The evaluation of laser weldability of the third-generation advanced high strength steel
To meet the demands of vehicular safety and greenhouse gas emission reduction,
the automotive industry is increasingly using advanced high strength steels (AHSS) in the production
of the components. With the development of the new generation of AHSS, it is essential to study
their behavior towards manufacturing processes used in the automotive industry. For this purpose,
the welding capability of newly developed third-generation Gen3 980T steel was investigated using the
Nd:YAG (Neodymium:Yittrium Aluminum Garnet) laser-welding with different parameter conditions.
The analysis was made by uniaxial tensile tests, micro-hardness, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The criteria used to evaluate the quality of the weld were the distance
between the fracture and the weld bead and the surface finish. A relationship between the quality of
the weld and the energy density was observed, expressed by a partial penetration for values below
the optimal, and by irregularities in the weld bead and a high number of spatters for the values above
the optimal.publishe

Areas of natural occurrence of melipona scutellaris Latreille, 1811(Hymenoptera: Apidae) in the state of Bahia, Brazil.
The bee Melipona scutellaris is considered the reared meliponine species with the largest distribution in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, with records from the state of Rio Grande do Norte down to the state of Bahia. Considering the importance of this species in the generation of income for family agriculture and in the preservation of areas with natural vegetation, this study aimed at providing knowledge on the distribution of natural colonies of M. scutellaris in the state of Bahia. Literature information, interviews with stinglessbee beekeepers, and expeditions were conducted to confirm the natural occurrence of the species. A total of 102 municipalities showed records for M. scutellaris, whose occurrence was observed in areas ranging from sea level up to 1,200-meter height. The occurrence of this species in the state of Bahia is considered to be restricted to municipalities on the coastal area and the Chapada Diamantina with its rainforests. Geographic coordinates, elevation, climate and vegetation data were obtained, which allowed a map to be prepared for the area of occurrence in order to support conservation and management policies for the species
SOPHIE velocimetry of Kepler transit candidates XII. KOI-1257 b: a highly eccentric three-month period transiting exoplanet
In this paper we report a new transiting warm giant planet: KOI-1257 b. It
was first detected in photometry as a planet-candidate by the
space telescope and then validated thanks to a radial velocity follow-up with
the SOPHIE spectrograph. It orbits its host star with a period of 86.647661 d
3 s and a high eccentricity of 0.772 0.045. The planet transits the
main star of a metal-rich, relatively old binary system with stars of mass of
0.99 0.05 Msun and 0.70 0.07 Msun for the primary and secondary,
respectively. This binary system is constrained thanks to a self-consistent
modelling of the transit light curve, the SOPHIE radial
velocities, line bisector and full-width half maximum (FWHM) variations, and
the spectral energy distribution. However, future observations are needed to
confirm it. The PASTIS fully-Bayesian software was used to validate the nature
of the planet and to determine which star of the binary system is the transit
host. By accounting for the dilution from the binary both in photometry and in
radial velocity, we find that the planet has a mass of 1.45 0.35 Mjup,
and a radius of 0.94 0.12 Rjup, and thus a bulk density of 2.1
1.2 g.cm. The planet has an equilibrium temperature of 511 50 K,
making it one of the few known members of the warm-jupiter population. The
HARPS-N spectrograph was also used to observe a transit of KOI-1257 b,
simultaneously with a joint amateur and professional photometric follow-up,
with the aim of constraining the orbital obliquity of the planet. However, the
Rossiter-McLaughlin effect was not clearly detected, resulting in poor

The VISCACHA survey - I. Overview and first results
TheVISCACHA (VIsible Soar photometry of star Clusters in tApii and Coxi HuguA) Survey is an ongoing project based on deep photometric observations of Magellanic Cloud star clusters, collected using the SOuthern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) telescope together with the SOAR Adaptive Module Imager. Since 2015 more than 200 h of telescope time were used to observe about 130 stellar clusters, most of them with low mass (M < 104MΘ) and/or located in the outermost regions of the Large Magellanic Cloud and the Small Magellanic Cloud.With this high-quality data set, we homogeneously determine physical properties from statistical analysis of colour-magnitude diagrams, radial density profiles, luminosity functions, and mass functions. Ages, metallicities, reddening, distances, present-day masses, mass function slopes, and structural parameters for these clusters are derived and used as a proxy to investigate the interplay between the environment in theMagellanic Clouds and the evolution of such systems. In this first paper we present the VISCACHA Survey and its initial results, concerning the SMC clusters AM3, K37, HW20, and NGC 796 and the LMC ones KMHK228, OHSC3, SL576, SL61, and SL897, chosen to compose a representative subset of our cluster sample. Environmental Implications of a Stabilization Pond Effluent Released in Paraná River at Ilha Solteira, Brazil: The Quality of Water and Sediment
Sewage treatment plants in Ilha Solteira City, which consist of stabilization ponds, have been modifying water and sediment characteristics around sewage outfall area. Water quality parameters such as dissolved oxygen (OD) and conductivity were directly influenced by the sewage outfall. OD values were reported before (6.36 mg L-1) and after (2.94 mg L-1) the sewage outfall. Measurement of organic matter content in the sediment showed the same pattern, with values of 1.34% and 4.80% for the SP1 and SP3 samples, respectively. A copper and zinc analysis indicated that metals are being transported through the water column, and SP3 is an important sedimentation zone. The total concentrations reported for copper are 6.48, 26.97, 37.54, 27.12 and 18.55 mg kg-1 for SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4 and SP5, respectively, and the total concentrations for zinc are 11.21, 48.53, 67.41, 58.62 and 24.76 mg kg-1. Bureau Community of Reference (BCR) sequential extraction indicated the following bioavailability order of copper and zinc: SP1 < SP5 < SP4 < SP3 < SP2. At SP2, more than 70% of the copper and zinc is found in bioavailable fractions. Benthic organism’s analysis indicates that the Oligochaetes correlation with organic matter content is related to the decrease in water quality.

Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant nanostructured cellulose membranes loaded with phenolic-based ionic liquids for cutaneous application
The utilization of natural compounds, such as phenolic acids and biopolymers, in the healthcare domain is gaining increasing attention. In this study, bacterial nanocellulose (BC) membranes were loaded with ionic liquids (ILs) based on phenolic acids. These ionic compounds, with improved solubility and bioavailability, were prepared by combining the cholinium cation with anions derived from caffeic, ellagic and gallic acids. The obtained BC-ILs membranes were homogeneous, conformable and their swelling ability agreed with the solubility of each IL. These membranes revealed a controlled ILs dissolution rate in the wet state and high antioxidant activity. In vitro assays performed with Raw 264.7 macrophages and HaCaT keratinocytes revealed that these novel BC-ILs membranes are non-cytotoxic and present relevant anti-inflammatory properties. Diffusion studies with Hanson vertical diffusion cells showed a prolonged release profile of the ILs from the BC membranes. Comment on "On the subtleties of searching for dark matter with liquid xenon detectors"
In a recent manuscript (arXiv:1208.5046) Peter Sorensen claims that
XENON100's upper limits on spin-independent WIMP-nucleon cross sections for
WIMP masses below 10 GeV "may be understated by one order of magnitude or
more". Having performed a similar, though more detailed analysis prior to the
submission of our new result (arXiv:1207.5988), we do not confirm these
findings. We point out the rationale for not considering the described effect
