Incorporating multiparametric MRI staging and the new histological Grade Group system improves risk-stratified detection of bone metastasis in prostate cancer
: There remains uncertainty on the need for bone staging in men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer. Current guidelines do not use mpMRI-staging information and rely on historic pathology grading.
: We investigated the ability of mpMRI and the new Grade Group system to better predict bone metastasis status in a retrospective cohort study of 438 men with prostate cancer undergoing baseline mpMRI and isotope bone scintigraphy (BS).
: Including mpMRI-staging information significantly increased the specificity of bone metastasis detection from 3.0% to 24.2% (P<0.01) and sensitivity from 89.2% to 97.3%. The new Grade Group score demonstrated progressive increase in bone metastasis rates (P<0.001). A novel risk-stratification model combining Grade Groups, PSA and mpMRI staging shows promise in predicting bone metastasis and could potentially reduce BS usage by 22.4%-34.7%.

The All of Us Research Program: Engaging the Community for the Future of Health
The All of Us Research Program (AoURP), funded by the National Institutes of Health, is an ambitious ten-year effort to enroll over one million participants across the country. The AoURP is a key part of the Precision Medicine Initiative and seeks to build a national cohort collecting self-reported health data, medical record data, biospecimen samples and physical measurements to accelerate precision medicine. Precision Medicine is an emerging approach for healthcare treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person. Researchers at the Meyers Primary Care Institute and the University of Massachusetts Medical School have partnered with Reliant Medical Group to enroll over 10,000 participants in 5 years. The Meyers/Reliant team is actively working to engage the local community, educational institutions, and community organizations to increase awareness of the program and encourage participation. Our efforts have focused specifically on populations previously underrepresented in biomedical research, including older adults, racial and ethnic minority group members, and others. We are hoping to grow new relationships and build strong community partnerships to help us achieve our enrollment goals and communicate the great potential of the AoU Research Program to change the future of medical research with a focus on precision medicine
On the algorithmic construction of classifying spaces and the isomorphism problem for biautomatic groups

Urban Legends and Paranormal Beliefs: The Role of Reality Testing and Schizotypy
Recent research suggests that unconventional beliefs are locatable within a generic anomalous belief category. This notion derives from the observation that apparently dissimilar beliefs share fundamental, core characteristics (i.e., contradiction of orthodox scientific understanding of the universe and defiance of conventional understanding of reality). The present paper assessed the supposition that anomalous beliefs were conceptually similar and explicable via common psychological processes by comparing relationships between discrete beliefs [endorsement of urban legends (ULs) and belief in the paranormal] and cognitive-perceptual personality measures [proneness to reality testing (RT) and schizotypy]. A sample of 222 volunteers, recruited via convenience sampling, took part in the study. Participants completed a series of self-report measures (Urban Legends Questionnaire, Reality Testing subscale of the Inventory of Personality Organization, Revised Paranormal Belief Scale and the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire Brief). Preliminary analysis revealed positive correlations between measures. Within schizotypy, the cognitive-perceptual factor was most strongly associated with anomalistic beliefs; disorganized and interpersonal produced only weak and negligible correlations respectively. Further investigation indicated complex relationships between RT, the cognitive-perceptual factor of schizotypy and anomalistic beliefs. Specifically, proneness to RT deficits explained a greater amount of variance in ULs, whilst schizotypy accounted for more variance in belief in the paranormal. Consideration of partial correlations supported these conclusions. The relationship between RT and ULs remained significant after controlling for the cognitive-perceptual factor. Contrastingly, the association between the cognitive-perceptual factor and ULs controlling for RT was non-significant. In the case of belief in the paranormal, controlling for proneness to RT reduced correlation size, but relationships remained significant. This study demonstrated that anomalistic beliefs vary in nature and composition. Findings indicated that generalized views of anomalistic beliefs provide only limited insight into the complex nature of belief
Perceived Stress, Thinking Style and Paranormal Belief
Paranormal beliefs often become stronger in times of stress. Such beliefs have also been found to vary in accordance with thinking style, whereby stronger beliefs are often observed in experiential thinkers. Little research, however, has explored the interaction between perceived stress and thinking style. 82 males and females aged 18 to 62 years (mean = 29.96 ± 12.53 years) completed measures of perceived stress, thinking style (rational and experiential) and paranormal belief. The results revealed stronger beliefs in experiential thinkers, compared with those with a rational thinking style. Perceived stress alone, was not a prominent predictor of belief but the combination of stress and thinking style, specifically high perceived stress with a rational thinking style, significantly predicted greater global paranormal belief, belief in superstition, traditional religious belief, and belief in psi. High perceived stress appeared to facilitate belief in rational thinkers as conversely, belief was lowest in rational thinkers under conditions of low-perceived stress. These findings suggest that stress may lower the propensity for rational thinking and consequently, encourage belief in scientifically unsubstantiated phenomena. This interaction may have implications for coping during stressful situations
Failing boys and moral panics: perspectives on the underachievement debate
The paper re-examines the underachievement debate from the perspective of the âdiscourse of derisionâ that surrounds much writing in this area. It considers the contradictions and inconsistencies which underpin much of the discourse â from a reinterpretation of examination scores, to the conflation of the concepts of âunderâ and âlowâ achievement and finally to the lack of consensus on a means of defining and measuring the term underachievement. In doing so, this paper suggests a more innovative approach for understanding, re-evaluating and perhaps rejecting the notion of underachievement

Advances in technology have produced a range of devices on which a book can be read, from an eâbook reader to a tablet or phone. Eâbooks have the advantages that a reader can take a sizeable selection when traveling, read backlit text, and enlarge the type size to suit. The book exists in both printed and digital form, as pâbook and eâbook. Digital technology has also revolutionized the production of printed books. Digital printing, as opposed to traditional offset printing, enables genuine print on demand as well as short runs. This facility has less relevance to the world of massâmarket paperbacks, where large print runs mean that the benefits of offset printing still apply, but it is of great interest to most publishers and those who want to selfâpublish. In fact, more books are published than ever before, and there has been a boom in selfâpublishing
Towards a Synthesis of Core-Collapse Supernova Theory
New insights into the mechanism and character of core--collapse supernova
explosions are transforming the approach of theorists to their subject. The
universal realization that the direct hydrodynamic mechanism does not work and
that a variety of hydrodynamic instabilities can influence the viability of
theoretical explosions has ushered in a new era in supernova modeling. In this
paper, I discuss the important physical and technical issues that remain. I
review the neutrino--driven mechanism, the possible roles of Rayleigh--Taylor
instabilities, questions in neutrino transport, and the various observational
constraints within which theorists must operate. However, a consensus has yet
to be achieved among active workers concerning many important details and some
essential phenomenology. This synopsis is meant to accomplish two things: 1) to
focus attention on the interesting problems whose resolution will bring needed

Ergs: The Evolution of Shell Supernova Remnants
This paper reports on a workshop hosted by the University of Minnesota, March
23-26, 1997. It addressed fundamental dynamical issues associated with the
evolution of shell supernova remnants and the relationships between supernova
remnants and their environments. The workshop considered, in addition to
classical shell SNRs, dynamical issues involving X-ray filled composite
remnants and pulsar driven shells, such as that in the Crab Nebula.
Approximately 75 participants with wide ranging interests attended the
workshop. An even larger community helped through extensive on-line debates
prior to the meeting. Each of the several sessions, organized mostly around
chronological labels, also addressed some underlying, general physical themes:
How are SNR dynamics and structures modified by the character of the CSM and
the ISM and vice versa? How are magnetic fields generated in SNRs and how do
magnetic fields influence SNRs? Where and how are cosmic-rays (electrons and
ions) produced in SNRs and how does their presence influence or reveal SNR
dynamics? How does SNR blast energy partition into various components over time
and what controls conversion between components? In lieu of a proceedings
volume, we present here a synopsis of the workshop in the form of brief
summaries of the workshop sessions. The sharpest impressions from the workshop
were the crucial and under-appreciated roles that environments have on SNR
appearance and dynamics and the critical need for broad-based studies to
