Finite-volume matrix elements of two-body states
In this talk, we present a framework for studying structural information of
resonances and bound states coupling to two-hadron scattering states. This
makes use of a recently proposed finite-volume formalism to determine a class
of observables that are experimentally inaccessible but can be accessed via
lattice QCD. In particular, we shown that finite-volume two-body matrix
elements with one current insertion can be directly related to scattering
amplitudes coupling to the external current. For two-hadron systems with
resonances or bound states, one can extract the corresponding form factors of
these from the energy-dependence of the amplitudes.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of Lattice 201
On-Shell Representations of Two-Body Transition Amplitudes: Single External Current
This work explores scattering amplitudes that couple two-particle systems via a single external current insertion, 2 + J → 2. Such amplitudes can provide structural information about the excited QCD spectrum. We derive an exact analytic representation for these reactions. From these amplitudes, we show how to rigorously define resonance and bound-state form factors. Furthermore, we explore the consequences of the narrow-width limit of the amplitudes as well as the role of the Ward-Takahashi identity for conserved vector currents. These results hold for any number of two-body channels with no intrinsic spin, and a current with arbitrary Lorentz structure and quantum numbers. This work and the existing finite-volume formalism provide a complete framework for determining this class of amplitudes from lattice QCD
Stocking density and its influence on the productivity of red cusk eel, Genypterus chilensis (Guichenot, 1848), in shallow raceways
We compared the growth properties of red cusk eel Genypterus chilensis with initial mean weight ± standard error, 106.2 ± 6.1 g reared in shallow raceways at three different stocking densities (28.5, 46.1, and 60.7 kg m-3) in a 226-day long growth trial at a constant temperature of 17°C. There was a trend towards higher specific growth rates at the highest density. Final mean weights were 333 ± 12, 352 ± 12, and 354 ± 15 g, at the 30, 45, and 60 kg m-3 density, respectively. Overall, the growth rates were higher in the 60 kg m-3 density group than the two other density groups. The daily feeding intake (%) was higher in the medium (0.51), and high (0.55) density groups compared the low-density group (0.45). Feed conversion efficiency (FCE) did not differ between the density groups. A significant size rank correlation was maintained in all density groups throughout the study. Calculated productivity increased almost linearly with increasing stocking density and was found to be 32, 34, and 39 g m-2 d-1 at 30, 45, and 60 kg m-3, respectively. The results show that the optimum density conditions for farming juvenile red cusk eel, both concerning growth rate, feed conversion, and productivity is at densities equal to or higher than 60 kg m-3.publishedVersio

A Pliocene-Pleistocene continental biota from Venezuela
The Pliocene-Pleistocene transition in the Neotropics is poorly understood despite the major climatic changes that occurred at the onset of the Quaternary. The San Gregorio Formation, the younger unit of the Urumaco Sequence, preserves a fauna that documents this critical transition. We report stingrays, freshwater bony fishes, amphibians, crocodiles, lizards, snakes, aquatic and terrestrial turtles, and mammals. A total of 49 taxa are reported from the Vergel Member (late Pliocene) and nine taxa from the Cocuiza Member (Early Pleistocene), with 28 and 18 taxa reported for the first time in the Urumaco sequence and Venezuela, respectively. Our findings include the first fossil record of the freshwater fishes Megaleporinus, Schizodon, Amblydoras, Scorpiodoras, and the pipesnake Anilius scytale, all from Pliocene strata. The late Pliocene and Early Pleistocene ages proposed here for the Vergel and Cocuiza members, respectively, are supported by their stratigraphic position, palynology, nannoplankton, and 86 Sr/ 88 Sr dating. Mammals from the Vergel Member are associated with the first major pulse of the Great American Biotic Interchange. In contrast to the dry conditions prevailing today, the San Gregorio Formation documents mixed open grassland/forest areas surrounding permanent freshwater systems, following the isolation of the northern South American basin from western Amazonia. These findings support the hypothesis that range contraction of many taxa to their current distribution in northern South America occurred rapidly during at least the last 1.5 million years
Affectus Hispaniae en la historiografía del Alto Imperio
This paper analyses texts written by Greek and Latin High Empire historians dealing with Hispania. Some of the authors have a very positive view (Florus, Iustinus, Appian) while others are clearly negative (Veleius Paterculus, Valerius Maximus) though most of them show little interest, indifference or variety of opinions. When there is interest in the region or praise, it is because the author comes from Hispania or he is trying to please an emperor born in Hispania, but it could also be due to a universal conception of history revealing a critical attitude towards Roman imperialism, as in Appian. The praise found in Iustinus’s epitome should be attributed to the author of the epitome rather than to Pompeius Trogus. This can be taken as evidence for situating Iustinus’s life and work in the 2nd century A.D. Loathing of Hispania seems to have its origins in conservative, ‘optimate’ nationalist circles, who perceive the province as the ‘popular’ region that acclaimed and welcomed ‘seditious’ individuals such as Tiberius Gracchus and Sertorius.
The TESS-Keck Survey II: An Ultra-Short Period Rocky Planet and its Siblings Transiting the Galactic Thick-Disk Star TOI-561
We report the discovery of TOI-561, a multi-planet system in the galactic
thick disk that contains a rocky, ultra-short period planet (USP). This bright
() star hosts three small transiting planets identified in photometry
from the NASA TESS mission: TOI-561 b (TOI-561.02, P=0.44 days, ), c (TOI-561.01, P=10.8 days,
), and d (TOI-561.03, P=16.3 days,
). The star is chemically ([Fe/H],
[/H]) and kinematically consistent with the galactic
thick disk population, making TOI-561 one of the oldest (Gyr) and
most metal-poor planetary systems discovered yet. We dynamically confirm
planets b and c with radial velocities from the W. M. Keck Observatory High
Resolution Echelle Spectrometer. Planet b has a mass and density of
and gcm, consistent with
a rocky composition. Its lower-than-average density is consistent with an
iron-poor composition, although an Earth-like iron-to-silicates ratio is not
ruled out. Planet c is and gcm,
consistent with an interior rocky core overlaid with a low-mass volatile
envelope. Several attributes of the photometry for planet d (which we did not
detect dynamically) complicate the analysis, but we vet the planet with
high-contrast imaging, ground-based photometric follow-up and radial
velocities. TOI-561 b is the first rocky world around a galactic thick-disk
star confirmed with radial velocities and one of the best rocky planets for
thermal emission studies.Comment: Accepted at The Astronomical Journal; 25 pages, 10 figure

Global variations in diabetes mellitus based on fasting glucose and haemogloblin A1c
Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) are both used to diagnose
diabetes, but may identify different people as having diabetes. We used data from 117
population-based studies and quantified, in different world regions, the prevalence of
diagnosed diabetes, and whether those who were previously undiagnosed and detected
as having diabetes in survey screening had elevated FPG, HbA1c, or both. We developed
prediction equations for estimating the probability that a person without previously
diagnosed diabetes, and at a specific level of FPG, had elevated HbA1c, and vice versa.
The age-standardised proportion of diabetes that was previously undiagnosed, and
detected in survey screening, ranged from 30% in the high-income western region to 66%
in south Asia. Among those with screen-detected diabetes with either test, the agestandardised
proportion who had elevated levels of both FPG and HbA1c was 29-39%
across regions; the remainder had discordant elevation of FPG or HbA1c. In most low- and
middle-income regions, isolated elevated HbA1c more common than isolated elevated
FPG. In these regions, the use of FPG alone may delay diabetes diagnosis and
underestimate diabetes prevalence. Our prediction equations help allocate finite
resources for measuring HbA1c to reduce the global gap in diabetes diagnosis and
surveillance.peer-reviewe
