Tese de doutoramento, Medicina Dentária (Periodontologia), Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Medicina Dentária, 2016Objectives: To compare and evaluate the biomechanical, radiographic and histological behavior of zirconia and titanium implants placed into extraction sockets. Materials and methods: Five Beagle dogs received 15 titanium implants (Ti) and 15 zirconia implants (Zr) immediately placed into the distal socket of the second, third and fourth premolars. Implant stability and radiographic evaluation was performed at the time of implant placement and sacrifice. Animals were sacrificed at 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Peri-implant mucosa dimensions, marginal bone loss and bone-to-implant contact were evaluated. Kruskall-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test and Spearman correlation analysis were used when appropriate. Values of p .05). The buccal peri-implant mucosa ranged between 3.54 ± 0.23 mm (Zr) and 3.93 ± 0.49 mm (Ti) (p > .05). The buccal bone crest was located 1.53 ± 0.15 mm (Ti) and 1.55 ± 0.12 mm (Zr) (p > .05) below the implant shoulder (p = .05). The BIC, NBF and TBA were 59.4 ± 0.75 % (Ti) and 57.8 ± 2.26 % (Zr), 65.37 ± 3.05 % (Ti) and 63.63 ± 3.79 % (Zr), 77.97 ± 2.08 % (Ti) and 75.1 ± 2.31 % (Zr) respectively (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Even though zirconia implants exhibited less primary stability when compared to titanium implants they reach a similar degree of stability over time. Zirconia implants did not prevent the remodeling of the extraction socket. Zirconia implants rendered similar peri-implant soft tissue dimensions, ridge alterations and osseointegration when compared to titanium implants

A joint replenishment competitive location problem

Competitive Location Models seek the positions which maximize the market captured by an entrant firm from previously positioned competitors. Nevertheless, strategic location decisions may have a significant impact on inventory and shipment costs in the future affecting the firm’s competitive advantages. In this work we describe a model for the joint replenishment competitive location problem which considers both market capture and replenishment costs in order to choose the firm’s locations. We also present an metaherusitic method to solve it based on the Viswanathan’s (1996) algorithm to solve the Replenishment Problem and an Iterative Local Search Procedure to solve the Location Problem.N/

A regret model applied to the maximum coverage location problem with queue discipline

    Get PDF
This article discusses issues related to the location and allocation problems where is intended to demonstrate, through the random number generation, the influence of congestion of such systems in the final solutions. It is presented an algorithm that, in addition to the GRASP, incorporates the Regret with the pminmax method to evaluate the heuristic solution obtained in regard to its robustness for different scenarios. To the well know Maximum Coverage Location Problem from Church and Revelle [1] an alternative perspective is added in which the choice behavior of the server does not only depend on the elapsed time from the demand point looking to the center, but also includes the waiting time for service conditioned by a waiting queue.N/

This article addresses issues related to location and allocation problems. Herein, we intend to demonstrate the influence of congestion, through the random number generation, of such systems in final solutions. An algorithm is presented which, in addition to the GRASP, incorporates the Regret with the pminmax method to evaluate the heuristic solution obtained with regard to its robustness for different scenarios. Taking as our point of departure the Facility Location Problem proposed by Balinski [27], an alternative perspective is added associating regret values to particular solutions.N/

Evolution of Nursing Education in Portugal— a historical analysis of the Nursing School at the Hospital Geral de Santo António in Porto (1896-1947)

    Get PDF
The present study seeks to analyze the historical evolution of nursing education at the Hospital Geral de Santo António in Porto, during the period from the creation of the Nursing School in 1896 to the curricular standardization of nursing education in Portugal, introduced in 1947 by Decree-Law No. 36219. Using a qualitative methodology, this historical analysis of original documentation (the reports of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto and the statutes of the Nursing School) revealed a constant scientific updating of both the medical discipline and the concept of healthcare in Portuguese hospitals. A link is also established between the development of the medical profession and that of nursing and ancillary staff as a relevant factor for achieving the aim of improving the quality of care provided. The Nursing School was therefore created, based on the provision of training in medical treatment, the application of dressings, and the concepts of sepsis and antisepsis. In 1935, the course was reformulated and, under its new statutes, theoretical and practical disciplines were given a major role. Finally, in 1947, at the initiative of the government, the nursing curriculum was standardized throughout the whole of the national territory, thereby initiating a new phase in its existence. In this way, this Nursing School embarked upon a process of professional accreditation, forming more demanding curricula and responding to the constant needs of a changing society, of which that of the twentieth century is a good example.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Why consumers purchase organic products? The role of environment, health and age

    Get PDF
The market of green products is increasing all over the world, especially in food category that shows a great demand for biologic and organics. The aim of this study is to better understand the why consumers buy organic products, more specifically environmental concern, health consciousness and age The empirical evidence is based on an online survey, using a sample of 279, regular shoppers of organic products in Portugal and Spain. The results show there is a positive relation between environmental concern, health consciousness and green purchase behavior. Environmental concern is stronger than health to explain this relation. Also age is a predictor of green purchase behavior and older consumers with more than 35 years purchase more organics than younger consumers. For managers and marketers, the study enables to develop better marketing strategies to address these consumers and to enhance environmental concern, health and age to foster organics consumption

    Sampling system for LUCAS 2015

The sampling design of LUCAS 2015 took into account experience from previous campaigns. While remaining a Two-phase sampling scheme, efforts were focused in reducing the set of excluded points from the second phase sample, which are placed in difficult and inaccessible areas. This action was implemented both through: 1. the improvement of the first phase sample (LUCAS master sample) by updating each point of the grid with the most recent available information (NUTS borders, road network, elevation, Corine Land Cover results (CLC2006)) 2. the fine-tuning of the past rule for eligibility of the point introducing an additional new indicator of accessibility based on CLC; the final criteria combine all the auxiliary information [Elevation, Road distance, Slope, CLC indicator]. However excluded points will remain a likely source of bias which has to be treated separately from the field survey. The corresponding excluded area needs to be covered with a complementary photo-interpretation operation, including an ex-post photo-interpretation also for 2012 and 2009 surveys. Such a photo-interpretation task, although important and linked to the sampling exercise, is not addressed in this document but represents next priority for the future work.JRC.H.4-Monitoring Agricultural Resource
