Intersectionality on the perception of health in two cross-national surveys (WVS and EVS)

    Get PDF
This article focuses on the health perceptions of people across social strata and nations using the combined dataset of the World Values Survey and the European Values Study (EVS/WVS). An intercategorical intersectional analysis model was developed to examine the social determinants underlying differences in health perceptions. Using logistic regression of the interactions between sex, age, level of educational attainment and income, we calculated the impact of these variables (main effects) and their interactions within the intersecting categories on health perceptions. The group with the best perception of their health includes men aged 16-49, with a high income and an upper-middle level of education. Comparative analysis has been carried out to identify differences in the influence of intersectional categories across countries. Of particular relevance is the number of Eastern European countries where the perception of people aged 50 and over with low income is very poor

Norm-attaining composition operators on Lipschitz spaces

    Get PDF
Every composition operator C_{\varphi} on the Lipschitz space Lip_0(X) attains its norm. This fact is essentially known and we give in this paper a sequential characterization of the extremal functions for the norm of C_{\varphi} on Lip_0(X). We also characterize the norm-attaining composition operators C_{\varphi} on the little Lipschitz space lip_0(X) which separates points uniformly and identify the extremal functions for the norm of C_{\varphi} on lip_0(X). We deduce that compact composition operators on lip_0(X) are norm-attaining whenever the sphere unit of lip_0(X) separates points uniformly. In particular, this condition is satisfi ed by spaces of little Lipschitz functions on Hölder compact metric spaces (X,d^{\alpha}) with 0<\alpha<1

Mathematical model to predict separation of C-phycocyanin from Spirulina sp. using an expanded-bed vortex flow reactor and its subsequent scaling-up

    Get PDF
This study presents a novel single-step method for the separation and purification of C-phycocyanin (CPC) extracted from dry Spirulina sp. using an expanded-bed vortex flow reactor (EB-VFR). The EB-VFR employed a DA405/EB polymethacrylate resin functionalized with tertiary amino groups, expanded by axial flow and stabilized by a laminar Taylor vortex generated by a central rotating cylinder. The CPC extract (2.3 g/L) was processed through the reactor (settled resin height: 20 cm) at rotation speeds of 0, 50, 100, and 150 rpm with an axial flow rate of 200 cm/h, followed by elution with a 500 mM phosphate buffer. At 100 rpm, the CPC yield reached 45%, while purity increased from 0.50 to 2.0 and the concentration to 3.3 g/L, demonstrating the reactor’s ability to achieve simultaneous concentration and purification. A mathematical model was developed to correlate operating parameters with dimensionless numbers (Taylor and Reynolds), providing quantitative predictions of CPC adsorption and elution performance. Experimental results obtained using radially and axially scaled-up EB-VFRs were in good agreement with the model predictions, confirming its applicability in process design and scale-up. These findings highlight the EB-VFR as an effective and scalable platform for the recovery of bioactive proteins from cyanobacteria, enabling efficient separation under dynamic hydrodynamic conditions. The approach offers significant potential for sustainable bioprocessing by integrating adsorption, washing, and elution into a single continuous operation with controllable hydrodynamic expansion and mixing behavior

    Get PDF
Resumo. Objective: To analyze the inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from a social management and educational sustainability perspective, understanding their provision of support as a structural indicator of institutional quality within contemporary educational systems. Theoretical Framework: The study is grounded in the literature on inclusive education, educational governance, social sustainability, and digital transformation. It integrates contributions from critical pedagogy, theories of educational justice, and international human rights frameworks. Method: The study adopts a theoretical-reflective design with an inductive-analytical approach based on a documentary literature review. Results and Discussion: The findings suggest that the inclusion of students with ASD reveals the degree of coherence between normative discourse and institutional practice, demonstrating that educational sustainability requires structural planning, organizational leadership, and inter-institutional coordination. Research Implications: The study introduces the concept of inclusive sustainability as a structural framework for evaluating educational systems, emphasizing how governance capacity and institutional resilience condition the effective inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Originality/Value: The article proposes conceptualizing the management of students with ASD not merely as a pedagogical matter, but as a structural indicator of institutional sustainability and the social responsibility of the educational system

EN: This book meticulously analyzes Cruiskeen Lawn, a popular column published in The Irish Times by Irish writer Myles na gCopaleen (real name Brian O'Nolan, though also known as Flann O'Brien), from 1940 to 1966. Cruiskeen Lawn was a comic literary column devoted to offering a sharp and incisive portrait of mid-twentieth century Ireland. Conscious of the historical significance of twenty-six years’ worth of political commentary by a renowned intellectual figure such as O’Nolan, this book examines the total of 4,032 newspaper articles that compose Cruiskeen Lawn with a twofold aim: firstly, to understand Myles na gCopaleen’s Cruiskeen Lawn as a work of political commentary and to view the column as a historical account of mid-twentieth century Ireland; and secondly, to determine O’Nolan’s own political philosophy through a close reading of his opinions on the political events discussed throughout the book.

    No full text

Bitcoin as an econometric tool for asset co-movement: therelation index

    Get PDF
This study proposes a methodological strategy composed of econometric techniques andtime series modelling to analyse the dynamic asynchrony between Bitcoin and a basket oftraditional sustainable financial assets and emerging markets over a 10-year period markedby major economic and financial changes. The centrepiece of this proposal is the Rela-tion Index that combines vector autoregression and detrended cross-correlation analysis tocapture linear and nonlinear dependencies, causality, and time-scale sensitive correlations. Thus, this research fills existing gaps in understanding cross-market interdependenciesby integrating cryptocurrencies, sustainability indices, and emerging economies into arigorous multivariate time series framework. Sustainability indices, emerging markets andBitcoin have shown a growing correlation since 2020, with both interest rates and Bitcoinhaving strong autoregressive components. The findings indicate that emerging market eq-uities have undergone a structural shift towards synchronisation with global risk assets, with a correlation index that frequently exceeds 0.6 in periods of systemic stress. Thisevolution highlights the decline in the advantages offered by diversification in developedand developing economies in a complex and interrelated financial environmen

    Get PDF
In response to sustained criticism regarding the limited functionality of grammar teaching, this study adopts a metacognitive approach to examine the perceived usefulness of grammar and the motivation associated with grammar learning in teacher education. The opinions of 355 Spanish pre-service primary school teachers were analysed using the ExCOGE questionnaire in order to examine: a) the perceived usefulness of grammar for the development of communicative skills and for the learning of additional languages, and b) the role of motivation as an explanatory factor and as a predictor of the intention to reproduce inherited models of grammar teaching. The findings indicate that participants attribute the greatest impact of grammar learning to improvements in written expression, followed by oral expression and the learning of other languages. Furthermore, those pre-service teachers who report having been motivated by grammar learning evaluate its usefulness more positively and, more significantly, express a stronger intention to reproduce the teaching model they experienced
