Los artículos de revisión en inglés en el ámbito de las ciencias de la salud : un esquema retórico ejemplar

Maestría en Inglés con Orientación en Lingüística AplicadaSince the appearance of Swales’ (1981, 1990) CARS model of analysis, there has been a great interest in untangling the way in which information is organized in research-process papers. In the latest years, a great number of researchers have been concerned with analyzing the rhetorical structure and the linguistic features of the canonical sections of the research article. However, little attention has been paid to analyzing the rhetorical structure of other emerging genres, as it is the case of the review article. The present study, thus, examines the rhetorical organization of information in the different sections of medical review articles written in English and proposes a template of move analysis for the three sections identified: Introduction, Development and Conclusion. The analysis was based on a corpus of thirty medical review articles published in a prestigious online journal, following conventional sampling procedures. Then, a move analysis was conducted applying the method proposed by Morales (2010). Finally, a template consisting of thirteen moves is suggested for the analysis of medical review articles written in English. Conociendo al personal de apoyo y los administrativos del CONICET: Un abordaje cuantitativo exploratorio sobre sus similitudes y diferencias en la actualidad

Hasta el día de la fecha existen diversos estudios y relevamientos sobre Investigadores y docentes y su labor en las diversas áreas de conocimiento existentes, sin embargo, poco se ha estudiado al personal que acompaña a estos en su tarea diaria y su caracterización demográfica. Su aparición en la literatura académica se limita a menciones de pocas líneas en trabajos dedicados ya sea al personal investigador o al personal estatal, pero nunca se ha destinado la extensión suficiente para discutir la clasificación de este tipo de personal o siquiera llegar a un consenso terminológico. Es por ello que se decidió realizar una investigación exploratoria para conocer más sobre esta figura de la ciencia: quiénes son, cómo se los denomina y cómo se caracterizan. Dado lo amplio del Sistema de Ciencia y Técnica argentino, se delimitó el abordaje al Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas en donde el personal no investigador se puede dividir en dos: Personal de Apoyo y personal administrativo o de gestión. Se parte de la definición de ambos roles y sus alcances, para luego adentrarse en las características demográficas de cada uno de ellos para así determinar cuáles son los factores comunes entre ellos y cuáles los diferencian.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

Profile of the professors in Library Science at three universities in Buenos Aires

This research was developed due to the absence of publications on the profile of professors in Library Science in Argentina. The goal is not only to have a current picture of the situation of academics at the university, but also to know the characteristics of the new job scenario, as well as to identify problems and opportunities. The analysis was carried out on the teaching population of the three institutions that grant the title of Professor of Librarianship in Argentina: Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, and Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. As a result, a set of characteristics shared by the teachers of the three universities was noted, which demonstrates the existence of a common profile.La presente investigación se desarrolló debido a la ausencia de publicaciones sobre el perfil del docente universitario de Bibliotecología y Ciencia de la Información en la Argentina. El objetivo buscado es no solo tener un panorama actual sobre la situación de los profesores en la universidad sino, además, conocer las características de los nuevos horizontes laborales, como así también identificar los problemas y las oportunidades. El análisis se llevó a cabo sobre la población docente de las tres instituciones que otorgan el título de Profesorado en Bibliotecología en Argentina: la Universidad de Buenos Aires, la Universidad Nacional de La Plata y la Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. Como resultado se advirtieron un conjunto de características compartidas por los docentes de las tres universidades, lo que evidencia la existencia de un perfil común

“Integration of role-play in the classroom to develop english language communication skills”

The English language teaching-learning process is currently in great demand, so it is necessary to use innovative methods and techniques that facilitate it, such as role-play, which is an active technique designed to promote the development of communication skills in students. This study was carried out due to the lack of information at the institutional level that reveals strategies that allow students to improve communication skills in the English language. The objective of the research was to analyze problems in speaking and students' opinions about role-play to motivate its implementation within the teaching-learning process of English as a foreign language for the development of communication skills (speech). A quantitative methodology was used since the main data collection instrument was the opinion survey applied to 20 A1 students from the Language Center of the Technical University of Cotopaxi. Regarding the results obtained, it is evident that there are difficulties such as fluency, grammar, and pronunciation when using the language in different activities or situations inside and outside the classroom, which are necessary skills to develop in this language. On the other hand, teachers do not frequently apply role play in their classes but use other activities. It was concluded that the use of role-playing is an entertaining technique that helps the development of communication skills, providing several benefits for student learning, but they do not like to get involved in activities to develop speaking skills since they believe they have difficulty communicating in the foreign language. In addition, it encourages the constant practice of the English language.El proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del idioma inglés actualmente tiene una gran demanda, por lo que es necesario utilizar métodos y técnicas innovadoras que lo faciliten, como el role-play, que es una técnica activa diseñada para promover el desarrollo de las habilidades comunicativas en los estudiantes. Este estudio se realizó debido a la falta de información a nivel institucional que revele estrategias que permitan a los estudiantes mejorar las habilidades comunicativas en el idioma inglés. El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar los problemas al hablar y las opiniones de los estudiantes sobre el juego de roles para motivar su implementación dentro del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera para el desarrollo de las habilidades comunicativas (habla). Se utilizó una metodología cuantitativa ya que el principal instrumento de recolección de datos fue la encuesta de opinión aplicada a 20 estudiantes A1 del Centro de Idiomas de la Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi. En cuanto a los resultados obtenidos, se evidencia que existen dificultades como fluidez, gramática y pronunciación al momento de utilizar el idioma en diferentes actividades o situaciones dentro y fuera del aula, las cuales son habilidades necesarias a desarrollar en este idioma. Por otro lado, los docentes no aplican con frecuencia el juego de roles en sus clases, sino que utilizan otras actividades. Se concluyó que el uso del juego de roles es una técnica entretenida que ayuda al desarrollo de las habilidades comunicativas, brindando varios beneficios para el aprendizaje de los estudiantes, pero no les gusta involucrarse en actividades para desarrollar la habilidad de hablar ya que creen que tienen dificultad para comunicarse. en el idioma extranjero. Además, fomenta la práctica constante del idioma inglés

Mitochondrial tRNA Valine in Cardiomyopathies

Mitochondrial respiratory chain disorders are a heterogeneous group of diseases that clinically involve multiple tissues although they tend to mainly affect nervous system and skeletal muscle. The predominance of neurologic and neuromuscular manifestations in mitochondrial diseases has generally masked the presence of other, but not less important, clinical phenotypes, such as cardiac complications. Nowadays, mitochondrial defects are being increasingly recognized to play an important role in the pathogenesis of a subgroup of cardiomyopathies produced by defects in the energetic metabolism (mitochondrial cardiomyopathies). These diseases can result from mutations in either nuclear or mitochondrial encoded genes although mitochondrial DNA mutations are more frequent. In fact, cardiac conduction abnormalities have been associated with different mtDNA rearrangements. In a same way, sporadic or inherited mutations in mitochondrial DNA specifically in the mitochondrial transfer ribonucleic acid genes (mostly in the tRNALeu(UUR) and tRNAIle) have also been associated with hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathy. Mitochondrial diseases caused by mutations in the mitochondrial tRNAVal gene (MT-TV) are not very frequent. However, a relatively high percentage of mutations in this gene have been associated with mitochondrial cardiomyopathy. Besides, functional and molecular analyses suggest that the MT-TV gene should be routinely considered in the diagnosis when there is a high suspicion of mitochondrial cardiomyopathy. Informe sobre el caso Damián Gallardo Martínez y otros c. México ante el Comité contra la Tortura de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas: La tortura utilizada como un instrumento de represión y mordaza a las personas defensoras de derechos humanos

La situación de las personas defensoras de derechos humanos en América Latina es alarmante puesto que es la región en donde se ha registrado el mayor número de personas defensoras asesinadas (933 asesinatos) en el periodo de 2015-2019 de acuerdo al Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos.1 La situación para las personas defensoras de derechos humanos en el Estado de México no se encuentra alejada de la realidad latinoamericana, es el caso del Sr. Damián Gallardo Martínez quien, el 18 de mayo de 2013, fue detenido arbitrariamente por agentes de la Policía Federal mientras se encontraba en su domicilio. Este fue el inicio de más de cinco años en los cuales el Sr. Gallardo fue víctima de actos de tortura por parte de agentes del Estado mientras transcurría su reclusión en un penal de máxima seguridad. El Sr. Gallardo y sus familiares son personas indígenas, y él es un defensor de derechos humanos que venia promoviendo la defensa del derecho a la educación de los pueblos indígenas. Ante la represión y criminalización, el Sr. Gallardo Martínez presentó una denuncia ante el Comité de las Naciones Unidas contra la Tortura (CAT por sus siglas en inglés) por las violaciones a la Convención contra la Tortura y Otros Tratos o Penas Crueles, Inhumanos o Degradantes (Convención contra la Tortura en adelante). Luego del examen de forma y de fondo, el CAT declaró la responsabilidad internacional del Estado de México por haber violado los derechos de Damián Gallardo Martínez previstos en los artículos 1, 2, 11, 12, 13, 14 y 15 de la Convención contra la Tortura

Combination of degradation pathways for naphthalene utilization in Rhodococcus sp. strain TFB

This is an open access article under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License.Rhodococcus sp. strain TFB is a metabolic versatile bacterium able to grow on naphthalene as the only carbon and energy source. Applying proteomic, genetic and biochemical approaches, we propose in this paper that, at least, three coordinated but independently regulated set of genes are combined to degrade naphthalene in TFB. First, proteins involved in tetralin degradation are also induced by naphthalene and may carry out its conversion to salicylaldehyde. This is the only part of the naphthalene degradation pathway showing glucose catabolite repression. Second, a salicylaldehyde dehydrogenase activity that converts salicylaldehyde to salicylate is detected in naphthalene-grown cells but not in tetralin- or salicylate-grown cells. Finally, we describe the chromosomally located nag genes, encoding the gentisate pathway for salicylate conversion into fumarate and pyruvate, which are only induced by salicylate and not by naphthalene.
