The small x gluon and b\bar{b} production at the LHC
We study open b\bar{b} production at large rapidity at the LHC in an attempt
to pin down the gluon distribution at very low x. For the LHC energy of 7 TeV,
at next-to-leading order (NLO), there is a large factorization scale
uncertainty. We show that the uncertainty can be greatly reduced if events are
selected in which the transverse momenta of the two B-mesons balance each other
to some accuracy, that is |\vec p_{1T}+\vec p_{2T}| < k_0. This will fix the
scale \mu_F \simeq k_0, and will allow the LHCb experiment, in particular, to
study the x-behaviour of gluon distribution down to x ~ 10^{-5}, at rather low
scales, \mu ~ 2 GeV. We evaluate the expected cross sections using, for
illustrative purposes, various recent sets of Parton Distribution Functions.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure
First normal stress difference and crystallization in a dense sheared granular fluid
The first normal stress difference () and the microstructure
in a dense sheared granular fluid of smooth inelastic hard-disks are probed
using event-driven simulations. While the anisotropy in the second moment of
fluctuation velocity, which is a Burnett-order effect, is known to be the
progenitor of normal stress differences in {\it dilute} granular fluids, we
show here that the collisional anisotropies are responsible for the normal
stress behaviour in the {\it dense} limit. As in the elastic hard-sphere
fluids, remains {\it positive} (if the stress is defined in
the {\it compressive} sense) for dilute and moderately dense flows, but becomes
{\it negative} above a critical density, depending on the restitution
coefficient. This sign-reversal of occurs due to the {\it
microstructural} reorganization of the particles, which can be correlated with
a preferred value of the {\it average} collision angle in the direction opposing the shear. We also report on the shear-induced
{\it crystal}-formation, signalling the onset of fluid-solid coexistence in
dense granular fluids. Different approaches to take into account the normal
stress differences are discussed in the framework of the relaxation-type
rheological models.Comment: 21 pages, 13 figure
Finite Theories and the SUSY Flavor Problem
We study a finite SU(5) grand unified model based on the non-Abelian discrete
symmetry A_4. This model leads to the democratic structure of the mass matrices
for the quarks and leptons. In the soft supersymmetry breaking sector, the
scalar trilinear couplings are aligned and the soft scalar masses are
degenerate, thus solving the SUSY flavor problem.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, 1 figur
Measurements of inclusive W+jets production rates as a function of jet transverse momentum in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
This Letter describes measurements of inclusive W (--> e nu) + n jet cross
sections (n = 1-4), presented as total inclusive cross sections and
differentially in the nth jet transverse momentum. The measurements are made
using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb-1 collected by
the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, and achieve considerably
smaller uncertainties on W +jets production cross sections than previous
measurements. The measurements are compared to next-to-leading order
perturbative QCD (pQCD) calculations in the n =1-3 jet multiplicity bins and to
leading order pQCD calculations in the 4-jet bin. The measurements are
generally in agreement with pQCD predictions, although certain regions of phase
space are identified where the calculations could be improved
Search for scalar bottom quarks and third-generation leptoquarks in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We report the results of a search for pair production of scalar bottom quarks
(sbottom) and scalar third-generation leptoquarks in 5.2 fb-1 of ppbar
collisions at the D0 experiment of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Scalar
bottom quarks are assumed to decay to a neutralino and a quark, and we set
95% C.L. lower limits on their production in the (m_sbottom, m_neutralino) mass
plane such as m_sbottom>247 GeV for m_neutralino=0 and m_neutralino>110 GeV for
160<m_sbottom<200 GeV. The leptoquarks are assumed to decay to a tau neutrino
and a quark, and we set a 95% C.L. lower limit of 247 GeV on the mass of a
charge-1/3 third-generation scalar leptoquark.Comment: Published by Phys. Lett.
Limits on anomalous trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW, WZ and Wgamma production in pp-bar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present final searches of the anomalous gammaWW and ZWW trilinear gauge
boson couplings from WW and WZ production using lepton plus dijet final states
and a combination with results from Wgamma, WW, and WZ production with leptonic
final states. The analyzed data correspond to up to 8.6/fb of integrated
luminosity collected by the D0 detector in pp-bar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96
TeV. We set the most stringent limits at a hadron collider to date assuming two
different relations between the anomalous coupling parameters
Delta\kappa_\gamma, lambda, and Delta g_1^Z for a cutoff energy scale Lambda=2
TeV. The combined 68% C.L. limits are -0.057<Delta\kappa_\gamma<0.154,
-0.015<lambda<0.028, and -0.008<Delta g_1^Z<0.054 for the LEP parameterization,
and -0.007<Delta\kappa<0.081 and -0.017<lambda<0.028 for the equal couplings
parameterization. We also present the most stringent limits of the W boson
magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to PL
Measurement of spin correlation in ttbar production using dilepton final states
We measure the correlation between the spin of the top quark and the spin of
the anti-top quark in (ttbar -> W+ W- b bbar -> l+ nu b l- nubar bbar) final
states produced in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96
TeV, where l is an electron or muon. The data correspond to an integrated
luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 and were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab
Tevatron collider. The correlation is extracted from the angles of the two
leptons in the t and tbar rest frames, yielding a correlation strength C=
0.10^{+0.45}_{-0.45}, in agreement with the NLO QCD prediction within two
standard deviations, but also in agreement with the no correlation hypothesis.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, submitted to PL
Measurement of Z/gamma*+jet+X angular distributions in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present the first measurements at a hadron collider of differential cross
sections for Z+jet+X production in delta phi(Z, jet), |delta y(Z, jet)| and
|y_boost(Z, jet)|. Vector boson production in association with jets is an
excellent probe of QCD and constitutes the main background to many small cross
section processes, such as associated Higgs production. These measurements are
crucial tests of the predictions of perturbative QCD and current event
generators, which have varied success in describing the data. Using these
measurements as inputs in tuning event generators will increase the
experimental sensitivity to rare signals.Comment: Published in Physics Letters B 682 (2010), pp. 370-380. 15 pages, 6

Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using Lepton + Jets Events with Lifetime b-tagging
We present a measurement of the top quark pair () production cross
section () in collisions at TeV
using 230 pb of data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab
Tevatron Collider. We select events with one charged lepton (electron or muon),
missing transverse energy, and jets in the final state. We employ
lifetime-based b-jet identification techniques to further enhance the
purity of the selected sample. For a top quark mass of 175 GeV, we
measure pb, in
agreement with the standard model expectation.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 3 tables Submitted to Phys.Rev.Let
