Tags constitute a very useful tool for multimedia document indexing. This PhD thesis deals with automatic tagging, which consists in associating a set of tags to each song automatically, using an algorithm. We use boosting techniques to design a learning which better considers the complexity of the information expressed by music. A boosting algorithm is proposed, which can jointly use song descriptions associated to excerpts of different durations. This algorithm is used to fuse new descriptions, which belong to different abstraction levels. Finally, a new learning framework is proposed for automatic tagging, which better leverages the subtlety ofthe information expressed by music. Exploring new features for music classification
International audienceAutomatic music classification aims at grouping unknown songs in predefined categories such as music genre or induced emotion. To obtain perceptually relevant results, it is needed to design appropriate features that carry important information for semantic inference. In this paper, we explore novel features and evaluate them in a task of music automatic tagging. The proposed features span various aspects of the music: timbre, textual metadata, visual descriptors of cover art, and features characterizing the lyrics of sung music. The merit of these novel features is then evaluated using a classification system based on a boosting algorithm on binary decision trees. Their effectiveness for the task at hand is discussed with reference to the very common Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients features. We show that some of these features alone bring useful information, and that the classification system takes great advantage of a description covering such diverse aspects of songs

The Particle Based Moving Interface Method for Soft Matter Mechanics and Fluid/membrane Interactions with Applications to Biological Cells
The mechanics of the interaction between a fluid and a soft interface (such as an elastic membrane or shell) undergoing large deformations appears in many places, such as in biological systems or industrial processes. We present here an Eulerian approach that describes the mechanics of an interface and its interactions with a surrounding fluid via the so-called Navier boundary condition. The interface is modeled as a curvilinear surface with arbitrary mechanical properties across which discontinuities in pressure and tangential fluid velocity can naturally be enforced using a modified version of the extended finite element method. The tracking and evolution of the membrane is then handled with the Grid Based Particle method, and the handling of complex singular boundary conditions around sharp corner is accounted for with the use of an asymptotic/numerical matching method. We show that this method is ideal to describe large membrane deformations, enforce volume constraints, and Navier boundary conditions on the interface with velocity/pressure discontinuities. The method is applied to the study of the filtration of deformable particles through a fibrous network, and an the equivalent permeabilities with respect to the fluid and particles are estimated. The method is then adapted to the study of an elastic material in an Eulerian framework and is shown to be capable of handling arbitrarily large deformations, which is ideal for the study of biological problems
Flowtree: Enabling Distributed Flow Summarization at Scale

In particular, if these captures span long time periods or are collected at remote locations, storing or transferring them for analysis becomes increasingly expensive.
Enabling efficient execution of a large range of queries over ow captures while reducing storage and transfer volume requires working with mergeable succinct summaries that capture the most essential features of flows dynamically. However, the problem of building such structures is yet unmet. In this work, we introduce a self-adjusting data structure of generalized flows, called Flowtree, that (1) re- duces the storage requirements by more than 95% while providing highly accurate answers for popular hierarchical flows, (2) minimizes transfer cost of ow summaries, and (3) supports several operators with distributed execution and summarization across time and multiple sites. The evaluation of our solution on different network traces confirms that Flowtree can accurately and promptly answer questions about flows using different feature sets.EC/H2020/679158/EU/Resolving the Tussle in the Internet: Mapping, Architecture, and Policy Making/ResolutioNetDFG, FE 570/4-1, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz-Preis 2011BMBF, 01IS14013A, BBDC - Berliner Kompetenzzentrum fĂŒr Big Dat

The ever-larger tile sizes demanded by the market, the higher quality requirements, and the increasingly similar installation
to that of pressed products make it necessary to narrow the tolerance limits of final extruded tile size in order to maintain
the productâs competitiveness.
The results of this study show that, though mixing water has a great influence on drying shrinkage, it hardly affects extruded
tile firing shrinkage. This indicates that control of the water added in the extrusion process is indispensable in order avoid
variations in drying shrinkage and, thus, to assure good dimensional stability of the end produc
