Biblical counselling regarding inner change
The concept of inner change is not only the ultimate goal of counselling; it is also a central concept of the gospel. Biblical counselling entails a Scriptural understanding of the nature of change and aims at helping the counsellee change his/her inner life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Change is the essence of the process of sanctification, entailing “putting off” (laying off) sinful ways of life, renewing the mind, and ”putting on” (“clothing” oneself) with godly ways of life (Eph. 4:22 ff.; Col. 3:8 ff.; Rom. 12:1-2). Although believers have a new identity in Christ, they still suffer from the effect of sin and have to grow in sanctification. Often the believer has not been instructed about changing previous irrational and unbiblical beliefs, behaviour, and habits, and he/she thus still integrates these negative results of sin into his/her new life. Unless old patterns are replaced with new ones, the counsellee can revert to sinful habits, unbiblical beliefs and behavioural patterns. A pastoral counsellor thus needs to teach the counsellee that God has made provision for him/her to change. A worldly anthropology-psychology is entirely opposed to the Biblical doctrines of sin and sanctification. Effective Biblical counselling depends on a Biblical anthropology and world view. A Biblical counsellor should promote holiness and a lifestyle in accordance with Biblical guidelines, thus shaping the counsellee to the likeness of Jesus Christ. When a Biblical counsellor ministers the Word of God in a life-transforming way, then God himself changes the counsellee from the inside out. A counsellor may not ignore sin and its effect as it will limit the effectiveness of counselling in facilitating lasting change in the life of a counsellee. Interferometry as a binary decision problem
Binary decision theory has been applied to the general interferometric
problem. Optimal detection scheme-according to the Neyman-Pearson criterion-has
been considered for different phase-enhanced states of radiation field, and the
corresponding bounds on minimum detectable phase shift has been evaluated. A
general bound on interferometric precision has been also obtained in terms of

Climate and human forcing of Alpine river flow
River flow in Alpine environments is likely to be highly sensitive to
climate change because of the effects of warming upon snow and ice, and
hence the intra-annual distribution of river runoff. It is also likely
to be influenced strongly by human impacts both upon hydrology (e.g.
flow abstraction) and river regulation. This paper compares the river
flow and sediment flux of two Alpine drainage basins over the last 5 to
7 decades, one that is largely unimpacted by human activities, one
strongly impacted by flow abstraction for hydroelectricity. The analysis
shows that both river flow and sediment transport capacity are strongly
dependent upon the effects of temperature and precipitation availability
upon snow accumulation. As the latter tends to increase annual maximum
flows, and given the non-linear form of most sediment transport laws,
current warming trends may lead to increased sedimentation in Alpine
rivers. However, extension to a system impacted upon by flow abstraction
reveals the dominant effect that human activity can have upon river
sedimentation but also how human response to sediment management has
co-evolved with climate forcing to make disentangling the two very
difficult
Rare-Earth Nuclei: Radii, Isotope-Shifts and Deformation Properties in the Relativistic Mean Field Theory
A systematic study of the ground-state properties of even-even rare earth
nuclei has been performed in the framework of the Relativistic Mean-Field (RMF)
theory using the parameter set NL-SH. Nuclear radii, isotope shifts and
deformation properties of the heavier rare-earth nuclei have been obtained,
which encompass atomic numbers ranging from Z=60 to Z=70 and include a large
range of isospin. It is shown that RMF theory is able to provide a good and
comprehensive description of the empirical binding energies of the isotopic
chains. At the same time the quadrupole deformations obtained in
the RMF theory are found to be in good agreement with the available empirical
values. The theory predicts a shape transition from prolate to oblate for
nuclei at neutron number N=78 in all the chains. A further addition of neutrons
up to the magic number 82 brings about the spherical shape. For nuclei above
N=82, the RMF theory predicts the well-known onset of prolate deformation at
about N=88, which saturates at about N=102. The deformation properties display
an identical behaviour for all the nuclear chains. A good description of the
above deformation transitions in the RMF theory in all the isotopic chains
leads to a successful reproduction of the anomalous behaviour of the empirical
isotopic shifts of the rare-earth nuclei. The RMF theory exhibits a remarkable
success in providing a unified and microscopic description of various empirical

Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment of the Top Quark Revisited
We study the complete one-loop contributions to the chromagnetic dipole
moment of the top quark in the Standard Model, two Higgs doublet
models, topcolor assited technicolor models (TC2), 331 models and extended
models with a single extra dimension. We find that the SM predicts
and that the predictions of the other models are also
consitent with the constraints imposed on by low-energy

Survey of nucleon electromagnetic form factors
A dressed-quark core contribution to nucleon electromagnetic form factors is
calculated. It is defined by the solution of a Poincare' covariant Faddeev
equation in which dressed-quarks provide the elementary degree of freedom and
correlations between them are expressed via diquarks. The nucleon-photon vertex
involves a single parameter; i.e., a diquark charge radius. It is argued to be
commensurate with the pion's charge radius. A comprehensive analysis and
explanation of the form factors is built upon this foundation. A particular
feature of the study is a separation of form factor contributions into those
from different diagram types and correlation sectors, and subsequently a
flavour separation for each of these. Amongst the extensive body of results
that one could highlight are: r_1^{n,u}>r_1^{n,d}, owing to the presence of
axial-vector quark-quark correlations; and for both the neutron and proton the
ratio of Sachs electric and magnetic form factors possesses a zero.Comment: 43 pages, 17 figures, 12 tables, 5 appendice
PYTHIA 6.4 Physics and Manual
The PYTHIA program can be used to generate high-energy-physics `events', i.e.
sets of outgoing particles produced in the interactions between two incoming
particles. The objective is to provide as accurate as possible a representation
of event properties in a wide range of reactions, within and beyond the
Standard Model, with emphasis on those where strong interactions play a role,
directly or indirectly, and therefore multihadronic final states are produced.
The physics is then not understood well enough to give an exact description;
instead the program has to be based on a combination of analytical results and
various QCD-based models. This physics input is summarized here, for areas such
as hard subprocesses, initial- and final-state parton showers, underlying
events and beam remnants, fragmentation and decays, and much more. Furthermore,
extensive information is provided on all program elements: subroutines and
functions, switches and parameters, and particle and process data. This should

Measurement of the dijet invariant mass cross section in proton anti-proton collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV
The inclusive dijet production double differential cross section as a
function of the dijet invariant mass and of the largest absolute rapidity of
the two jets with the largest transverse momentum in an event is measured in
proton anti-proton collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using 0.7 fb^{-1}
integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron
Collider. The measurement is performed in six rapidity regions up to a maximum
rapidity of 2.4. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD predictions are found

Observation of hard scattering in photoproduction events with a large rapidity gap at HERA
Events with a large rapidity gap and total transverse energy greater than 5
GeV have been observed in quasi-real photoproduction at HERA with the ZEUS
detector. The distribution of these events as a function of the
centre of mass energy is consistent with diffractive scattering. For total
transverse energies above 12 GeV, the hadronic final states show predominantly
a two-jet structure with each jet having a transverse energy greater than 4
GeV. For the two-jet events, little energy flow is found outside the jets. This
observation is consistent with the hard scattering of a quasi-real photon with
