The Mobile Data Challenge: Big Data for Mobile Computing Research

    Get PDF
This paper presents an overview of the Mobile Data Challenge (MDC), a large-scale research initiative aimed at generating innovations around smartphone-based research, as well as community-based evaluation of related mobile data analysis methodologies. First we review the Lausanne Data Collection Campaign (LDCC) an initiative to collect unique, longitudinal smartphone data set for the basis of the MDC. Then, we introduce the Open and Dedicated Tracks of the MDC; describe the specific data sets used in each of them; and discuss some of the key aspects in order to generate privacy-respecting, challenging, and scientifically relevant mobile data resources for wider use of the research community. The concluding remarks will summarize the paper

Tetralogia de Fallot no Brasil: compreendendo a existência

Introduction: Tetralogy of Fallot involves four specific heart problems. Firstly, there is pulmonary stenosis, characterized by the narrowing of the pathway that carries blood from the heart to the lungs, hindering blood flow. Right ventricular hypertrophy is another characteristic, where the muscle of the right ventricle of the heart becomes thicker due to increased workload caused by pulmonary stenosis. Methodology: The present study adopted a descriptive epidemiological approach with the aim of analyzing cases of Tetralogy of Fallot among live births in Brazil from 2012 to 2021. Data collection utilized the Live Birth Information System (SINASC), made available by DATASUS. Results: In the group of individuals born with Tetralogy of Fallot, the analysis of variables reveals valuable information about demographic characteristics and perinatal conditions. Regarding the "Race/Ethnicity" variable, out of the 943 cases registered, 588 (62.35%) were classified as white, 51 (5.41%) as black, 10 (1.06%) as yellow, 267 (28.31%) as brown, and 27 (2.86%) had race/ethnicity recorded as unknown. Conclusion: A profound understanding of congenital heart diseases not only saves lives but also significantly improves the quality of life for affected individuals.

All-sky search for gravitational-wave bursts in the second joint LIGO-Virgo run

We present results from a search for gravitational-wave bursts in the data collected by the LIGO and Virgo detectors between July 7, 2009 and October 20, 2010: data are analyzed when at least two of the three LIGO-Virgo detectors are in coincident operation, with a total observation time of 207 days. The analysis searches for transients of duration < 1 s over the frequency band 64-5000 Hz, without other assumptions on the signal waveform, polarization, direction or occurrence time. All identified events are consistent with the expected accidental background. We set frequentist upper limits on the rate of gravitational-wave bursts by combining this search with the previous LIGO-Virgo search on the data collected between November 2005 and October 2007. The upper limit on the rate of strong gravitational-wave bursts at the Earth is 1.3 events per year at 90% confidence. We also present upper limits on source rate density per year and Mpc^3 for sample populations of standard-candle sources. As in the previous joint run, typical sensitivities of the search in terms of the root-sum-squared strain amplitude for these waveforms lie in the range 5 10^-22 Hz^-1/2 to 1 10^-20 Hz^-1/2. The combination of the two joint runs entails the most sensitive all-sky search for generic gravitational-wave bursts and synthesizes the results achieved by the initial generation of interferometric detectors.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures: data for plots and archived public version at https://dcc.ligo.org/cgi-bin/DocDB/ShowDocument?docid=70814&version=19, see also the public announcement at http://www.ligo.org/science/Publication-S6BurstAllSky

Análise dos Fatores Que Influenciam a Intenção de Uso do M-Commerce por Americanos da Geração Millennial

Over the last few years, there has been an increase in m-commerce (mobile commerce) sales by means of smartphones, which has had a significant impact on the electronic commerce of the countries. Thus, there is a need to investigate the factors that influence users’ Intention to Use m-commerce. Through an adaptation of the UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology) model, this study looked at the factors that affect the Usage Intention of Americans. The results reaffirm the relationship between the Expectation of Performance and the Facilitating Conditions in the Intention to Use. Besides, it confirmed the relationship between the Expectation of Performance and the Expectation of Effort, as well as between the Expectations of Effort in the Facilitating Conditions. Finally, it presents the moderating effect of age between social influence and the Intention to Use mobile m-commerce.
