SUMMIT:Supporting Rural Tourism with Motivational Intelligent Technologies
Abstract — SUMMIT is a mobile app that aims to gamify the experience of walkers and hikers and benefit the local communities through which they perambulate. It encourages physical activity through gamification of the user experience by adding additional elements of social fun and motivation to walking and hiking activities. It rewards users for their physical effort by offering access to local resources, hence increasing awareness and appreciation of the local assets and heritage and contributing to the local economy. The evaluation results show that both businesses and walkers were very receptive to the idea

How Expressiveness of a Robotic Tutor is Perceived by Children in a Learning Environment
We present a study investigating the expressiveness of two different types of robots in a tutoring task. The robots used were i) the EMYS robot, with facial expression capabilities, and ii) the NAO robot, without facial expressions but able to perform expressive gestures. Preliminary results show that the NAO robot was perceived to be more friendly, pleasant and empathic than the EMYS robot as a tutor in a learning environment
Feeding the Coffee Habit: A Longitudinal Study of a Robo-Barista
Studying Human-Robot Interaction over time can provide insights into what
really happens when a robot becomes part of people's everyday lives. "In the
Wild" studies inform the design of social robots, such as for the service
industry, to enable them to remain engaging and useful beyond the novelty
effect and initial adoption. This paper presents an "In the Wild" experiment
where we explored the evolution of interaction between users and a
Robo-Barista. We show that perceived trust and prior attitudes are both
important factors associated with the usefulness, adaptability and likeability
of the Robo-Barista. A combination of interaction features and user attributes
are used to predict user satisfaction. Qualitative insights illuminated users'
Robo-Barista experience and contribute to a number of lessons learned for
future long-term studies.Comment: Author Accepted Manuscript, 8 pages, RO-MAN'23, 32nd IEEE

New genetic loci link adipose and insulin biology to body fat distribution.
Body fat distribution is a heritable trait and a well-established predictor of adverse metabolic outcomes, independent of overall adiposity. To increase our understanding of the genetic basis of body fat distribution and its molecular links to cardiometabolic traits, here we conduct genome-wide association meta-analyses of traits related to waist and hip circumferences in up to 224,459 individuals. We identify 49 loci (33 new) associated with waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for body mass index (BMI), and an additional 19 loci newly associated with related waist and hip circumference measures (P < 5 × 10(-8)). In total, 20 of the 49 waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for BMI loci show significant sexual dimorphism, 19 of which display a stronger effect in women. The identified loci were enriched for genes expressed in adipose tissue and for putative regulatory elements in adipocytes. Pathway analyses implicated adipogenesis, angiogenesis, transcriptional regulation and insulin resistance as processes affecting fat distribution, providing insight into potential pathophysiological mechanisms
