    Get PDF

Embedding fragment ab initio model potentials in CASSCF/CASPT2 calculations of doped solids: implementation and applications

In this article, we present a fragment model potential approach for the description of the crystalline environment as an extension of the use of embedding ab initio model potentials (AIMPs). The biggest limitation of the embedding AIMP method is the spherical nature of its model potentials. This poses problems as soon as the method is applied to crystals containing strongly covalently bonded structures with highly nonspherical electron densities. The newly proposed method addresses this problem by keeping the full electron density as its model potential, thus allowing one to group sets of covalently bonded atoms into fragments. The implementation in the MOLCAS 7.0 quantum chemistry package of the new method, which we call the embedding fragment ab inito model potential method (embedding FAIMP), is reported here, together with results of CASSCF/CASPT2 calculations. The developed methodology is applied for two test problems: (i) the investigation of the lowest ligand field states (2)A(1) and B-2(1) of the Cr(V) defect in the YVO4 crystal and (ii) the investigation of the lowest ligand field and ligand-metal charge transfer (LMCT) states at the Mn(II) substitutional impurity doped into CaCO3. Comparison with similar calculations involving AIMPs for all environmental atoms, including those from covalently bounded units, shows that the FAIMP treatment of the YVO4 units surrounding the CrO43- cluster increases the excitation energy B-2(1) -> (2)A(1) by ca. 1000 cm(-1) at the CASSCF level of calculation. In the case of the Mn(CO3)(6)(10-) cluster, the FAIMP treatment of the CO32- units of the environment give smaller corrections, of ca. 100 cm(-1), for the ligand-field excitation energies, which is explained by the larger ligands of this cluster. However, the correction for the energy of the lowest LMCT transition is found to be ca. 600 cm(-1) for the CASSCF and ca. 1300 cm(-1) for the CASPT2 calculation

Doped GeSe materials for selector applications

    Get PDF
We report on the thermal and electrical performance of nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) doped GeSe thin films for selector applications. Doping of GeSe successfully improved its thermal stability to 450 degrees C. N doping led to a decrease in the off-state leakage and an increase in threshold voltage (V-th), while C doping led to an increase in leakage and reduced V-th. Hence, we show an effective method to tune the electrical parameters of GeSe selectors by using N and C as dopants

Isotopic values of the Amazon headwaters in Peru: comparison of the wet upper Río Madre de Dios watershed with the dry Urubamba-Apurimac river system

RATIONALE: The Amazon River is a huge network of long tributaries, and little is known about the headwaters. Here we present a study of one wet tropical Amazon forest side, and one dry and cold Atiplano plateau, originating from the same cordillera. The aim is to see how this difference affects the water characteristics. METHODS: Different kind of water (spring, lake, river, rainfall) were sampled to determine their stable isotopes ratios (oxygen 18/16 and hydrogen 2/1) by continuous flow isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). These ratios coupled with chemical analysis enabled us to determine the origin of the water, the evaporation process and the water recycling over the Amazon plain forest and montane cloud forest. RESULTS: Our study shows that the water flowing in the upper Madre de Dios basin comes mainly from the foothill humid forest, with a characteristic water recycling process signature, and not from higher glacier melt. On the contrary, the water flowing in the Altiplano Rivers is mainly from glacier melts, with a high evaporation process. This snow and glacier are fed mainly by Atlantic moisture which transits over the large Amazon forest. CONCLUSIONS: The Atlantic moisture and its recycling over this huge tropical forest display a progressive isotopic gradient, as a function of distance from the ocean. At the level of the montane cloud forest and on the altiplano, respectively, additional water recycling and evaporation occur, but they are insignificant in the total water discharge

Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, The 6th International Medical Congress for Students and Young Doctors, May 12-14, 2016Introduction: Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy is a genetic disease, autosomal dominant, characterized by ventricular myocardial hypertrophy, predominantly of the interventricular septum, with variable prodromes, often tempered, but involving a high incidence of sudden death. Global morbidity in adult society is averaging between 0.02-0.023%. In Moldova a complex surgical approaches in the treatment of HOCM has a history of about 5 years. It is steadily improving surgical techniques, being in touch with international protocols. The aim of study: Presentation of national standards for complex surgical treatment of HOCM, familiarizing specialists from related fields of cardiac surgery (cardiologists, radiologists, general doctors), regarding the possibilities of surgical correction of HOCM. Material and methods: During 2011-2016, in the Republican Clinical Hospital and International Hospital Medpark underwent surgery 32 patients, average age - 52.3 years. Postoperative period complicated with ischemic stroke - 1 patient, postoperative hemorrhage - 1 patient. The mean duration of hospitalization was 9.5 days. Conclusions: The latest medical literature, relying on complex randomized studies unanimously are telling us that "gold" standard in HOCM treatment remains only radical surgical. The surgical approach in HOCM in combination with complex valvular correction, solves the problem of TEVS obstruction, but also decrease systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve and abolish it regurgitation

water is essential to the human body. Mineral waters can act against deficiency of minerals. There are large deposits of calcium, magnesium, and even fluoride in them. Mineral water consumption in Moldova in 2008 was 36 liters per person. Hydrogen carbonate and magnesium mineral waters are the largest consumption in Green Hills supermarket. The most sold is bottled mineral water in a volume of 1.5 liters (47%). Carbonated mineral waters consists 50% of the store-, followed by 39% natural water and 11% weakly mineralized waters. The larges range in Green Hills supermarket are mineralized waters 50%, followed by weakly mineralized waters (29%) and very weakly mineralized with a quota of only 21%
