Health Aspects of Housing and Town Planning

This paper presents an overview of those parameters that define health aspects of rural and urban housing. It begins with a brief historical account of the major preoccupations faced by those concerned with environmental health. It then examines how dwelling hygiene and safety can be ensured by accounting for biological, chemical, engineering and physical parameters that are relevant to human health and well-being in residential quarters. The author draws on his broad knowledge of studies funded and/or published by the World Health Organization to establish a range of principles that ought to be the goal for promoting health and well-being at the community or municipal level

Towards integration of environmental and health impact assessments for wild capture fishing and farmed fish with particular reference to public health and occupational health dimensions

The paper offers a review and commentary, with particular reference to the production of fish from wild capture fisheries and aquaculture, on neglected aspects of health impact assessments which are viewed by a range of international and national health bodies and development agencies as valuable and necessary project tools. Assessments sometimes include environmental health impact assessments but rarely include specific occupational health and safety impact assessments especially integrated into a wider public health assessment. This is in contrast to the extensive application of environmental impact assessments to fishing and the comparatively large body of research now generated on the public health effects of eating fish. The value of expanding and applying the broader assessments would be considerable because in 2004 the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization reports there were 41,408,000 people in the total ‘fishing’ sector including 11,289,000 in aquaculture. The paper explores some of the complex interactions that occur with regard to fishing activities and proposes the wider adoption of health impact assessment tools in these neglected sectors through an integrated public health impact assessment tool

Prestation logistique : la transition du 3PL au 4PL

Supply Chain ManagementDans un contexte de forte compétitivité et soumis à de rapides évolutions, les prestataires logistiques font face à d’importantes pressions. Afin de s’assurer de la reconduction des contrats et de pouvoir satisfaire les attentes clients toujours plus exigeantes, il leur faut améliorer leur offre de service pour répondre à des besoins de sous-traitance plus poussés. Pour répondre à cet enjeu de développement, les prestataires logistiques 3PL traditionnels sont poussés à envisager de nouveaux modèles de fonctionnement. Ainsi, le modèle de 4PL apparait comme une opportunité d’évolution et d’innovation. Se pose alors la question de la transition d’un modèle opératoire à l’autre. Nous chercherons dans ce mémoire à identifier des lignes directrices concernant la marche à suivre pour effectuer la transition du 3PL au 4PL. Nous nous interrogerons en particulier sur la nature de l’offre de service devant être mise en place pour effectuer cette transition

Novel carboazidation reactions and applications

Cette thèse est axée sur le développement de la réaction de carboazidation radicalaire d'oléfines. Cette réaction permet la création de deux nouvelles liaisons C-C et C-N via un mécanisme radicalaire en chaîne. La propagation de la chaîne radicalaire requière toutefois l'emploi de dérivés toxiques de l'étain. De plus, l'isolement du produit final est difficile. Notre premier objectif a été d'améliorer cette réaction en développant la synthèse d'un nouveau iodoacétate supporté sur polystyrène conduisant à des réactions plus propres et à des produits purifiables par simple précipitation. Dans un deuxième temps, nous avons de veloppé une nouvelle version en solution sans étain basée sur l'utilisation de l'acétate d'azidosulfonyl d'éthyle, conduisant à des produits beaucoup plus aisément purifiables. Notre deuxième objectif a été d'utiliser la réaction de carboazidation pour la synthèse de nouvelles fonctions. Nous avons ainsi développé la synthèse de tétrazoles substitués en 1,5 par des chaînes alkyls, en une seule opéation par carboazidation radicalaire d'alcènes en présence de S-cyanomethyl O-ethyl carbonodithioate.
