Revisiting the dynamic of Q-deformed logistic maps
We consider the logistic family and apply the -deformation
. We study the stability regions of the fixed
points of the -deformed logistic map and the regions where the dynamic is
complex through topological entropy and Lyapunov exponents. Our results show
that the dynamic of this deformed family is richer than that of the

Describing the Dynamics and Complexity of Matsumoto-Nonaka's Duopoly Model
We study the duopoly model proposed by Matsumoto and Nonaka (2006), in which two firms produce two complementary goods, and there are externalities of different signs. We analyze the topological complexity of the model by computing its topological entropy with prescribed accuracy, and, in addition, we show when such topological complexity is physically observable by characterizing the attractors. Finally, we exploit the fact that reaction maps have negative Schwarzian derivative to show the existence of absolutely continuous (with respect to Lebesgue measure) ergodic measures, and, as an economic application, we compute the average profit for almost all initial conditions
Expanding the genetic spectrum of TUBB1-related thrombocytopenia
β1-Tubulin plays a major role in proplatelet formation and platelet shape maintenance, and pathogenic variants in TUBB1 lead to thrombocytopenia and platelet anisocytosis (TUBB1-RT). To date, the reported number of pedigrees with TUBB1-RT and of rare TUBB1 variants with experimental demonstration of pathogenicity is limited. Here, we report 9 unrelated families presenting with thrombocytopenia carrying 6 β1-tubulin variants, p.Cys12LeufsTer12, p.Thr107Pro, p.Gln423*, p.Arg359Trp, p.Gly109Glu, and p.Gly269Asp, the last of which novel. Segregation studies showed incomplete penetrance of these variants for platelet traits. Indeed, most carriers showed macrothrombocytopenia, some only increased platelet size, and a minority had no abnormalities. Moreover, only homozygous carriers of the p.Gly109Glu variant displayed macrothrombocytopenia, highlighting the importance of allele burden in the phenotypic expression of TUBB1-RT. The p.Arg359Trp, p.Gly269Asp, and p.Gly109Glu variants deranged β1-tubulin incorporation into the microtubular marginal ring in platelets but had a negligible effect on platelet activation, secretion, or spreading, suggesting that β1-tubulin is dispensable for these processes. Transfection of TUBB1 missense variants in CHO cells altered β1-tubulin incorporation into the microtubular network. In addition, TUBB1 variants markedly impaired proplatelet formation from peripheral blood CD34+ cell-derived megakaryocytes. Our study, using in vitro modeling, molecular characterization, and clinical investigations provides a deeper insight into the pathogenicity of rare TUBB1 variants. The application of omics in ruminant production: a review in the tropical and sub-tropical animal production context
The demand for animal products (e.g. dairy and beef) in tropical regions is expected to increase in parallel with the public demand for sustainable practices, due to factors such as population growth and climate change. The necessity to increase animal production output must be achieved with better management and production technologies. For this to happen, novel research methodologies, animal selection and postgenomic tools play a pivotal role. Indeed, improving breeder selection programs, the quality of meat and dairy products as well as animal health will contribute to higher sustainability and productivity. This would surely benefit regions where resource quality and quantity are increasingly unstable, and research is still very incipient, which is the case of many regions in the tropics. Parrondo’s Paradox for Tent Maps
In this paper, we study the dynamic Parrondo’s paradox for the well-known family of tent maps. We prove that this paradox is impossible when we consider piecewise linear maps with constant slope. In addition, we analyze the paradox “simple + simple = complex” when a tent map with constant slope and a piecewise linear homeomorphism with two different slopes are considered
