This is the program I created for a short violin recital I held that goes into a little bit of detail behind the stories and composers of the pieces I played. I found them to be really interesting and both are important pieces culturally and in the field of classical music. Growing up, I primarily studied classical music written by European composers and as I’ve gotten older, I\u27ve developed an interest in learning more about an ethnic background I was not deeply connected to when I was younger. This project was a way for me to learn about a cool part of Chinese history, while creating something special that I could share with other people

This study examines the system architecture of high power density 3U CubeSats capable of supporting high impulse missions. Under analysis is the ALBus CubeSat, a 3U High Power Density CubeSat at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The mission is a technology demonstration of a 100-Watt power management and distribution system aboard a small volume CubeSat and serves as evidence of CubeSats being able to provide high power to the subsystems necessary to support high impulse missions. This study mainly explores the thermal behavior of a CubeSat subjected to substantial waste heat due to extra power generation. It was found through a thermal vacuum test that, despite 100-Watts of waste heat being deposited into the system, the thermal limits of the electrical components were not exceeded and remained at steady-state operable temperatures. The thermal vacuum test proved the ALBus CubeSat was able to provide enough power without overheating to the point of detriment to its electrical components. A propulsion system is a fundamental necessity for any high impulse mission so a practical option for 3U CubeSats was explored to solidify the viability of such a spacecraft. The Miniature Xenon Ion Thruster, or MiXI, being researched and developed at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, is proven to be a desirable propulsion system for small satellites due to its high efficiency, low contamination, and precise thrust and impulse bits. It also is only 3 inches in diameter and can be operated on less than 100-Watts of power. This study is intended to help solidify the feasibility assessment of a high-power density CubeSat capable high-impulse missions

Doutoramento em Ciências da Educação, na especialidade de Teoria Curricular e AvaliaçãoThe purpose of this thesis is to promote entrepreneurship education through the introduction of entrepreneurial competences in the curriculum of sport sciences, in higher education. We gathered information from different sources, following a multiple method approach. The analysis of the state of the art on entrepreneurship education showed that: theoretical contributions have been increasing; theory-building and theory-testing are still rooted in exclusive paradigms thus restricting a more eclectic analysis of the knowledge; a very significant share of research on the topic has sought to evaluate its results; the body of knowledge on entrepreneurship education is not consistent. The analysis of entrepreneurial intentions, showed that there is a negative and significant value of subjective norms, the attitudes and the perceived behavioral control are the variables which have more influence, the variance explained is high, the model does not vary according to gender and professional experience. Then, the role of undergraduate curriculum on entrepreneurial paths of former students was analyzed. Three distinct profiles emerged: prevalence of undergraduate training, of continuing training, and of family and contact with professional context.

    Cross-curricular mathematics: a case study

    Get PDF
Educational and academic success of the various subjects is not yet a won battle. For that reason, organizations continue to (re)invent methods which may contribute to that success. More recently, it is strongly supported that the Curricula should be articulated: i) vertically, throughout all the school years, and ii) horizontally, among themselves in each different year. Research studies show, however, this measure is not being systematically implemented or even carried out in the best way. Therefore, a research was developed to explore how the process of inter-year and inter-cycle Cross Curricular Mathematics is interpreted, planned and experienced, as set out at a ministerial level, within a vertical grouping of schools. A qualitative and interpretative case study was chosen. The participants were 11 teachers, some with management positions. For data collection, a document analysis, observation and inquiry were included. The data show that teachers unanimously believed in the potentialities of collaborative work; and that, despite all efforts and measures introduced, there continues to be a difference between the scholar cycles. In fact, there are horizontal articulations regarding the several years of the same cycle but, in what concerns vertical articulation, there is a gap between the 1st and the others cycles

Mestrado em QuímicaThe development of innovative bio-based materials has gained considerable attention during the last decades because of the increasing society awareness regarding environmental issues and sustainable development. Cellulose is the most abundant natural polymer and therefore represents one of the most relevant raw materials from renewable resources. For example, the combination of natural polymers, as cellulose, with inorganic compounds with specific properties is a quite interesting and versatile strategy for the design of novel functional materials. In this context, the aim of this work was to prepare and characterize novel luminescent organic-inorganic hybrid films obtained by combination of cellulose acetate (prepared by almost complete acetylation bacterial cellulose nanofibrils) and a lanthanide ß-diketone complex (Tb(acac)3). All the obtained films were very homogeneous and transparent and displayed improved thermal and mechanical properties, in comparison with the undoped cellulose acetate films. The photoluminescence analysis confirmed the high ability of lanthanides to provide luminescence properties to different materials. Finally, the addition of partially acetylated bacterial cellulose nanofibrils to the films improved the mechanical properties without affecting the transparency and luminescence in a great extent.O desenvolvimento de materiais inovadores baseados em biomassa tem ganho uma atenção considerável durantes as últimas décadas devido à crescente consciencialização da sociedade em relação às questões ambientais e de desenvolvimento sustentável.

Quantification of Skeletal Muscle Synthesis Pathway Proteins in Wild Type and MMP-2 Knockout Mice After Functional Overload of the Plantaris Muscle

Skeletal muscle is the most abundant muscle in the human body. It is highly plastic, which allows the muscle to adapt to changing functional needs including exercise and injury. Previous studies have highlighted the role of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in skeletal muscle plasticity. The ECM is primarily composed of proteoglycans and collagens and can regenerate in response to injury, exercise, or disease. This regeneration of the ECM is partially facilitated by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes responsible for degrading extracellular proteins. The disruption of ECM synthesis and MMP activity has been shown to affect skeletal muscle regeneration. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of MMP-2 knockout (KO) on protein synthesis pathway in a functional overload (FO) model. Western blots were conducted to measure the synthesis pathway protein (IGF-1, Akt, mTOR, and S6K1) concentration in wild type and KO mice plantaris muscle
