This is an analytical-logical research done by content analysis method. the paper critiques reductionist approaches to this book by showing that Ibn Ashour’s educational reforms are part and parcel of his larger reformist project delineated in Maqasid Al-Sharia Al-Islamiah (The Objectives of Islamic Sharia) and Usul Al-Nitham Al-Ijtimai fi Al-Islam (The Foundations of the Social System in Islam). This paper claims that Ibn Ashour had pioneering reformist views in education relative to the era he had inhabited. His family connections made the political environment conducive to his reforms, and he made use of the varied and multifarious knowledge he had accumulated, which made him more than a mere individual and more of a powerful force in the Tunisian and Arab-Islamic reformist process.

This study has investigated the effect of replacing limestone with different percentages of limestone powder (5%, 10% and 15%) using the T KS method on the compressive strength of the mortar. The results have shown that the compressive strength of the mortar has decreased with curing time (at day 14) and with an increase in the proportion of limestone powder, contrary to what has been expected. This decrease in strength was attributed to the occurrence of delayed ettringite formation (DEF) in the mortar samples. DEF is a phenomenon that occurs in concrete and mortar when the conditions for ettringite formation are not optimal, which leads to the formation of a more expansive form of ettringite at a later stage. The presence of limestone aggregates in the mortar mix has been shown to contribute to the formation of DEF, resulting in the lower compressive strength values observed. This effect becomes greater the smaller the size of the limestone granules. The results suggest that caution should be exercised when using limestone powder as a replacement in mortar mixes, as it may lead to DEF and reduced compressive strength

A rare case of seven siblings with Waardenburg syndrome: a case report

Abstract Background Waardenburg syndrome is a group of rare genetic conditions. It is determined by the absence of melanocytes from the eyes, hair, and skin. There are four types of Waardenburg syndrome with specific criteria to diagnosis the different types. The main clinical manifestations are facial abnormalities, pigmentary defects, and hearing loss with no specific predilection with regard to sex or race. Case presentation An Arabic Syrian family, consisting of 14 siblings from third-degree relative parents with a low income, living in the Syrian countryside, presented to our institute with their 8-year-old son who had congenital hearing loss that had led to his inability to speak. He has six siblings who had congenital sensory hearing loss proven by auditory brainstem response tests at an early age. An otoacoustic emissions test and a pure-tone audiogram were performed for our patient and showed sensory hearing loss. An interesting feature in the last seven siblings was that some of them have heterochromia iris, and the others have segmental heterochromia in their iris. An ophthalmology consultation was performed to detect any other features or disorders. A dermatology consultation, laboratory tests, and chest X-ray were also performed for all the siblings and revealed no abnormalities. There was no history for musculoskeletal system or intestinal disorders. Based on the Waardenburg criteria, our patient and his six siblings all have Waarenburg syndrome. Conclusions Although the inheritance of Waardenburg syndrome is autosomal dominant, de novo cases of this rare syndrome are mentioned in the medical literature. We report a unique case of seven siblings with Waardenburg syndrome. This case report shows the crucial role of consanguineous parents on this syndrome, and indicates that the number of children with this rare syndrome is increasing

Multifaceted Targeting of the Chromatin Mediates Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Effects on Gene Expression in the Gonadotrope

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulates the expression of multiple genes in the pituitary gonadotropes, most notably to induce synthesis of the gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), but also to ensure the appropriate functioning of these cells at the center of the mammalian reproductive endocrine axis. Aside from the activation of gene-specific transcription factors, GnRH stimulates through its membrane-bound receptor, alterations in the chromatin that facilitate transcription of its target genes. These include changes in the histone and DNA modifications, nucleosome positioning, and chromatin packaging at the regulatory regions of each gene. The requirements for each of these events vary according to the DNA sequence which determines the basal chromatin packaging at the regulatory regions. Despite considerable progress in this field in recent years, we are only beginning to understand some of the complexities involved in the role and regulation of this chromatin structure, including new modifications, extensive cross talk, histone variants, and the actions of distal enhancers and non-coding RNAs. This short review aims to integrate the latest findings on GnRH-induced alterations in the chromatin of its target genes, which indicate multiple and diverse actions. Understanding these processes is illuminating not only in the context of the activation of these hormones during the reproductive life span but may also reveal how aberrant epigenetic regulation of these genes leads to sub-fertility

Developing a pro-angiogenic placenta derived amniochorionic scaffold with two exposed basement membranes as substrates for cultivating endothelial cells

Decellularized and de-epithelialized placenta membranes have widely been used as scaffolds and grafts in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Exceptional pro-angiogenic and biomechanical properties and low immunogenicity have made the amniochorionic membrane a unique substrate which provides an enriched niche for cellular growth. Herein, an optimized combination of enzymatic solutions (based on streptokinase) with mechanical scrapping is used to remove the amniotic epithelium and chorion trophoblastic layer, which resulted in exposing the basement membranes of both sides without their separation and subsequent damages to the in-between spongy layer. Biomechanical and biodegradability properties, endothelial proliferation capacity, and in vivo pro-angiogenic capabilities of the substrate were also evaluated. Histological staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining for collagen IV, and scanning electron microscope demonstrated that the underlying amniotic and chorionic basement membranes remained intact while the epithelial and trophoblastic layers were entirely removed without considerable damage to basement membranes. The biomechanical evaluation showed that the scaffold is suturable. Proliferation assay, real-time polymerase chain reaction for endothelial adhesion molecules, and IHC demonstrated that both side basement membranes could support the growth of endothelial cells without altering endothelial characteristics. The dorsal skinfold chamber animal model indicated that both side basement membranes could promote angiogenesis. This bi-sided substrate with two exposed surfaces for cultivating various cells would have potential applications in the skin, cardiac, vascularized composite allografts, and microvascular tissue engineering
