This paper presents a refl ection about the theoretical and methodological approach on the construction of a history of the territory. This spatial point of view is characteristic of the disciplines related to the architecture and urban studies. Therefore, the territory is defi ned as a cultural object, but also as a way to understand spatial history, beyond the classic approach to rural and urban contexts in a separated way. As an example of this proposed approach, we show some examples on a graphic narrative on the construction of the territory. The selected case study is a central sector in the Province of Buenos Aires and its conformation along 19th century. This graphics relate three main variables of analysis: physical form, settlements and networks, in some interpretative readings, that allow us to observe the spatial development of the historical phenomena.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Embracing austerity: should budget stability be a constitutional rule to cope with the global economic and financial crisis?

National legal systems increasingly appear to be burdened with the necessity of coping. Situations of an “outdating” of the Law can arise when law-making tasks insist on being entirely joined with the nation-state viewpoint. These everyday situations can introduce matters whose legal solutions may not be found within systemic boundaires, rather, beyond them. To an extent, the Law, as it has been respectively defined through time, is loosing its effectiveness as a means of regulation in correlation with increasing globalization. This paper seeks to confine the unforeseen consequence of the current economic and financial crises by arguing that the constitutional recognition of the rule of budgetary stability can precisely serve as a solution to exit the current crisis. Whether or not this rule is adequate, necessary, feasible, and/or acceptable to a modern Democracy is subject to current legal and political, academic debate

Plastisol Gelation and Fusion Rheological Aspects

    Get PDF
This study deals with the rheological aspects of poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) plastisol gelation and fusion processes in foamable formulations. Here, such processes are simulated by temperature-programmed experiment (5 K min−1) in which complex viscosity components are continuously recorded. Nineteen samples based on a PVC-VAC (vinyl acetate 95/5) copolymer with 100 phr plasticizer have been studied, differing only by the plasticizer structure. The sample shear modulus increases continuously with temperature until a maximum, long time after the end of the dissolution process as characterized by DSC. The temperature at the maximum varies between 345 and 428 K with a clear tendency to increase almost linearly with the plasticizer molar mass, and to vary with the flexibility and the degree of branching of the plasticizer molecule. The shear modulus increase is interpreted in terms of progressive “welding” of swelled particles by polymer chain reptation. The plasticizer nature would mainly affect the friction parameter of chain diffusio

Los frutos del proyecto artístico luliano en el Portugal medieval

    Get PDF
The main aim of this work is to present the most relevant news about the history of Lullism (the influence of Ramon Llull’s work and thoughts) in Portugal during the 14th and 15th centuries. Among other considerations on Lullian Portuguese studies (mainly the Livro da Corte Enperial and Boosco deleitoso), the textual links between D. Duarte’s Leal Conselheiro and the Introductorium magnae artis generalis -one of the apocryphal Lullian texts- are identified. At the same time, the identification of the so-called «reymonistas» (in D. Duarte’s book) with the members of the Congregation of Secular Cannons of Saint John Evangelist or lóios is explained

The aim of this paper is to present an overview on the Portuguese-influenced heritage in the African Portuguese-spoken countries (Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea-Bissau, Angola and Mozambique). Special attention will be paid to religious (churches, chapels and convents) and military (fortresses and forts) buildings. Chronologically, the paper will cover from the first settlements at the end of XVth century to the end of XVIIth century

Is there a place for dexmedetomidine in equine anaesthesia and analgesia? : a systematic review (2005-2017)

The objective of this review was to perform a literature compilation of all the equine publications that used dexmedetomidine as the first article on this topic was published, in 2005. We also aimed to answer the question whether the use of dexmedetomidine can currently be justified. For that, we compiled information from databases, such as PubMed, Google Scholar and Web of Science and the proceedings of the last veterinary anaesthesiology meetings. Dexmedetomidine is an attractive drug to be used in horses, mainly due to its pharmacokinetic profile and pharmacodynamics that favour its use as intravenous constant rate infusion (CRI). Nowadays, its clinical use is popular for sedation in prolonged standing procedures and during partial intravenous anaesthesia (PIVA) and total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA). However, legal requirements for its use should be taken into account
