    To assess the thermoregulation of neonates in the postnatal wards of the hospital: A prospective study

    Introduction: Hypothermia is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. Objective: To know the frequency of hypothermia in the postnatal wards and to know the relation of gestation and birth weight with the temperature of the neonates. Materials and Methods: Rectal temperature of 420 consecutive neonates shifted to postnatal wards of the hospital was measured. The gestation and birth weight of the neonates were recorded. The details were entered, and association of temperature to the birth weight and gestation was calculated. Results: About 70% of the neonates showed mild hypothermia. Gestation and weight of the neonates showed no significant association. Conclusion: The study shows the need to have more vigorous efforts to maintain the temperature in all the neonates in the postnatal wards

    The fluorescence shown by extracts of the heartwood of Pterocarpus marsupium is attributed to salts of the new compound 1, whose structure was elaborated using detailed spectroscopic/ spectrometric studies. The plant material also contains the nonfluorescent compounds 2 and 3. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined by experimental and theoretically calculated electronic CD spectra, while that of 3 was deduced from ECD comparison with reported results in the α-hydroxydihydrochalcone series

    Open-Circuit Voltage Models for Battery Management Systems: A Review

    A battery management system (BMS) plays a crucial role to ensure the safety, efficiency, and reliability of a rechargeable Li-ion battery pack. State of charge (SOC) estimation is an important operation within a BMS. Estimated SOC is required in several BMS operations, such as remaining power and mileage estimation, battery capacity estimation, charge termination, and cell balancing. The open-circuit voltage (OCV) look-up-based SOC estimation approach is widely used in battery management systems. For OCV lookup, the OCV–SOC characteristic is empirically measured and parameterized a priori. The literature shows numerous OCV–SOC models and approaches to characterize them and use them in SOC estimation. However, the selection of an OCV–SOC model must consider several factors: (i) Modeling errors due to approximations, age/temperature effects, and cell-to-cell variations; (ii) Likelihood and severity of errors when the OCV–SOC parameters are rounded; (iii) Computing system requirements to store and process OCV parameters; and (iv) The required computational complexity of real-time OCV lookup algorithms. This paper presents a review of existing OCV–SOC models and proposes a systematic approach to select a suitable OCV–SOC for implementation based on various constraints faced by a BMS designer in practical application

    A Comprehensive Analysis of Replicative Lifespan in 4,698 Single-Gene Deletion Strains Uncovers Conserved Mechanisms of Aging

    Many genes that affect replicative lifespan (RLS) in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae also affect aging in other organisms such as C.&nbsp;elegans and M.&nbsp;musculus. We performed a systematic analysis of yeast RLS in a set of 4,698 viable single-gene deletion strains. Multiple functional gene clusters were identified, and full genome-to-genome comparison demonstrated a significant conservation in longevity pathways between yeast and C.&nbsp;elegans. Among the mechanisms of aging identified, deletion of tRNA exporter LOS1 robustly extended lifespan. Dietary restriction (DR) and inhibition of mechanistic Target of Rapamycin (mTOR) exclude Los1 from the nucleus in a Rad53-dependent manner. Moreover, lifespan extension from deletion of LOS1 is nonadditive with DR or mTOR inhibition, and results in Gcn4 transcription factor activation. Thus, the DNA damage response and mTOR converge on Los1-mediated nuclear tRNA export to regulate Gcn4 activity and aging
