A new manual wheelchair propulsion system with self-locking capability on ramps

A wheelchair user faces many difficulties in their everyday attempts to use ramps, especially those of some length. The present work describes the design and build of a propulsion system for manual wheelchairs for use in ascending or descending long ramps. The design is characterized by a self-locking mechanism that activates automatically to brake the chair when the user stops pushing. The system consists of a planetary transmission with a self-locking capacity coupled to a push rim with which the user moves the system. Different transmission ratios are proposed, adapted to the slope and to the user’s physical capacity (measured as the power the user can apply over ample time periods). The design is shown to be viable in terms of resistance, and approximate dimensions are established for the height and width of the propulsion system. DOES THE EXCHANGE RATE PASS-THROUGH INTO PRICES CHANGE WHEN INFLATION TARGETING IS ADOPTED? THE PERUVIAN CASE STUDY BETWEEN 1994 AND 2007

This paper analyzes whether the exchange rate pass-through into prices changed when the inflation targeting scheme was adopted in Peru. Firstly, a small dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model is simulated, which shows that adopting this scheme induces an increase in exchange rate volatility. Furthermore, applying the theory of the currency denomination of international trade, it is demonstrated that increased exchange rate volatility reduces the share of firms that set their prices in foreign currency (dollars). Given that the pass-though has a direct relationship with this share, it is shown that adopting inflation targeting generates a pass-through contraction. Secondly, we empirically test whether the Peruvian Central Bank’s decision to adopt inflation targeting in January 2002 actually had an effect on the pass-through estimating a time-varying vector autoregressive model which allows for an asymmetrical estimation of the pass-through. It provides parameters for both the pre and post inflation targeting regimes based on the assumption that the transition from one regime to the other is smooth. An analysis of the generalized impulse response functions reveals that the decision to adopt inflation targeting significantly decreased the exchange rate pass-throughs into import, producer, and consumer prices. Aquest article presenta una proposta d'elaboració d'un corpus ad hoc paral·lel multilingüe, dividida clarament en una sèrie de fases. També es mostren els avantatges i inconvenients a l'hora de compilar un corpus d'aquestes característiques, incidint sobretot en la fase d'alineació dels bitextos, quelcom imprescindible per aquest tipus de corpus.Este artículo presenta una propuesta de elaboración de un corpus ad hoc paralelo multilingüe, dividida claramente en una serie de fases. Por otro lado, se muestran las ventajas e inconvenientes a la hora de compilar un corpus de estas características, incidiendo sobre todo en la fase de alineación de los bitextos, imprescindible para este tipo de corpus.This article proposes an approach, in clearly distinguished stages, to creating an ad hoc multilingual parallel corpus. Factores psicopedagógicos que inciden en el desempeño docente carrera de Enfermería, UCAN-Estelí 2017

La presente investigación sobre “Influencia de los factores psicopedagógicos que inciden en el desempeño docente, de la carrera de Enfermería, Facultad de Ciencias Médicas UCAN-Estelí-2017, tiene como objetivo analizar la influencia de los factores psicopedagógicos en el desempeño docente de la carrera de enfermería. Como muestra se consideraron a 11 profesionales del personal académico, dos directivos seleccionados por conveniencia y una muestra probabilística de 50 estudiantes de enfermería. Se estudiaron los factores pedagógicos y psicológicos y la evaluación al desempeño para la mejora de la práctica educativa. El diseño utilizado fue mixto de corte transversal, abarcando el periodo del II trimestre 2017 y un modelo pedagógico constructivista, se utilizaron las técnicas de encuesta con una escala Likert y entrevista para la recopilación de información. Se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo para la encuesta de docentes y estudiantes con el uso del SPSS versión 21 y un análisis de correlación de Spearman. La información cualitativa de la entrevista fue analizada con el método reductivo y se realizó la triangulación por fuentes en el análisis. La mayoría de los factores pedagógicos, influyen de manera positiva en el desempeño docente, el factor psicológico asociado a este desempeño es la motivación, que incide en la selección de las estrategias metodológicas. La contribución de los procesos de evaluación al desempeño, se mide a través de la retención estudiantil y su alta demanda, considerándose la sede como un referente de la UCAN

Los fraccionamientos cerrados en México, una expresión de ‘anticiudad’

Las ciudades mexicanas tienden hacia una nueva expresión de segregación urbana en forma de fraccionamientos cerrados. Desde una perspectiva urbanística, este trabajo explora su generalización a través de los posibles factores detonantes. La ciudad estadounidense influye significativamente en el urbanismo mexicano; dicha relación es visible por ejemplo en sus modelos de baja densidad, ciudad del automóvil, segregación socio-espacial y arquitectura securitaria. Sin embargo, la desigualdad social en México parece conducir además a una ciudad extremadamente fragmentada, donde los fraccionamientos cerrados tienden a aumentar y sistematizar un modo de construir lo urbano. El trabajo plantea que los fraccionamientos cerrados de vivienda popular representan la generalización de la ciudad privatizada y fragmentada. Ante la cuestión de por qué una herramienta que surgió para determinadas gated communities se generaliza, se analizan los argumentos de seguridad y distinción, y las contradicciones que estos argumentos suponen al ser llevados a la vivienda popular. A Hamiltonian functional for the linearized Einstein vacuum field equations

By considering the Einstein vacuum field equations linearized about the Minkowski metric, the evolution equations for the gauge-invariant quantities characterizing the gravitational field are written in a Hamiltonian form by using a conserved functional as Hamiltonian; this Hamiltonian is not the analog of the energy of the field. A Poisson bracket between functionals of the field, compatible with the constraints satisfied by the field variables, is obtained.
