    Los sistemas de evaluación en docencia para la carrera de medicina así como otras áreas y grados educativos desarrollados por la necesidad de saber si los estudiantes o residentes realmente están “aprendiendo”, si realmente adquieren los conocimientos, actitudes, competencias y valores necesarios para desalarse con éxito en su contexto geo social y para ser parte de una comunidad, han sido cuestionados al interior de su origen, estructura, así como a quienes los desarrollan y aplican debido a la frecuente disociación entre del contenido teórico y el práctico de la enseñanza, que han impedido una evaluación integral que por consiguiente no refleja el nivel real de aprendizaje del alumno en este caso, del médico en formación o graduado así como del especialista en formación (residente) quienes en sus diferentes etapas formativas han sido expuestos a subjetividad por parte del profesor. Estos procesos y métodos de evaluación con la aplicación de educación basada en competencias pueden mejorar la enseñanza y su evaluación en beneficio del estudiante, médico y usuario.Assessment systems in teaching for a career like medicine and other areas with different educational levels have been questioned within their origin, structure , those who developed and applied due to the frequent dissociation between the theoretical content and practical teaching, that have prevented a comprehensive assessment therefore does not reflect the actual level of student learning in this case, the physician in training or graduate and specialist training ( resident) who in their different stages of formation have been exposed to subjectivity by teacher .     Even lower latency in IIoT: evaluation of QUIC in industrial IoT scenarios

    In this paper we analyze the performance of QUIC as a transport alternative for Internet of Things (IoT) services based on the Message Queuing Telemetry Protocol (MQTT). QUIC is a novel protocol promoted by Google, and was originally conceived to tackle the limitations of the traditional Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), specifically aiming at the reduction of the latency caused by connection establishment. QUIC use in IoT environments is not widespread, and it is therefore interesting to characterize its performance when in over such scenarios. We used an emulation-based platform, where we integrated QUIC and MQTT (using GO-based implementations) and compared their combined performance with the that exhibited by the traditional TCP/TLS approach. We used Linux containers as end devices, and the ns-3 simulator to emulate different network technologies, such as WiFi, cellular, and satellite, and varying conditions. The results evince that QUIC is indeed an appropriate protocol to guarantee robust, secure, and low latency communications over IoT scenarios.The authors are grateful for the funding of the Industrial Doctorates Program from the University of Cantabria (Call 2020).     And QUIC meets IoT: performance assessment of MQTT over QUIC

    We study the performance of the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport Protocol (MQTT) over QUIC. QUIC has been recently proposed as a new transport protocol, and it is gaining relevance at a very fast pace, favored by the support of key players, such as Google. It overcomes some of the limitations of the more widespread alternative, TCP, especially regarding the overhead of connection establishment. However, its use for Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios is still under consideration. In this paper we integrate a GO-based implementation of the QUIC protocol with MQTT, and we compare the performance of this combination with that exhibited by the more traditional MQTT/TLS/TCP approach. We use Linux Containers and we emulate various wireless network technologies by means of the ns3 simulator.     Faster monitoring of the invasive alien species (IAS) Dreissena polymorpha in river basins through isothermal amplification

    Zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha) is considered as one of the 100 most harmful IAS in the world. Traditional detection methods have limitations, and PCR based environmental DNA detection has provided interesting results for early warning. However, in the last years, the development of isothermal amplification methods has received increasing attention. Among them, loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) has several advantages, including its higher tolerance to the presence of inhibitors and the possibility of naked-eye detection, which enables and simplifies its potential use in decentralized settings. In the current study, a real-time LAMP (qLAMP) method for the detection of Dreissena polymorpha was developed and tested with samples from the Guadalquivir River basin, together with two real-time PCR (qPCR) methods using different detection chemistries, targeting a specific region of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome C oxidase subunit I. All three developed approaches were evaluated regarding specificity, sensitivity and time required for detection.     Successful pandemic management through computer science: a case study of a financial corporation with workers on premises

    Background: In November 2019, an infectious agent that caused a severe acute respiratory illness was first detected in China. Its rapid spread resulted in a global lockdown with negative economic impacts. In this regard, we expose the solutions proposed by a multinational financial institution that maintained their workers on premises, so this methodology can be applied to possible future health crisis. Objectives: To ensure a secure workplace for the personnel on premises employing biomedical prevention measures and computational tools. Methods: Professionals were subjected to recurrent COVID-19 diagnostic tests during the pandemic. The sanitary team implemented an individual following to all personnel and introduced the information in databases. The data collected were used for clustering algorithms, decision trees, and networking diagrams to predict outbreaks in the workplace. Individualized control panels assisted the decision-making process to increase, maintain, or relax restrictive measures. Results: 55,789 diagnostic tests were performed. A positive correlation was observed between the cumulative incidence reported by Madrid’s Ministry of Health and the headcount. No correlation was observed for occupational infections, representing 1.9% of the total positives. An overall 1.7% of the cases continued testing positive for COVID-19 after 14 days of quarantine. Conclusion: Based on a combined approach of medical and computational science tools, we propose a management model that can be extended to other industries that can be applied to possible future health crises. This work shows that this model resulted in a safe workplace with a low probability of infection among workers during the pandemic

    Factors related with nursing students’ health literacy: a cross sectional study

    Nursing professionals have a crucial role in promoting health literacy in health services, so it is necessary to ensure health literacy skills in future health professionals.ObjectiveThe objective of the study was to examine the health literacy of nursing students and its associated factors.MethodsA cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on 460 nursing students. For data collection, a semi-structured questionnaire was obtained on sociodemographic characteristics, perception and health care, use of the health system and lifestyles. In addition, health literacy was assessed using the European Health Literacy Questionnaire.Results6.1% of the participants had an inadequate level of health literacy and 36.5% problematic. The probability of having sufficient health literacy is directly associated with age; and inversely with smoking, prolonged screen time and living alone (p < 0.05).Conclusion: A large percentage of nursing students need to improve their health literacy skills. It is necessary to integrate a greater number of contents in health literacy in the curriculum of nursing students
