    Avaliação do desempenho de cultivares de alface em cultivo hidropônico e panorama da hidroponia no Estado do Espírito Santo

    Poucos estudos sobre o comportamento da cultura da alface em sistemas hidropônicos no Brasil, principalmente em ambiente tropical, têm levado muitos produtores a escolher cultivares sem qualquer embasamento científico e segurança estatística, resultando em perdas econômicas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento de cultivares de alface em ambiente tropical para recomendar novas cultivares mais adaptadas ao cultivo hidropônico em clima tropical, e levantar o panorama do cultivo hidropônico no Espírito Santo. Foram realizados três experimentos, instalados em DIC, ao longo do ano de 2011, utilizando 13 cultivares de alface, sendo seis do grupo lisa (Vitória de Santo Antão, Babá de Verão, Rainha de Maio, Regina de Verão, Aurélia e Maravilha de Verão), quatro do grupo crespa (Grand Rapids, Veneranda, Mônica e Itapuã), duas do grupo mimosa (Salad Bowl e Rubi) e uma cultivar americana (Delícia). Em cada experimento, foram avaliados: massa fresca da parte aérea e da raiz; massa seca da parte aérea e da raiz; número de folhas; comprimento e diâmetro do caule; volume de raiz; altura e diâmetro da planta; aspecto visual; e teste de degustação. As cultivares lisas Vitória de Santo Antão e Babá de Verão apresentam boa produtividade nas condições propostas em todos os ensaios. A cultivar crespa Grand Rapids mostra-se muito sensível ao fator temperatura, apresentando pendoamento precoce, devendo ter sua colheita antecipada. A cultivar mimosa Rubi não apresenta bom desempenho em ambiente tropical, sendo recomendado manter as plantas nas bancadas de produção por um tempo maior. A cultivar americana Delícia apresentou bom desempenho e boa aceitação nos testes relativos a aspecto visual e degustação. A pesquisa sobre o levantamento da hidroponia no Espírito Santo mostra que há 17 hidroponias em funcionamento, totalizando uma área de 3,0 hectares. A alface representa 90% do volume total de hortaliças hidropônicas, sendo os outros 10% voltados á produção de rúcula e condimentos. São comercializados aproximadamente 168 mil pés de alface por mês. Todos os produtores estão incluídos na categoria de grau tecnológico intermediário. O Espírito Santo já possui uma considerável produção hidropônica, porém ainda é um setor que tem grande capacidade de expansão, devido tanto ao apelo do consumidor que exige qualidade durante todo o ano quanto aos problemas climáticos adversos na maioria das regiões capixabas que prejudicam a produção de qualidadeFew studies on the behavior of the lettuce in hydroponic culture in Brazil, mainly in tropical environment, have led many producers to choose cultivars with no scientific background and safety statistics, resulting in economic losses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the behavior of the lettuce in a tropical environment to recommend new cultivars better adapted to hydroponic cultivation in tropical climates, and raise an overview of hydroponics in the Espírito Santo. Three experiments were conducted, installed in DIC, during the year 2011, using 13 varieties of lettuce, six of smooth group (Vitória de Santo Antão, Babá de Verão, Rainha de Maio, Regina de Verão, Aurélia e Maravilha de Verão), four crisp group (Grand Rapids, Veneranda, Mônica and Itapuã), two group mimosa (Salad Bowl and Ruby) and an American (Delícia). In each experiment, were evaluated: fresh weight of shoot and root, shoot dry mass and root, leaf number, length and stem diameter, root volume, plant height and diameter, visual appearance, and tasting. Cultivars smooth Vitória de Santo Antão and Babá de Verão show high productivity under the proposed conditions in all trials. The crisp cultivar Grand Rapids is very sensitive to the temperature factor, showing bolting which leads to a soon harvest. The mimosa cultivar Rubi does not show good performance in a tropical environment and is recommended to keep the plants in the production benches for a longer time. The growing american Delícia had a good performance and good acceptance tests for the visual appearance and taste. Research on survey of hydroponics in the Espírito Santo has shown that there are 17 hidroponias in operation, totaling an area of 3.0 hectares. Lettuce represents 90% of the total volume of hydroponic vegetables. Approximately, 168,000 feet of lettuce are sold per month. All producers are included in the category of intermediate technological level.     Searching for long-lived particles beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider

    International audienceParticles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these long-lived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the interaction vertex of the primary proton–proton collision. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches for new physics at the LHC, often requiring customized techniques to identify, for example, significantly displaced decay vertices, tracks with atypical properties, and short track segments. Given their non-standard nature, a comprehensive overview of LLP signatures at the LHC is beneficial to ensure that possible avenues of the discovery of new physics are not overlooked. Here we report on the joint work of a community of theorists and experimentalists with the ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb experiments—as well as those working on dedicated experiments such as MoEDAL, milliQan, MATHUSLA, CODEX-b, and FASER—to survey the current state of LLP searches at the LHC, and to chart a path for the development of LLP searches into the future, both in the upcoming Run 3 and at the high-luminosity LHC. The work is organized around the current and future potential capabilities of LHC experiments to generally discover new LLPs, and takes a signature-based approach to surveying classes of models that give rise to LLPs rather than emphasizing any particular theory motivation. We develop a set of simplified models; assess the coverage of current searches; document known, often unexpected backgrounds; explore the capabilities of proposed detector upgrades; provide recommendations for the presentation of search results; and look towards the newest frontiers, namely high-multiplicity ‘dark showers’, highlighting opportunities for expanding the LHC reach for these signals
