School for Democracy. School Architecture and Second Republic in Bilbao

[Resumen] Con la constitución de la II República, el Estado entendió que la educación era fundamental para asentar la democracia, por lo que emprendió un programa de mejoras en la enseñanza que también influyeron en la forma de concebir la arquitectura escolar,según servicios de una mayor trascendencia social y espacios acordes con ideas pedagógicas más activas. En Bilbao, el resultado de esta política educativa se tradujoen la construcción de un grupo escolar municipal modelo que dio forma a una nueva manera de entender la escuela, según una arquitectura igualmente moderna que marcó las pautas que siguieron otras iniciativas posteriores[Abstract] With the constitution of II Spanish Republic the State understood that education was essential to lay down democracy, and consequently it undertook improvements in education that also influenced in the way school architecture was conceived according to services of a greater social importance and spaces related to more active pedagogical ideas. Th e result of this educative policy in Bilbao was the constructionof a municipal school group that gave form to a new way to understand school, accordingto an equally modern architecture, that pointed out the model followed by other initiatives

Denegación de la inscripción de la filiación determinada por la celebración de un contrato de gestación por sustitución. Comentario a la STS 835/2013, de 6 de febrero de 2014 (RJ 2014, 736).

No es admisible el reconocimiento de decisiones extranjeras sobre la filiación a favor de los padres intencionales, derivada de un contrato de gestación por sustitución, por ir en contra del orden público internacional español. Effects of making errors in learning a foreign language

Kornell, Hays, and Bjork ([2009]. Unsuccessful retrieval attempts enhance subsequent learning. Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 35, 989–998) showed that incorrect guesses do not necessarily harm and might even improve the retention of information on a subsequent test. We sought to replicate the finding using educationally relevant stimuli. In two experiments, our participants either translated sentences in a foreign language receiving immediate feedback (errorful condition), or copied and studied the correct translation (errorless condition). After this training phase, a final test with the same sentences showed that translating sentences wrongly during training did not lower the accuracy of the errorful as compared to the errorless condition. Overall there was evidence that errorful training produced superior learning of the meaning and grammar of the foreign language sentences. The results support the idea that search processes activate a greater network of related knowledge in the errorful than in the errorless condition.</p

On the Modular Specification of NFPs: A Case Study

The modular specification of non-functional properties of systems is a current challenge of Software Engineering, for which no clear solution exists. However, in the case of Domain-Specific Languages some successful proposals are starting to emerge, combining model-driven techniques with aspect-weaving mechanisms. In this paper we show one of these approaches in practice, and present the implementation we have developed to fully support it. We apply our approach for the specification and monitoring of non-functional properties using observers to a case study, illustrating how generic observers defining non-functional properties can be defined in an independent manner. Then, correspondences between these observers and the domain-specific model of the system can be established, and then weaved into a unified system specification using ATL model transformation. Such a unified specification can also be analyzed in a natural way to obtain the required non-functional properties of the system.This work is partially funded by Research Projects TIN2011-23795 and TIN2011-15497-E
