Most modern vehicles are equipped with systems that assist the driver by automating difficult and repetitive tasks, such as reducing the vehicle speed in a school zone. Some of these systems require an onboard computer capable of performing real-time processing of the road images captured by a camera. The goal of this project is to implement an optimized image processing library for the ARM® Cortex®-M7 architecture. This library includes the routines to perform image spatial filtering, subtraction, binarization, and extraction of the directional information along with the parameterized pattern recognition of a predefined template using the Generalized Hough Transform (GHT). These routines are written in the C programming language, leveraging GNU ARM C compiler optimizations to obtain maximum performance and minimum object size. The performance of the routines was benchmarked with an existing implementation for a different microcontroller, the Freescale® MPC5561. To prove the usability of this library in a real-time application, a Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) system was implemented. The results show that in average the execution time is 18% faster and the binary object size is 25% smaller than in the reference implementation, enabling the TSR application to process up to 24 fps. In conclusion, these results demonstrate that the image processing library implemented in this project is suitable for real-time applications.ITESO, A. When the performance comes into play: The influence of positive online consumer reviews on individuals' post-consumption responses
Although the research on online consumer reviews (OCRs) is broad, several important gaps still exist. This paper aims to bridge some of these gaps by studying the influence of positive OCRs (pOCRs) on post-consumption responses, namely attitude toward the firm and repurchase intentions. It differentiates between whether the performance level during consumption was high or low, that is, whether the product met the objectives set by the consumers. To this end, the paper addresses pOCRs in a twofold approach. First, it analyzes the effect of positive valence intensity, considering neutral-indifferent, moderately positive, and extremely positive OCRs. Second, it tests the influence of individuals'' perceived positivity of OCRs. The results show that the same pOCRs may have a positive or a negative influence on individuals'' post-consumption responses depending on the performance. Accordingly, the relationship between perceived positivity and post-consumption responses follows U-shaped functional forms
Dimensional hyper-reduction of nonlinear finite element models via empirical cubature
We present a general framework for the dimensional reduction, in terms of number of degrees of freedom as well as number of integration points (“hyper-reduction”), of nonlinear parameterized finite element (FE) models. The reduction process is divided into two sequential stages. The first stage consists in a common Galerkin projection onto a reduced-order space, as well as in the condensation of boundary conditions and external forces. For the second stage (reduction in number of integration points), we present a novel cubature scheme that efficiently determines optimal points and associated positive weights so that the error in integrating reduced internal forces is minimized. The distinguishing features of the proposed method are: (1) The minimization problem is posed in terms of orthogonal basis vector (obtained via a partitioned Singular Value Decomposition) rather that in terms of snapshots of the integrand. (2) The volume of the domain is exactly integrated. (3) The selection algorithm need not solve in all iterations a nonnegative least-squares problem to force the positiveness of the weights. Furthermore, we show that the proposed method converges to the absolute minimum (zero integration error) when the number of selected points is equal to the number of internal force modes included in the objective function. We illustrate this model reduction methodology by two nonlinear, structural examples (quasi-static bending and resonant vibration of elastoplastic composite plates). In both examples, the number of integration points is reduced three order of magnitudes (with respect to FE analyses) without significantly sacrificing accuracy.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
