    We present a theoretical and epistemological reflection on Forum Theater’s potential as a Research Tool. Our presence on social action and research has led us to a double reflection on qualitative research’s limitations on the affect studies and the Forum Theater’s potential as a research tool to tackle research about affects. After some specific experiences in action research (qualitative research on romantic love and gender violence, and the creation process of the Forum Theater “Is it a joke?”), we explore Forum Theatre’s possibilities as a research tool in the feminist epistemology framework.Presentamos una reflexión teórico-metodológica sobre el potencial del Teatro Foro como herramienta de investigación. Nuestra presencia en los ámbitos de intervención e investigación ha motivado una doble reflexión en torno, por un lado, a las limitaciones de la investigación cualitativa en el estudio de los afectos y, por el otro; al potencial del Teatro-Foro para el abordaje de los afectos en el ámbito de la investigación.     The water footprint of olives and olive oil in Spain

    This paper evaluates the water footprint of Spanish olives and olive oil over the period 1997-2008. In particular, it analyses the three colour components of the water footprint: green (rainwater stored in the soil), blue (surface and groundwater) and grey (freshwater required to assimilate load of pollutants). Apparent water productivity and virtual water embedded in olive oil exports have also been studied. Results show more than 99.5% of the water footprint of one liter of bottled olive oil is related to the olive production, whereas less than 0.5% is due to the other components such as bottle, cap and label. Over the studied period, the green water footprint in absolute terms of Spanish olive oil production represents about 72% in rainfed systems and just 12% in irrigated olive orchards. Blue and grey water footprints represent 6% and 10% of the national water footprint, respectively. It is shown that olive production is concentrated in regions with the smallest water footprint per unit of product. However, the increase of groundwater consumption in the main olive producing region (Andalusia), from 98 to 378 Mm3 between 1997 and 2008, has added significant pressure in the upstream Guadalquivir basin. This raises questions about the sustainability of irrigated olive orchards for export from the region. Finally, the virtual water related to olive oil exports illustrate the importance of green water footprint of rainfed olives amounting to about 77% of the total virtual water exports

    Generating and measuring the anisotropic elastic behaviour of Co thin films with oriented surface nano-strings on micro-cantilevers

    In this research, the elastic behaviour of two Co thin films simultaneously deposited in an off-normal angle method was studied. Towards this end, two Si micro-cantilevers were simultaneously coated using pulsed laser deposition at an oblique angle, creating a Co nano-string surface morphology with a predetermined orientation. The selected position of each micro-cantilever during the coating process created longitudinal or transverse nano-strings. The anisotropic elastic behaviour of these Co films was determined by measuring the changes that took place in the resonant frequency of each micro-cantilever after this process of creating differently oriented plasma coatings had been completed. This differential procedure allowed us to determine the difference between the Young's modulus of the different films based on the different direction of the nano-strings. This difference was determined to be, at least, the 20% of the Young's modulus of the bulk Co

    Combinatorial k-means clustering as a machine learning tool applied to diabetes mellitus type 2

    A new original procedure based on k-means clustering is designed to find the most appropriate clinical variables able to efficiently separate into groups similar patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) and underlying diseases (arterial hypertonia (AH), ischemic heart disease (CHD), diabetic polyneuropathy (DPNP), and diabetic microangiopathy (DMA)). Clustering is a machine learning tool for discovering structures in datasets. Clustering has been proven to be efficient for pattern recognition based on clinical records. The considered combinatorial k-means procedure explores all possible k-means clustering with a determined number of descriptors and groups. The predetermined conditions for the partitioning were as follows: every single group of patients included patients with DMT2 and one of the underlying diseases; each subgroup formed in such a way was subject to partitioning into three patterns (good health status, medium health status, and degenerated health status); optimal descriptors for each disease and groups. The selection of the best clustering is obtained through the parameter called global variance, defined as the sum of all variance values of all clinical variables of all the clusters. The best clinical parameters are found by minimizing this global variance. This methodology has to identify a set of variables that are assumed to separate each underlying disease efficiently in three different subgroups of patients. The hierarchical clustering obtained for these four underlying diseases could be used to build groups of patients with correlated clinical data. The proposed methodology gives surmised results from complex data based on a relationship with the health status of the group and draws a picture of the prediction rate of the ongoing health status

    A project management approach to competitive intelligence

    The research problem that this study seeks to solve is to examine the relationship between competitive intelligence (CI) and project management (PM). These disciplines coincide in their threefold approach to action, collection of results, and ability to react in response to environmental signs. However, the academic and professional literature has not explored the possible synergies between CI and PM, with the exception of the seminal proposals by Prescott in 1988 and 1999. The aim of this opinion article is to propose a new methodological approach for the production and transfer of CI in accordance with the international standards of PM. The methodology consists of an inductive reasoning process from specific observations and evidence gathered in our professional experience as CI practitioners over twenty years, contrasted with the findings of the scientific literature, the PMBOK® Guide of the Project Management Institute, and with the CI model proposed by the most relevant Spanish technical standards in R&D&I management and strategic intelligence management. The paper discusses the vision of intelligence production and dissemination in a project with five phases or groups of processes: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closure. Also, the responsibilities of the human intelligence team are exposed. This proposal could be an alternative to the departmental-based intelligence cycle model more aligned with the organizational culture and the usual operational practices and business processes of companies, founded on the design and deployment of projects with a specific beginning and end that is carried out to create a product, service or unique result. It is concluded also that there is a need for undertaking experimental implementation and case studies of this proposal in companies and their assessment by future academic studies

    Artificial intelligence in the tourism industry: an overview of reviews

    This study aims to comprehensively synthesize existing literature on AI in tourism, highlighting key themes, strengths, and limitations, and illuminating pathways for future research, including the identification of emerging areas within this context. AI technology is rapidly transforming various sectors, including tourism, by augmenting customer service, improving operational efficiency, personalizing travel experiences, and supporting sustainability initiatives. Despite the growing body of research on this topic, there is a need for a comprehensive and systematic summary of the existing literature to illuminate the most effective uses of AI in this context and to identify gaps for future research. We employed the ‘overview of reviews’ methodology, which involved systematically locating, appraising, and synthesizing the results of previous review articles. Using Web of Science, we identified and analyzed 31 previous review articles on the application of AI in tourism. Their synthesis presents a comprehensive perspective on the present status of AI technology in the tourism sector. It provides valuable insights, not only for practitioners contemplating the implementation of AI solutions but also for academics aspiring to advance this study area. Moreover, the academic implications of this study reaffirm its objective to shape future inquiries into AI applications within tourism, advocate for the efficacious and sustainable employment of AI, and provoke scholarly exploration at the nexus of technology and sustainability in this sector

    Evidence of a new state in 11^{11}Be observed in the 11^{11}Li β\beta-decay

    Coincidences between charged particles emitted in the β\beta-decay of 11^{11}Li were observed using highly segmented detectors. The breakup channels involving three particles were studied in full kinematics allowing for the reconstruction of the excitation energy of the 11^{11}Be states participating in the decay. In particular, the contribution of a previously unobserved state at 16.3 MeV in 11^{11}Be has been identified selecting the α\alpha + 7^7Heα\to\alpha + 6^6He+n channel. The angular correlations between the α\alpha particle and the center of mass of the 6^6He+n system favors spin and parity assignment of 3/2^- for this state as well as for the previously known state at 18 MeV.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure

    The water footprint of a river basin with a special focus on groundwater: The case of Guadalquivir basin (Spain).

    In addition to revealing the hidden link between products or consumption patterns of populations and their needs in terms of water resources, the water footprint (WF) indicator generates new debates and solutions on water management at basin scale. This paper analyses the green and blue WF of the Guadalquivir basin and its integration with environmental water consumption, with a special emphasis on the WF from groundwater and its consequences on current and future depletion of surface water. In a normal year, green WF (agriculture and pastures) amounts to 190 mm on a total green water consumption of 410 mm, while the blue WF (50 mm) represents half of the total blue water flows. This constitutes a first overview and alternative interpretations of the WF as human water appropriation are introduced. The blue WF is almost entirely associated to agriculture (40 mm). The presentation of its evolution over the period 1997?2008 reveals the rising WF from groundwater (13 mm in 2008), 86% being current consumption of surface flows. This evolution is particularly ascribed to the recent development of irrigated olive groves from groundwater. To prevent a higher pressure on the environment, this new use, like all others (thermo-solar plants, tourism, etc.), could have been obtained from the reallocation of water from crops with low water productivity. It means that water is not lacking in the Guadalquivir basin if the governance setting integrates more flexibility and equity in the allocation of water to address climatic variability and the emergence of new demands
