A new chapter has been included in human history, with the passage of our society to the postmodern era, which brought with it important and compelling changes in particular in the emergence of a specific type of non-traditional families, such as the homoparental or homoaffective with biological children and/or adopted (in some cases, co-adopted by both members of the couple, according to the law of the country concerned). Social phenomenon such that it causes strong waves of (re)pressure, prejudice, discrimination and "headaches" to the state, when you see pressed to regulate certain rights claimed by these same families (Portugal, for example) and society in generally not accepted with "good eyes", wincing before issues relating to the concept of "homosexuality" and gender as well, these can influence a good or bad development and education in children involved. This study therefore aims to study the homoparenthood a female homosexual couple with adopted children through a selective literature review (nationally scarce) and applying a semi-structured interview the couple

Characterisation of microbial attack on archaeological bone

As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
