Magic cards: a new augmented reality approach

    Get PDF
Augmented reality (AR) commonly uses markers for detection and tracking. Such multimedia applications associate each marker with a virtual 3D model stored in the memory of the camera-equipped device running the application. Application users are limited in their interactions, which require knowing how to design and program 3D objects. This generally prevents them from developing their own entertainment AR applications. The Magic Cards application solves this problem by offering an easy way to create and manage an unlimited number of virtual objects that are encoded on special markers

Trends in the Synthesis and Functionalization of Guaianolides

    Get PDF
Guaianolides constitute a large and diverse group of biologically active sesquiterpenes. Guaianolide and seco-guaianolides can also be used as, for example, scaffolds for the development of new active molecules that are readily accessible by synthetic methods. Nevertheless, these lactones often have complex structures that make their synthesis difficult. The aim of this microreview is to provide an overview of the developments in guaianolide synthesis by the two major synthetic strategies: semi-synthesis and total synthesis. Partial and total syntheses of guaianolides are described, with particular emphasis placed on the methods reported in the last decade. The methods discussed include rearrangements, cycloadditions, ring-closing metathesis, the use of transitionmetal catalysts, photochemical reactions, and other recently developed techniques as key steps

Measuring Emissions from a Demonstrator Heavy-Duty Diesel Vehicle under Real-World Conditions—Moving Forward to Euro VII

    No full text
The European Union (EU) has introduced since the early 1990s a series of progressively more stringent emission regulations to control air pollution from the transport sector, commonly known as Euro standards. Following this path, more recently, with the European Green Deal, the European Commission has indicated the intention to review the current air pollutant emissions standards. This study investigates the emission performance of an advanced demonstrator vehicle developed to meet the increasingly more stringent air pollution limits required. Emissions of currently regulated and unregulated components including NH3, N2O, and SPN10 (solid particle number), were studied in a very wide range of real-world operative conditions. The performance of two new generation portable instruments for the onboard measurement of N2O and NH3 were also evaluated in comparison with reference laboratory equipment. Similarly, the measurement accuracy of onboard NOx sensors was also compared to laboratory reference. The vehicle presented low emissions of NOx and NH3 and relatively low emissions of N2O, also compared to data currently available in the literature, in a broad range of operative conditions, which however resulted in a large variability in emissions
