A perceção
This work has as main objectives to analyze the concept of academic tourism,
which, within the concept of educational travel, concerns the students who go
to a foreign country, for a period lower than a year, with the aim of having a
period of studies officially recognized. For this reason, the Erasmus Program is
the main focus of this study, being analyzed on the European level and on the
national level. Empirically, it was made a study with the objective of knowing
the profile of Erasmus students in Aveiro, mainly in the matter of how they
use tourist resources during their mobility, if they recommend the destination
and if they return to Portugal. To achieve this goal, it was applied a
questionnaire to former students that did their Erasmus Program in the
University of Aveiro between 2006 and 2012. It was concluded that these
students feel very satisfied with their experience and they recommend the
University of Aveiro as an Erasmus destination. Also, 48.9% of the respondents
had already returned to Portugal after the end of their mobility. The positive
perception and experience felt by the former Erasmus students is naturally
enriching also for the University of Aveiro, allowing a growing attraction of
international students, which consequently have an important economic and
cultural impact in the city
Mestrado em Estudos EditoriaisThe present work intends to make a brief reflection about traditional oral tale in Portugal. A special emphasis was placed on the traditional tale The Ten Magic Dwarves of Aunt Aquamarine, including the study of part of its editorial history in three editions of the tale. These editions were made by three different publishers, in different periods of time and for that reason we can see the evolution that occurred in the editorial process. The last aim of this work was to present a new editorial proposal with a new and updated version of the story present in the tale. We concluded that the editorial market for Children Literature in Portugal is growing in the last decades. Today, a new generation of authors is giving renovated attention to it in close collaboration with other professionals, like designers and illustrators. In the basis of Children Literature was the traditional oral tales which carry symbols and myths of the past generations. These tales are often rewritten into new versions, with adaptations and updates that may convert them into Children’s Literature or into Adult Literature. Finally, editorial options, such as book size, illustrations or typefaces, also help to define the target audience of a publication. The edition process of a publication has several phases. Starting on a manuscript, which is revised several times, passing through all the book creation chain. Options taken until the book release to the market including not only design decisions, but also marketing and management decisions. Finally, the result of this work is the mockup of a small publication with the titled Did Aunt Aquamarine lend only ten magic dwarves to help? Its intention was to make an updated version which reflected a renovated look over the traditional oral tale under study in this work.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo fazer uma breve reflexão sobre o conto tradicional em Portugal. Did Aunt Aquamarine lend only ten magic dwarves to help?

CK2 Secreted by Leishmania braziliensis Mediates Macrophage Association Invasion: A Comparative Study between Virulent and Avirulent Promastigotes
CK2 is a protein kinase distributed in different compartments of Leishmania braziliensis: an externally oriented ecto-CK2, an intracellular CK2, and a secreted CK2. This latter form is constitutively secreted from the parasite (CsCK2), but such secretion may be highly enhanced by the association of specific molecules, including enzyme substrates, which lead to a higher enzymatic activity, called inductively secreted CK2 (IsCK2). Here, we examined the influence of secreted CK2 (sCK2) activity on the infectivity of a virulent L. braziliensis strain. The virulent strain presented 121-fold higher total CK2 activity than those found in an avirulent strain. The use of specific CK2 inhibitors (TBB, DRB, or heparin) inhibited virulent parasite growth, whereas no effect was observed in the avirulent parasites. When these inhibitors were added to the interaction assays between the virulent L. braziliensis strain and macrophages, association index was drastically inhibited. Polyamines enhanced sCK2 activity and increased the association index between parasites and macrophages. Finally, sCK2 and the supernatant of the virulent strain increased the association index between the avirulent strain and macrophages, which was inhibited by TBB. Thus, the kinase enzyme CK2 seems to be important to invasion mechanisms of L. braziliensis
Characterisation of microbial attack on archaeological bone
As part of an EU funded project to investigate the factors influencing bone preservation in the archaeological record, more than 250 bones from 41 archaeological sites in five countries spanning four climatic regions were studied for diagenetic alteration. Sites were selected to cover a range of environmental conditions and archaeological contexts. Microscopic and physical (mercury intrusion porosimetry) analyses of these bones revealed that the majority (68%) had suffered microbial attack. Furthermore, significant differences were found between animal and human bone in both the state of preservation and the type of microbial attack present. These differences in preservation might result from differences in early taphonomy of the bones. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
