kg/cm2. donde la metodología es de tipo aplicada, enfoque cuantitativo, diseño cuasi experimental y el nivel explicativo. la población abarca 150 probetas para los ensayos y la muestra corresponde a 3 especímenes; el muestreo es no probabilístico, la técnica es la observación directa y los instrumentos son fichas de recolección de datos del laboratorio. a los 28 días, los resultados de la muestra patrón arrojaron valores de 2195.33 kg/m3 para el peso unitario patrón; 3.7” para el asentamiento, 256 kg/cm2 para la compresión y 36.07 kg/cm2 para la flexión; mientras que, al incorporar CBC y CTH en 5%,10% y 15% arrojo valores de 2159.67 kg/m3, 2091 kg/m3,1960.67 kg/m3 y 2162.67 kg/m3, 2101.67 kg/m3, 1995.67 kg/m3 respectivamente para el peso unitario; 2.9”, 2.5”, 2.0” y 2.9”, 2.3”, 1.8 “ correlacionalmente para el slump; 267 kg/cm2, 273 kg/cm2, 270 kg/cm2 y 263 kg/cm2, 273 kg/cm2, 268 kg/cm2 correspondientemente para la compresión y finalmente 39.84 kg/cm2, 42.59 kg/cm2, 40.69 kg/cm2 y 38.99 kg/cm2, 42.65 kg/cm2, 43.48 kg/cm2 para la flexión. en razón a ello, se concluyó que, la adición de CBC y CTH en los porcentajes mencionados, influyeron positivamente en las propiedades mecánicas y negativamente en las propiedades físicas del concreto

Rotura de cotilo en artroplastia total de cadera

Describimos dos casos de rotura de cotilos de expansión de prótesis de cadera tipo CLS de origen no traumático. Ambos casos sucedieron a los seis años de cirugía y no se apreció desgaste o rotura del polietileno en ninguno de ellos. En nuestra opinión la hipótesis más probable es que la falta de contacto entre la zona polar del cotilo y el fondo del acetábulo produzca una zona de inestabilidad en los segmentos de la prótesis y rotura por fatiga del material. Creemos que es obligado su recambio aunque el paciente no presente sintomatología actual, ya que la rotura del acetábulo conducirá a un aflojamiento y a una osteolisis secundaria.We describe two cases of breakage of expansion cups in a CLS uncemented total hip arthroplasty wihtout traumatic etiologic. Both cases occurred six years after the surgery and none had breakage or polyethylene wear. We postulate that the lack of contact between the polar area of the cup and the acetabulum produces a zone of instability in the segments of the prosthesis and increases the risk of fatigue of the material. In our opinion acetabular revision is mandatory in this situation, even in asymptomatic cases, because cup rupture leads to implant loosening with secondary short-team osteolysis

Immune Tolerance in Mytilus galloprovincialis Hemocytes After Repeated Contact With Vibrio splendidus

Mediterranean mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) are sessile filter feeders that live in close contact with numerous marine microorganisms. As is the case in all invertebrates, mussels lack an adaptive immune system, but they respond to pathogens, injuries or environmental stress in a very efficient manner. However, it is not known if they are able to modify their immune response when they reencounter the same pathogen. In this work, we studied the transcriptomic response of mussel hemocytes before and after two consecutive sublethal challenges with Vibrio splendidus. The first exposure significantly regulated genes related to inflammation, migration and response to bacteria. However, after the second exposure, the differentially expressed genes were related to the control and inhibition of ROS production and the resolution of the inflammatory response. Our results also show that the second injection with V. splendidus led to changes at the transcriptional (control of the expression of pro-inflammatory transcripts), cellular (shift in the hemocyte population distribution), and functional levels (inhibition of ROS production). These results suggest that a modified immune response after the second challenge allowed the mussels to tolerate rather than fight the infection, which minimized tissue damage
