Measurement of direct CP violation by the NA48 experiment at CERN

    Get PDF
The NA48 experiment at CERN has performed a measurement of direct CP violation in the neutral kaon system, based on data collected in 1997 and 1998. The preliminary result for the parameter ℜ(ϵ′/ϵ)\Re(\epsilon^{\prime}/\epsilon) is (14.0±4.3)×10−4(14.0 \pm 4.3) \times 10^{-4}.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures To be published in the proceedings of 30th International Symposium on Multiparticle Dynamics (ISMD 2000), Tihany, Lake Balaton, Hungary, 9-15 Oct 200

Flavour physics in the LHC era

These lectures give a topical review of heavy flavour physics, in particular \CP violation and rare decays, from an experimental point of view. They describe the ongoing motivation to study heavy flavour physics in the LHC era, the current status of the field emphasising key results from previous experiments, some selected topics in which new results are expected in the near future, and a brief look at future projects.Comment: 34 pages, 13 figures. Lectures given at the 69th Scottish Universities Summer School in Physics in St. Andrews, UK, 2012. v2 with minor corrections for proof

Dynamics of a system of sticking particles of a finite size on the line

The continuous limit of large systems of particles of finite size on the line is described. The particles are assumed to move freely and stick under collision, to form compound particles whose mass and size is the sum of the masses and sizes of the particles before collision, and whose velocity is determined by conservation of linear momentum.Comment: 15 page
