Autotoxicity of chard and its allelopathic potentiality on germination and some metabolic activities associated with growth of wheat seedlings
In this study, the allelopathic effect of aqueous whole mature chard plant extract (Beta vulgaris L. var.Cicla) on wheat (Triticum vulgare L. var. Sides 1) and an associated weed (chard) was investigated.Plants used were sampled in 2006, and then plant extracts were obtained after they were ground and processed with distilled water. Twenty five of wheat grains and the same number of chard seeds ofuniform size and weight were placed in a mixture on sterile filter paper in 15 cm Petri-dishes. Treated Petri-dishes were each supplied with 20 ml extract of 0.25,1, 4, 8, and 12% (w/v) while untreated controlwas supplied with 20 ml of distilled water. After 10 days the germination percentage, vigour value, seedling growth criteria and some physiological processes were counted. The aqueous extract retardedthe germination of chard more effectively than that of wheat and the effect was concentration dependent. The lowest concentration stimulated the germination of both wheat and chard; on the otherhand, the germination was retarded under the application of concentrations above 1%. However, 1% concentration had a positive effect on wheat and negative on chard. HPLC analyses of the watersoluble extract of whole chard plant residue revealed the presence of eight phenolic aglycones that show the abundant of chichimec acid, (+) camphor, hydroxybenzoic, p-coumaric and vanillic acids aswell as trace amounts of coumarin and protocatechuic acids. This extract may be used as a bioherbicide to control the germination and growth of itself (autotoxicity)
Hadron Production in Neutrino-Nucleon Interactions at High Energies
The multi-particle production at high energy neutrino- nucleon collisions are
investigated through the analysis of the data of the experiment CERN-WA-025 at
neutrino energy less than 260GeV and the experiments FNAL-616 and FNAL-701 at
energy range 120-250 GeV. The general features of these experiments are used as
base to build a hypothetical model that views the reaction by a Feynman diagram
of two vertices. The first of which concerns the weak interaction between the
neutrino and the quark constituents of the nucleon. At the second vertex, a
strong color field is assumed to play the role of particle production, which
depend on the momentum transferred from the first vertex. The wave function of
the nucleon quarks are determined using the variation method and relevant
boundary conditions are applied to calculate the deep inelastic cross sections
of the virtual diagram.Comment: 6 pages PDF forma
Salvaging of severely ruptured living-related renal allograft secondary to acute antibody mediated rejection
AbstractINTRODUCTIONSpontaneous renal allograft rupture (RAR) is a serious and potentially life-threatening complication of kidney transplantation. Debate on the management of RAR has focused on graft nephrectomy versus salvaging in cases where: the allograft rupture site is surgically manageable; the bleeding can be controlled; and/or leaving the renal allograft in situ does not compromise patient survival.PRESENTATION OF CASEA 45-year-old, living-related, female, kidney allograft recipient experienced RAR on the fourth day post transplantation. Surgical exploration showed 12cm laceration along the convex border of the graft. Histologically the graft demonstrated mild acute kidney injury and linear deposition of C4d along the cortical peritubular capillaries; morphological features for violent humoral or cellular rejection were not identified. The graft was surgically salvaged with excellent clinical and biochemical improvement.DISCUSSIONObservations arising from this case are: (1) RAR caused by rejection is still encountered in clinical practice despite effective immunosuppressive management; (2) the severity of the histopathological features of rejection does not necessarily correlate with the extent of graft rupture; and (3) salvaging the graft should be attempted whenever possible as current immunosuppression and advances in surgical techniques may have an impact on long-term graft function and survival, differing from those previously published.CONCLUSIONWith modern immunosuppression therapy and proven surgical procedures, the efficacy of salvaged renal grafts and graft survival rates may improve substantially
Inclusive production of charged pions in p+C collisions at 158 GeV/c beam momentum
The production of charged pions in minimum bias p+C interactions is studied
using a sample of 377000 inelastic events obtained with the NA49 detector at
the CERN SPS at 158 GeV/c beam momentum. The data cover a phase space area
ranging from 0 to 1.8 GeV/c in transverse momentum and from -0.1 to 0.5 in
Feynman x. Inclusive invariant cross sections are given on a grid of 270 bins
per charge thus offering for the first time a dense coverage of the projectile
hemisphere and of the cross-over region into the target fragmentation zone.Comment: 31 pages, 30 figures, submitted to European Journal of Physic
Measurement of the top quark mass using the matrix element technique in dilepton final states
We present a measurement of the top quark mass in pp¯ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data were collected by the D0 experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb−1. The matrix element technique is applied to tt¯ events in the final state containing leptons (electrons or muons) with high transverse momenta and at least two jets. The calibration of the jet energy scale determined in the lepton+jets final state of tt¯ decays is applied to jet energies. This correction provides a substantial reduction in systematic uncertainties. We obtain a top quark mass of mt=173.93±1.84 GeV

We present the first measurements of the differential cross section d sigma/dp(T)(gamma) for the production of an isolated photon in association with at least two b-quark jets. The measurements consider photons with rapidities vertical bar y(gamma)vertical bar < 1.0 and transverse momenta 30 < p(T)(gamma) < 200 GeV. The b-quark jets are required to have p(T)(jet) > 15 GeVand vertical bar y(jet)vertical bar < 1.5. The ratio of differential production cross sections for gamma + 2 b-jets to gamma + b-jet as a function of p(T)(gamma) is also presented. The results are based on the proton-antiproton collision data at root s = 1.96 TeV collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measured cross sections and their ratios are compared to the next- to- leading order perturbative QCD calculations as well as predictions based on the k(T)- factorization approach and those from the sherpa and pythia Monte Carlo event generators
Measurements of single top quark production cross sections and |Vtb| in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present measurements of production cross sections of single top quarks in
\ppbar collisions at in a data sample corresponding
to an integrated luminosity of collected by the D0 detector
at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with an isolated electron
or muon, an imbalance in transverse energy, and two, three, or four jets, with
one or two of them containing a bottom hadron. We obtain an inclusive cross
section of \sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X, tqb+X) = 3.43\pm^{0.73}_{0.74}\;\rm
pb and use it to extract the CKM matrix element at
the 95% C.L. We also measure \sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X) =
0.68\pm^{0.38}_{0.35}\;\rm pb and \sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tqb+X) =
2.86\pm^{0.69}_{0.63}\;\rm pb when assuming, respectively, and
production rates as predicted by the standard model.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Search for Higgs bosons decaying to tautau pairs in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We present a search for the production of neutral Higgs bosons decaying into
tautau pairs in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The
data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1, were collected by
the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We set upper limits at the
95% C.L. on the product of production cross section and branching ratio for a
scalar resonance decaying into tautau pairs, and we then interpret these limits
as limits on the production of Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric
standard model (MSSM) and as constraints in the MSSM parameter space.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, submitted to PL
Measurement of three-jet differential cross sections d sigma-3jet / d M-3jet in p anti-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
We present the first measurement of the inclusive three-jet differential
cross section as a function of the invariant mass of the three jets with the
largest transverse momenta in an event in p anti-p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96
TeV. The measurement is made in different rapidity regions and for different
jet transverse momentum requirements and is based on a data set corresponding
to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb^{-1} collected with the D0 detector at
the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The results are used to test the three-jet
matrix elements in perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading order in
the strong coupling constant. The data allow discrimination between
parametrizations of the parton distribution functions of the proton.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Phys. Lett. B, corrected
