Solutions of the sDiff(2)Toda equation with SU(2) Symmetry
We present the general solution to the Plebanski equation for an H-space that
admits Killing vectors for an entire SU(2) of symmetries, which is therefore
also the general solution of the sDiff(2)Toda equation that allows these
symmetries. Desiring these solutions as a bridge toward the future for yet more
general solutions of the sDiff(2)Toda equation, we generalize the earlier work
of Olivier, on the Atiyah-Hitchin metric, and re-formulate work of Babich and
Korotkin, and Tod, on the Bianchi IX approach to a metric with an SU(2) of
symmetries. We also give careful delineations of the conformal transformations
required to ensure that a metric of Bianchi IX type has zero Ricci tensor, so
that it is a self-dual, vacuum solution of the complex-valued version of
Einstein's equations, as appropriate for the original Plebanski equation.Comment: 27 page
A Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events: Cuore, an Update
CUORE is a proposed tightly packed array of 1000 TeO_{2} bolometers, each
being a cube 5 cm on a side with a mass of 750 gms. The array consists of 25
vertical towers, arranged in a square, of 5 towers by 5 towers, each containing
10 layers of 4 crystals. The design of the detector is optimized for ultralow-
background searches for neutrinoless double beta decay of ^{130}Te (33.8%
abundance), cold dark matter, solar axions, and rare nuclear decays. A
preliminary experiment involving 20 crystals of various sizes (MIBETA) has been
completed, and a single CUORE tower is being constructed as a smaller scale
experiment called CUORICINO. The expected performance and sensitivity, based on
Monte Carlo simulations and extrapolations of present results, are reported.Comment: in press: Nucl. Phys. of Russian Academy of Sc

Measurement of and Production in Collisions at = 1.96 TeV
The Standard Model predictions for and production are
tested using an integrated luminosity of 200 pb of \ppbar collision data
collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The cross sections are measured
selecting leptonic decays of the and bosons, and photons with
transverse energy GeV that are well separated from leptons. The
production cross sections and kinematic distributions for the and
are compared to SM predictions.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
Double Diffraction Dissociation at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider
We present results from a measurement of double diffraction dissociation in
collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The production cross
section for events with a central pseudorapidity gap of width
(overlapping ) is found to be [] at [630]
GeV. Our results are compared with previous measurements and with predictions
based on Regge theory and factorization.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, using RevTeX. Submitted to Physical Review

Decision support for the general aviation pilot

Required tasks dictate more “head-in-the-cockpit” computation, which can easily distract a pilot from safe airplane operation. Following eight years of research, we present an on-board PC-based computational system that increases pilot situational awareness, decreases diversion to routine computations, and anticipates upcoming needs. The key to anticipatory flight management is an expert system that uses knowledge of ATC procedures, aircraft operating procedures and limitations, and aircraft performance to infer current flight operating “mode” without direct pilot intervention or input. A flight mode interpreter (FMI) enables automatic display selection, pilot advice, and warning. This paper reports the development of an FMI-based flight management system, called General Aviation Pilot Advisory and Training System (GAPATS), that is being developed jointly by Texas A&M University and Knowledge Based Systems, Inc. Software development is carried out using a fixed-base engineering flight simulator. Pilot participation in all phases of development and evaluation is the norm. Flight tests have begun on an instrumented research light twin owned by the Texas A&M University Flight Mechanics

Measurement of the Dipion Mass Spectrum in X(3872) -> J/Psi Pi+ Pi- Decays
We measure the dipion mass spectrum in X(3872)--> J/Psi Pi+ Pi- decays using
360 pb-1 of pbar-p collisions at 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector.
The spectrum is fit with predictions for odd C-parity (3S1, 1P1, and 3DJ)
charmonia decaying to J/Psi Pi+ Pi-, as well as even C-parity states in which
the pions are from Rho0 decay. The latter case also encompasses exotic
interpretations, such as a D0-D*0Bar molecule. Only the 3S1 and J/Psi Rho
hypotheses are compatible with our data. Since 3S1 is untenable on other
grounds, decay via J/Psi Rho is favored, which implies C=+1 for the X(3872).
Models for different J/Psi-Rho angular momenta L are considered. Flexibility in
the models, especially the introduction of Rho-Omega interference, enable good
descriptions of our data for both L=0 and 1.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures -- Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Observation of Bs-Bsbar Oscillations
We report the observation of Bs-Bsbar oscillations from a time-dependent
measurement of the Bs-Bsbar oscillation frequency Delta ms. Using a data sample
of 1 fb^-1 of p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we find signals of 5600 fully reconstructed
hadronic Bs decays, 3100 partially reconstructed hadronic Bs decays, and 61500
partially reconstructed semileptonic Bs decays. We measure the probability as a
function of proper decay time that the Bs decays with the same, or opposite,
flavor as the flavor at production, and we find a signal for Bs-Bsbar
oscillations. The probability that random fluctuations could produce a
comparable signal is 8 X 10^-8, which exceeds 5 sigma significance. We measure
Delta ms = 17.77 +- 0.10 (stat) +- 0.07 (syst) ps^-1
and extract
|Vtd/Vts| = 0.2060 +- 0.0007 (exp) + 0.0081 - 0.0060 (theor).Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter
Measurement of the Ratio of Branching Fractions B(D0 -> K+ pi-)/B(D0 -> K- pi+) using the CDF II Detector
We present a measurement of R_B, the ratio of the branching fraction for the
rare decay D0 -> K+ pi- to that for the Cabibbo-favored decay D0 -> K- pi+.
Charge conjugate decays are implicitly included. A signal of 2005 +/- 104
events for the decay D0 -> K+ pi- is obtained using the CDF II detector at the
Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data set corresponds to an integrated
luminosity of 0.35 1/fb produced in p-bar/p collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV.
Assuming no mixing, we find R_B = [ 4.05 +/- 0.21 (stat) +/- 0.11 (syst) ] x
10(-3). This measurement is consistent with the world average, and comparable
in accuracy with the best measurements from other experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
