Sustainable Supply Chain Management with NGOs, NPOs, and Charity Organizations: A Systematic Review and Research Agenda

    Get PDF
With the gradually increased awareness of sustainability development, external organizations, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), non-profit organizations (NPOs), and charity organizations, play an increasingly crucial role in sustainable supply chain management (SSCM). The participation of external organizations not only helps the firms to improve reputation, but also regulates and improves their SSCM. Based on this motivation, we identify the major research domains and examine each domain's evolution by using the objective review methods, including Citation Network Analysis and Main Path Analysis in this literature review paper. Five research domains are recognized, namely, “sustainable supply chain framework design”, “supply chain coordination/collaboration”, “closed-loop supply chain”, “regulation”, and “subsidy and donation”. We review the most influential papers in each research domain to show the evolution of these studies. Based on our review findings, we successfully propose four future research agendas with eight specific issues and innovatively establish a new research framework. The outputs of this review paper can guide the researchers on future search topics and contribute to the development of SSCM with the consideration of organizations.</p

ISO 9000 and supply chain efficiency: Empirical evidence on inventory and account receivable days

ISO 9000 is the most popular and widely adopted meta-standard for quality and operational improvements in manufacturing supply chains. However, few studies have quantitatively examined its impact on supply chain efficiency. In this paper we measure the material and cash flow efficiency of ISO 9000 certified firms in terms of inventory days and account receivable days. We analyzed changes in these time-based efficiency indicators prior and after ISO 9000 implementation in 695 US-listed manufacturing firms. We found that ISO 9000 certified firms shortened the number of inventory days by 3.68 days 1 year after ISO 9000 implementation. They showed continuous improvement and shortened the number of inventory days by 8.75 days (8.29% shorter) 3 years after certification. Account receivable days and overall operating cycle time also showed similar significant reductions after ISO 9000 implementation. The results reveal that ISO 9000 adoption helps improve the material and cash flows in manufacturing supply chains.ISO 9000 Supply chain efficiency Event study

Meta-standards, financial performance and senior executive compensation in China: An institutional perspective

    No full text
We examine the relationships between number of business certifications and financial performance and senior executive compensation in Chinese manufacturing companies. The results show that the number of certifications obtained by a firm is significantly correlated with the compensation of the firm's senior management, but not with the firm's financial performance. We also find that ISO 9000, when adopted for the sake of meeting market institutional expectations, increases the operating cycle time of the certified firm. Our findings offer a clue to the cause of the popularity of meta-standards in China--executives adopt popular management techniques under an institutionalized environment to enhance their personal legitimacy, despite that the techniques may not necessarily improve firm performance.Meta-standards ISO 9000 Institutional theory Financial performance Senior executive compensation
