Kowalevski's analysis of the swinging Atwood's machine
We study the Kowalevski expansions near singularities of the swinging
Atwood's machine. We show that there is a infinite number of mass ratios
where such expansions exist with the maximal number of arbitrary constants.
These expansions are of the so--called weak Painlev\'e type. However, in view
of these expansions, it is not possible to distinguish between integrable and
non integrable cases.Comment: 30 page
Symmetric Periodic Solutions of the Anisotropic Manev Problem
We consider the Manev Potential in an anisotropic space, i.e., such that the
force acts differently in each direction. Using a generalization of the
Poincare' continuation method we study the existence of periodic solutions
for weak anisotropy. In particular we find that the symmetric periodic orbits
of the Manev system are perturbed to periodic orbits in the anisotropic

Symmetry, bifurcation and stacking of the central configurations of the planar 1+4 body problem
In this work we are interested in the central configurations of the planar
1+4 body problem where the satellites have different infinitesimal masses and
two of them are diametrically opposite in a circle. We can think this problem
as a stacked central configuration too. We show that the configuration are
necessarily symmetric and the other sattelites has the same mass. Moreover we
proved that the number of central configuration in this case is in general one,
two or three and in the special case where the satellites diametrically
opposite have the same mass we proved that the number of central configuration
is one or two saying the exact value of the ratio of the masses that provides

A feature-rich transmission spectrum for WASP-127b
WASP-127b is one of the lowest density planets discovered to date. With a
sub-Saturn mass () and super-Jupiter radius
(), it orbits a bright G5 star, which is about to
leave the main-sequence. We aim to explore WASP-127b's atmosphere in order to
retrieve its main atmospheric components, and to find hints for its intriguing
inflation and evolutionary history. We used the ALFOSC spectrograph at the NOT
telescope to observe a low resolution (, seeing limited) long-slit
spectroscopic time series during a planetary transit, and present here the
first transmission spectrum for WASP-127b. We find the presence of a strong
Rayleigh slope at blue wavelengths and a hint of Na absorption, although the
quality of the data does not allow us to claim a detection. At redder
wavelengths the absorption features of TiO and VO are the best explanation to
fit the data. Although higher signal-to-noise ratio observations are needed to
conclusively confirm the absorption features, WASP-127b seems to posses a
cloud-free atmosphere and is one of the best targets to perform further

Symmetric periodic orbits for the collinear charged 3-body problem

Na I and H absorption features in the atmosphere of MASCARA-2b/KELT-20b
We have used the HARPS-North high resolution spectrograph (=115
000) at TNG to observe one transit of the highly irradiated planet
MASCARA-2b/KELT-20b. Using only one transit observation, we are able to clearly
resolve the spectral features of the atomic sodium (Na I) doublet and the
H line in its atmosphere, measuring absorption depths of
0.170.03 and 0.590.08 for a 0.75 passband,
respectively. These absorptions are corroborated with the transmission measured
from their respective transmission light curves, which show a large
Rossiter-McLaughlin effect. In case of H, this absorption corresponds
to an effective radius of =1.200.04. While the S/N of the
final transmission spectrum is not sufficient to adjust different temperature
profiles to the lines, we find that higher temperatures than the equilibrium
are needed to explain the lines contrast. Particularly, we find that the Na I
lines core require a temperature of T=4210180K and that H requires
T=4330520K. MASCARA-2b, like other planets orbiting A-type stars, receives
a large amount of UV energy from its host star. This energy excites the atomic
hydrogen and produces H absorption, leading to the expansion and
abrasion of the atmosphere. The study of other Balmer lines in the transmission
spectrum would allow the determination of the atmospheric temperature profile
and the calculation of the lifetime of the atmosphere. In the case of
MASCARA-2b, residual features are observed in the H and H lines,
but they are not statistically significant. More transit observations are
needed to confirm our findings in Na I and H, and to build up enough
S/N to explore the presence of H and H planetary absorptions.Comment: 14 pages, 12 figure
Infinitely many periodic orbits for the rhomboidal five-body problem
We prove the existence of infinitely many symmetric periodic orbits for a regularized
rhomboidal five-body problem with four small masses placed at the vertices of
a rhombus centered in the fifth mass. The main tool for proving the existence of
such periodic orbits is the analytic continuation method of Poincaré together with
the symmetries of the problem. © 2006 American Institute of Physics
Low skeletal muscle mass assessed directly from the 3rd cervical vertebra can predict pharyngocutaneous fistula risk after total laryngectomy in the male population

European Regional Development Fund (A Way to Build Europe).Purpose: Skeletal muscle mass (SMM) loss and sarcopenia have been identified as risk factors for postoperative complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) formation after total laryngectomy (TL) and SMM assessed from a computed tomography image of the 3rd cervical vertebra (C3). Methods: Retrospective study of 86 male patients who underwent TL between 2013 and 2019 in a single institution. We excluded women from the analysis due to our limited sample. SMM was determined from cross-sectional muscle area (CSMA) measurement at C3 using the ImageJ software. Results were compared with those for the skeletal muscle mass index (SMMI) calculated from the estimated measure at 3rd lumbar vertebra (L3). Results: PCF formation occurred in 21/86 patients. According to the CSMA at a C3 cut-off of 35.5cm2, of 18 patients (20.9%) with low SMM, 9 developed PCFs (50.0%). Among patients with normal SMM (n = 68, 79.1%), 12 developed PCFs (17.6%). The CSMA at C3 was the only variable significantly associated with PCF risk, which was 4.7 times greater in patients with low SMM (p = 0.007). Sarcopenia was more frequent in underweight patients (p = 0.0001), patients undergoing extended surgeries (p = 0.003), or presenting preoperative anaemia (p = 0.009) or hypoalbuminemia (p = 0.027). Conclusion: Measuring the CSMA at C3 obtained results equivalent to those obtained by calculating the SMMI at L3, suggesting that direct SMM assessment from C3 is a useful approach to evaluating PCF formation risk after TL
Homoclinic crossing in open systems: Chaos in periodically perturbed monopole plus quadrupolelike potentials
The Melnikov method is applied to periodically perturbed open systems modeled
by an inverse--square--law attraction center plus a quadrupolelike term. A
compactification approach that regularizes periodic orbits at infinity is
introduced. The (modified) Smale-Birkhoff homoclinic theorem is used to study
transversal homoclinic intersections. A larger class of open systems with
degenerated (nonhyperbolic) unstable periodic orbits after regularization is
