Hotel rooftops as a space for consumption in historic centres: the case study of Palma (Spain)
This research analysed the transformation of hotel rooftops in the historic centre of Palma into new spaces for tourist consumption. Nowadays, tourists are looking for unique and special experiences, which has led tourist destinations to seek new attractions to offer. Rooftops are becoming privileged places and provide a differential experience, leading to an increase in the offer of tourist services on hotel rooftops. This study explored the change of use in hotel rooftops in historic city centres for the commercialization of tourism. In this sense, this research sheds light on the factors that influence the commodification of rooftops and the attributes that are most valued by users in Google Maps and TripAdvisor reviews of their experiences. Furthermore, the transformation of rooftops has not followed a single model of commodification, but different typologies were identified according to uses and access modalities. Finally, implications for the city’s tourism planning and management are presented.Partial funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málag
Estimates of heritabilities and genetic correlations of carcass quality traits in a reared gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) population sourced from three broodstocks
[ENG] Carcass quality traits have a direct influence on final product and consumer preferences, especially in species as seabream that are sold as whole fish. In this study the effect of the origin of the broodstock on carcass quality traits was studied. For this purpose, a population of farmed gilthead seabream obtained from broodstocks from three origins [Cantabrian Sea (CAN), the Atlantic Ocean (ATL), Mediterranean Sea (MED)] was analyzed for these traits at harvest size. Moreover, to estimate heritabilities and genetic correlations for carcass quality traits as well as their correlations with growth traits, a reconstruction of pedigree was carried out. The origin had an effect on several carcass traits. Fish from ATL showed the lowest visceral fat percentage and those form CAN the lowest condition factor. All carcass traits showed medium heritabilities (0.17-0.24) except dressing (0.07±0.05) and fillet (0.11±0.05) percentage. Due to their genetic correlations, selection on weight could lead to an increase in condition factor (0.47±0.21) but also to an undesirable increase in visceral fat (0.42±0.20) and a decrease in fillet yield (-0.58±0.09). Selection on length could improve dressing (0.87±0.07) and fillet weight (0.84±0.09). Alternatively, visceral fat content could be decreased by selection through condition factor (-0.46±0.16).This study was supported by the PROGENSA® project (Ref: PNMCM/GEN/09).
Previous reviews on dual careers (DC) provide findings on athletes in general, without reference to gender and perpetuating the under-representation of women. Therefore, this scoping review focuses only on sportswomen in order to get an overview of the current landscape of DC studies in women's sport. The methodology is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis statement and recommendations for scoping reviews. The bibliographic search was carried out in the databases: Web of Science, PsycINFO, Scopus, Pro-Quest and SPORTDiscus. Studies on DC with female participants and publications in scientific journals from 2012 onwards were included, and 19 articles were obtained for the analysis and synthesis of current research on women's sport and DC. The results reveal a progressive increase in publications on sportswomen and DC, a predominance of combining sport and studies, and a gap in studies on work-life balance and critical transitions in women's sport. This review makes visible and highlights the research carried out on DC and sportswomen, as well as the effect of androcentrism, gender roles and the lack of points of reference in the sporting context. Although it is evident that DC is inherent to women's sport, it has traditionally been studied and conceptualised based on male models. Therefore, research on this topic should be carried out in a holistic way, using models adapted to the realities of women's sport and consciously including the different modes of being a woma
Effect of the geographical origin on the presence of skeletal deformities and swimbladder anomaly in a cultured gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L) population. Estimation of genetic parameters
The gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) is one of the most important Sparid farmed
in Europe. However, abnormalities such us lordosis, lack of operculum and failure to
inflate the swimbladder constitute a major problem for aquaculture industry by
decreasing the final value of the fish. The use of stocks from different genetic origin to
produce commercial fish usually cause great variability in the global quality of the end
product. However, strategies that involve the development of selection schemes in
sea bream for these traits of economic interest are scarce. In light of these
circumstances, the effect of the geographical origin on the presence of anomalies as a
measure of fish quality was analyzed. For this purpose a population of farmed gilthead
sea bream obtained from broodstock from three differentiated geographical origin
and reared under common conditions was analyzed from X‐ray photograph for the
mayor anomalies present in this species. A posteriori reconstruction of pedigree was
carried out in order to determine genetic parameters for fish anomalies. An effect of
the geographical origin on the presence of skeletal malformation and on the lack of
functional swimbladder was found, being lordosis and lack of operculum the most
common skeletal deformities. Heritabilities were medium for lack of operculum and
lack of functional swimbladder and high for lordosis. A medium genetic correlation
and a positive phenotypic correlation were observed between the lack of functional
swimbladder and lordosis. All these findings could be relevant for the establishment
of successful breeding programs in aquaculture of this species. This study was supported by the PROGENSA®

Undifferentiated Wing Sarcoma in a Peach-Faced Lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis)
A 10-year-old peach-faced lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis) was evaluated for an ulcerated and painful mass at the location of a fracture 2 years previously. Whole body radiographs showed a humeral fracture with a presumptive neoplastic proliferation in the distal diaphysis. Right wing amputation was elected but the animal died during recovery from surgery. Histopathological examination of the amputated wing revealed an infiltrative sarcomatous neoplastic proliferation. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was carried out to characterize the tumour using antibodies against vimentin, desmin, smooth muscle actin (SMA), S-100, ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule-1 (IBA-1), CD18, cytokeratin and epithelial membrane antigen (EMA). The mesenchymal component of the mass was immunolabelled for vimentin and SMA and sparse epithelial cells were immunopositive for cytokeratin. Very few scattered cells were immunopositive for CD18 and IBA-1. The final diagnosis was consistent with an undifferentiated sarcoma with intralesional hyperplastic epithelium. According to the location, the history of a previous fracture and the histological pattern and IHC profile, the tumour was classified as an undifferentiated sarcoma with entrapped air sac epithelium.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A novel research is carried out on the relationships between tourism governance, touristification and the perception of the impacts generated in a consolidated urban destination such as Malaga. It proposes a measure of touristification and its impacts in terms of the spatial distribution of residents. To this end, 450 residents of the municipality were surveyed and 15 semi-structured
interviews were conducted. Factor analysis and qualitative content analysis were applied. The results show the link between governance and touristification and how this affects perceptions of economic, social and environmental impacts and place identity. In particular, place of residence (centre/periphery) influences perceptions related to touristification. The research was funded by the project: Adaptation strategies and alternatives from inland tourism destinations in times of change (ADAPTATUR) (PID2020- 114186RB-C22), Ministry of Science and Innovation, Government of Spain
'We are achieving this...Eliminating the violence and making us all Friends'. The power of friendships to generate peaceful coexistence in Sant Roc (Badalona)
This article analyses the contribution of friendship between members of different cultures to improving peaceful coexistence in a vulnerable neighbourhood. Specifically, it analyses the personal friendship between Said, a member of the Pakistani community, andTio Antonio, amember of the Roma community, as a turning point in improvingthe coexistence in a neighbourhood which had been experiencing conflictive situations and clashes between the residents for years, especially between the Roma and the Pakistani communities. This friendship has played a mediating role and served as an example for other friendships between members of the two communities, leading to the creation of a joined organization. This analysis contributes to the existing literature, where the role of personal friendship in the transformation of conflictive intercultural relations into peaceful, constructive ones has barely been explored
A Conflict into the University and the Origins of the Antilullian Repression in the Seminar of Majorca by Bishop Juan Díaz de la Guerra
This article, by commenting some umpublished sources, tries to study the origins of the Anti-Lullian repression in the Conciliar Seminar of Majorca by Bishop Juan Díaz de la Guerra (1772-1777). The repression started in a conflict between a student that opposed to the cult and doctrine of Ramon Llull and others that believed it.
Air Pollution and Birth Outcomes:Health Impact and Economic Value Assessment in Spain
Air pollution is considered an ongoing major public health and environmental issue around the globe, affecting the most vulnerable, such as pregnant women and fetuses. The aim of this study is to estimate the health impact and economic value on birth outcomes, such as low birthweight (LBW), preterm birth (PTB), small for gestational age (SGA), attributable to a reduction of PM10 levels in Spain. Reduction based on four scenarios was implemented: fulfillment of WHO guidelines and EU limits, and an attributable reduction of 15% and 50% in annual PM10 levels. Retrospective study on 288,229 live-born singleton children born between 2009-2010, using data from Spain Birth Registry Statistics database, as well as mean PM10 mass concentrations. Our finding showed that a decrease in annual exposure to PM10 appears to be associated with a decrease in the annual cases of LBW, SGA and PTB, as well as a reduction in hospital cost attributed to been born with LBW. Improving pregnancy outcomes by reducing the number of LBW up to 5% per year, will result in an estimate associated monetary saving of 50,000 to 7,000,000 euros annually. This study agrees with previous literature and highlights the need to implement, and ensure compliance with, stricter policies that regulate the maximum exposure to outdoor PM permitted in Spain, contributing to decreased environmental health risk, especially negative birth outcomes
