Começámos por estabelecer a articulação entre os conceitos de educação, pedagogia social e educação social para depois refletirmos e fundamentarmos sobre a construção profissional, e da profissionalidade, dos Técnicos Superiores de Educação Social. Assente num reconhecimento da importância da “educação/aprendizagem ao longo da vida” defendemos a importância da intervenção socioeducativa e desafiámos as políticas educativas e sociais a promoverem um efetivo desenvolvimento humano

    Positive Youth Development and Wellbeing: Gender Differences

    The five C’s of positive youth development (PYD) (competence, confidence, character, caring, and connection) have been associated with adaptive development among young people. Gender differences in young people’s wellbeing and mental health have been studied and analyzed, but the investigation into their association with the five C’s is still in its infancy. In the present study, we analyzed the influence of the five C’s on the wellbeing, more specifically, anxiety, social alienation, general wellbeing, physical symptoms, and psychological symptoms, of Portuguese adolescents, by gender. Participants were 5th–12th grade students attending public schools in Lisbon, Portugal. The questionnaire was administered to 384 adolescents. The results indicated important gender differences in young people’s wellbeing. The results revealed some differences between genders that should be considered in interventions that aim to promote the wellbeing of adolescents. On the other hand, confidence was positively associated with mental health and wellbeing for both boys and girls, skill should be promoted among young people, because it was competence that revealed the greatest association with wellbeing, among the variables analyzed.publishedVersio

    Positive Youth Development: The 5 C´s effect in a School environment

    A positive youth development perspective focuses on recognizing psychosocial strengths and providing social environments that contribute to the adolescent’s development. The school context is where adolescents spend most of their time and where they develop most of their competencies. It is important to understand how these competencies can be promoted and how they can influence your well-being. The study aimed was to analyse the impact of the PYD 5 C´s on Portuguese adolescents in their school environment. Participants were students between 5th grade and 12th grade that attend public schools. The questionnaire was administered to 384 adolescents. The results indicated the importance of 5 C’s supporting to promote positive interpersonal relationships and, consequently for the adolescent’s well-being. Our research revealed that adolescents feelings in school environment are essentially influenced by their own competencesLa perspectiva del Desarrollo Positivo Juvenil (DPJ) se centra en reconocer las fortalezas psicosociales y fomentar los entornos sociales que contribuyan al buen desarrollo del adolescente. El contexto escolar es donde los adolescentes pasan la mayor parte de su tiempo y donde desarrollan la mayor parte de sus competencias. Es importante comprender cómo se pueden promover estas competencias y cómo pueden influir en su bienestar. El estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el impacto de las 5 Cs de DPJ en los adolescentes portugueses en su entorno escolar. Los participantes fueron estudiantes de educación primaria y secundaria que asisten a escuelas públicas. El cuestionario se administró a 384 adolescentes. Los resultados indicaron la importancia del apoyo de las 5 Cs para promover relaciones interpersonales positivas y, en consecuencia, para promocionar el bienestar del adolescente. Nuestra investigación reveló que los sentimientos de los adolescentes en el entorno escolar están primcipalmente influidos por sus propias competencia

    Validação da Escala de Resiliência de Wagnild & Young para a população portuguesa

    O presente estudo visa a validação da escala psicométrica de resiliência desenvolvida por Wagnild & Young para a população portuguesa a partir da validação preliminar desenvolvida por Vara e Sani (2006). A escala a validar é composta por 25 afirmações que requerem o posicionamento do inquirido entre 7 pontos da escala de Likert. A validação psicométrica do questionário de resiliência de Wagnild & Young desenvolveu-se a partir da Análise Fatorial Exploratória onde foram identificadas as dimensões mais significativas que a escala apresenta através do estudo da confiabilidade e da Análise Fatorial Confirmatória. Utilizando uma amostra de 313 inquiridos, analisou-se a confiabilidade da escala e a validação do construto obteve-se a partir da análise fatorial, utilizando o coeficiente Alpha de Cronbach para avaliação da consistência interna da escala. Determinaram-se como fatores: satisfação com a vida (F1), planificação-disciplina (F2) e independência (F3) e verificou-se uma correlação média positiva entre os 3 fatores. A análise fatorial confirmatória apresentou valores ótimos de índice de ajuste Comparativo (.988) e da Raíz da Média dos Quadrados dos Erros de Aproximação (.025), pelo que concluímos que estamos perante um ótimo ajuste ao modelo. Globalmente, os valores dos principais indicadores globais de ajustamento do modelo resultantes da análise fatorial confirmatória expressam a sua qualidade. Como valores de consistência interna dos três fatores recorreu-se ao coeficiente de Alpha de Cronbach obtendo-se os valores ótimos de .798 (escala geral), .747 no fator 1 «satisfação com a vida», .712 no fator 2 «planificação – disciplina» e .632 no fator 3 «independência».The present study aims to validate the psychometric scale resilience developed by Wagnild & Young for the Portuguese population from the preliminary validation developed by Vara and Sani (2006). The scale consists of 25 validate assertions that require the placement of respondent between 7 points Likert scale. Psychometric validation of the resiliency Wagnild & Young questionnaire was developed from the exploratory factor analysis where the most significant dimensions that scale features through the study of reliability and confirmatory factor analysis were identified. Using a sample of 313 respondents, we analyzed the scale reliability and construct validation was obtained from the factor analysis, using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for internal consistency of the scale. Were determined as factors: satisfaction with life (F1),planning discipline (F2) and independence (F3) and there was a positive correlation between the average three factors. Confirmatory factor analysis showed excellent index values Comparative (.988) adjustment and the Root Mean Squares of Errors of Approximation (.025), so we conclude that this is an optimal fit to the model. Overall, the values of the key indicators of overall fit of the model resulting from the confirmatory factor analysis to express its quality.     Atitudes e coping proactivo no consumo de substâncias na adolescência

    O presente estudo foca-se sobre o papel da atitude proactiva, assim como das atitudes de predisposição, índice de desagrado e percepção de satisfação no consumo de substâncias. Para isso, os autores recorreram a uma amostra de 418 alunos do ensino secundário, utilizando a Escala de Atitude Proactiva (Schwarzer,1999), que permite avaliar a percepção de recursos, com implicações para a motivação e acção, a Escala de Coping Proactivo (Greenglass, Schwarzer, & Taubert, 1999), e as Escalas de Atitudes em Relação ao Tabaco, Álcool e Drogas (García del Castillo & López, 2003), que permitem avaliar a atitude de predisposição, índice de desagrado e percepção de satisfação pelos consumos. Os resultados permitem perceber algumas diferenças de género nas atitudes e nos cursos frequentados, excepto na atitude e coping proactivo, e uma relação negativa entre a idade e atitudes em relação às drogas. Verificaram-se também diferenças na atitude de predisposição, índice de desagrado e percepção de satisfação sobre o consumo das substâncias de tabaco, álcool e drogas (marijuana, cocaína, crack e outros tipos de drogas). As atitudes e coping proactivas não se revelaram significativas na experiência, idade da primeira experiência ou intensidade do consumo. Apesar da relação entre atitude e coping proactivo com as atitudes em relação ao consumo de substâncias, não se verificou esta relação com o consumo. As implicações dos resultados são discutidas criticamente.This study aims to explore the role of proactive attitudes, as well as the predisposition attitudes, displeasure index and perceived satisfaction in substance use. To do that, the authors relied on a sample of 418 secondary school students using the Proactive Attitude Scale (Schwarzer, 1999), which evaluates the perception of resources, with implications for motivation and action, the Proactive Coping Scale (Greenglass, Schwarzer,& Taubert, 1999), and the Attitudes Toward Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs Scales (García del Castillo &López, 2003), which measure the attitude of willingness, displeasure index and perceived satisfaction with substance use. The results allow us to understand some gender differences in attitudes and courses taken, except in the proactive attitude and coping, and a negative relationship between age and attitudes towards drugs. There were also differences in attitude predisposition, displeasure index and perceived satisfaction with the substances as tobacco, alcohol and drugs (marijuana, cocaine, crack and other drugs). Proactive attitudes and coping did not revealed significant role in experience, onset age or intensity of consumption. Although the relationship between attitude and proactive coping with attitudes toward substance use, this relationship did not exist with consumption. Publisher Copyright: © 2023 by the authors.The development of innovative/sustainable materials capable of enlarging the shelf-life of food products has lately been a focus of research, aiming to reduce food waste. Due to their good antimicrobial properties, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) can add activity to food packaging, improving its performance. Furthermore, these nanoparticles are considered GRAS by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which represents an advantage in their application. Through an innovative and sustainable approach using tomato and passionfruit extracts, ZnO NPs were produced and incorporated into pectin films. The resulting bionanocomposites were tested for their activity via in situ studies, using fresh poultry meat as a food matrix. Overall, the bionanocomposites presented good antimicrobial activity, with the intrinsic antimicrobial properties of pectin having shown to be enhanced by the incorporated ZnO NPs. When used as primary packaging for the meat, the deterioration rate of the poultry meat, measured through microbiological growth and total volatile basic nitrogen content, was reduced. However, the nanoparticles contributed to the increment of discoloration and meat oxidation processes. Nonetheless, it can be concluded that fresh poultry meat protected with the bionanocomposites presented an extension of its shelf-life time, and it was confirmed that this eco-friendly packaging has potential to be employed by the food industry.publishersversionpublishe

    La investigación realizada en el ámbito del Doctorado en Psicología de la Salud pretende comprender la influencia que los factores psicológicos resiliencia e inteligencia emocional tienen en el estado de salud de los individuos, en lo que concierne a la gestión del estrés y al consumo de alcohol. El análisis predictivo del Consumo de Alcohol y nivel de Estrés, mediante las variables psicosociales Inteligencia Emocional y Resiliencia, en la población portuguesa, se realizó a partir de una muestra de 313 participantes. Se realizó la validación psicométrica del cuestionario de resiliencia de Wagnild y Young, así como el cálculo de las correlaciones entre las diferentes variables, cuyo objetivo era efectuar modelos de regresiones lineares simples y múltiplos. Los resultados nos indican que la Resiliencia correlaciona positivamente con la Inteligencia Emocional y negativamente con el Estrés y con el Consumo de Alcohol, siendo las mujeres más resilientes que los hombres. La Inteligencia Emocional, para los individuos de más de 30 años, presenta valores estadísticos significativamente superiores. Los datos evidencian que los hombres consumen más alcohol que las mujeres y que el consumo de alcohol es menor en personas más jóvenes. Sobre los índices de Estrés, se verifica que estos tienden a ser más bajos en personas mayores y que la correlación entre la Inteligencia Emocional y el Estrés es negativa. La Inteligencia Emocional y la Resiliencia presentan una correlación negativa con el Consumo de Alcohol y se demuestra que, para los hombres, el consumo de alcohol está influenciado por la Inteligencia Emocional. Destaca el hecho de que la Inteligencia Emocional y la Resiliencia actúan como factores protectores sobre el Consumo de Alcohol debiendo, así, ser potenciadas desde temprano por acciones educativas preventivas. Los resultados obtenidos refuerzan la necesidad de adecuar los modelos y estrategias de intervención socioeducativa al individuo, privilegiándolo en sus dimensiones biopsicosociales. Es notorio que la inteligencia emocional y la resiliencia actúan como factores protectores sobre el consumo de alcohol y que, por eso, deben ser potenciados desde temprano a partir de una educación preventiva

O consumo de álcool pelos jovens e os problemas ligados ao álcool têm sido uma preocupação crescente em Portugal e no Mundo. Na origem destes consumos surgem inúmeros motivos, entre os quais, a frustração das necessidades psicológicas básicas (NPB), situação propícia à adoção de comportamentos compensatórios face à frustração, como o consumo de álcool. Na prevenção destes comportamentos e para a satisfação das NPB, em muito pode contribuir, pelas suas caraterísticas inerentes, a Pedagogia Social, a Educação Social e a Educação Não Formal (ENF), conceitos que se interligam e associam percetivelmente. Neste artigo apresenta-se então um estudo que analisou os contributos que uma intervenção com base na ENF traz à satisfação das NPB e à diminuição dos padrões de consumo dos jovens. El consumo de alcohol entre los jóvenes y los problemas con el alcohol han sido una preocupación creciente en Portugal y en todo el mundo. El origen de estos consumos surgen numerosas razones, entre ellas, la frustración de las necesidades básicas psicológicas (NPB), situación propicia para la adopción de comportamientos compensatorios en la cara de frustración, como el consumo de alcohol. En la prevención de estas conductas y para la satisfacción de la NPB, pueden contribuir en gran medida, por sus características inherentes, Pedagogía Social, Educación Social y Educación Formal no (ENF), los conceptos están interrelacionados y la asociada perceptiblemente. En este trabajo se presenta a continuación un estudio que examinó las aportaciones que una intervención basada en ENF trae la satisfacción de NPB y la disminución en los patrones de consumo de los jóvenes. La consommation d'alcool par les jeunes et leurs problèmes liée a l'alcool ont été une grande préoccupation qui augment au Portugal et dans le tier monde. L'origine de ces consommations est dû a de nombreuses raison, parmis elles, la frustration des besoins psychologique fondamentaux (BPF), la situation est popre à adopter des comportements compensatoir face à cette frustration, comme la consomation d’alcool. Dans la prévention de ces comportements et pour la satisfaction de la BPF, beaucoup peuvent contribuer, grâce a leur caractéristique intrinsèques, à la Pédagogie Social, à l’Education Social ainsi qu’a l’Education non formelles (ENF), des concepts qui sont liées et associé entre eux.
