Confirmation of a pi_1^0 Exotic Meson in the \eta \pi^0 System
The exclusive reaction , at 18 GeV has been studied with a partial wave analysis on a sample
of 23~492 events from BNL experiment E852. A mass-dependent fit
is consistent with a resonant hypothesis for the wave, thus providing
evidence for a neutral exotic meson with , a mass of MeV, and a width of MeV. New
interpretations of the meson exotics in neutral system observed in
E852 and Crystal Barrel experiments are discussed.Comment: p3, rewording the paragraph (at the bottom) about the phase

Exotic Meson Production in the System observed in the Reaction at 18 GeV/c
This letter reports results from the partial wave analysis of the
final state in collisions at 18GeV/c.
Strong evidence is observed for production of two mesons with exotic quantum
numbers of spin, parity and charge conjugation, in the decay
channel . The mass MeV/c^2 and
width MeV/c^2 of the first state are consistent
with the parameters of the previously observed . The second
resonance with mass MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2 agrees very well with predictions from theoretical
models. In addition, the presence of is confirmed with mass MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2
and a new state, , is observed with mass
MeV/c^2 and width MeV/c^2. The decay properties of
these last two states are consistent with flux tube model predictions for
hybrid mesons with non-exotic quantum numbers
Spatiotemporal multi-resolution approximation of the Amari type neural field model
Neural fields are spatially continuous state variables described by integro-differential equations, which are well suited to describe the spatiotemporal evolution of cortical activations on multiple scales. Here we develop a multi-resolution approximation (MRA) framework for the integro-difference equation (IDE) neural field model based on semi-orthogonal cardinal B-spline wavelets. In this way, a flexible framework is created, whereby both macroscopic and microscopic behavior of the system can be represented simultaneously. State and parameter estimation is performed using the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. A synthetic example is provided to demonstrate the framework
A study of the reaction pim p --> omega pim p at 18 GeV/c: The D and S decay amplitudes for b1(1235) --> omega pi
The reaction pim p --> omega pim p, omega --> pip pim pi0 has been studied at
18 GeV/c. The omega pim mass spectrum is found to be dominated by the b1(1235).
Partial Wave Analysis shows that b1 production is dominated by natural parity
exchange. The S-wave and D-wave amplitudes for b1(1235) --> omega pi have been
determined, and it is found that the amplitude ratio, |D/S| = 0.269 +/-
(0.009)stat +/- (0.01)sys and the phase difference, phi(D-S) = 10.54 deg +/-

Crystal Structure of the Hendra Virus Attachment G Glycoprotein Bound to a Potent Cross-Reactive Neutralizing Human Monoclonal Antibody
The henipaviruses, represented by Hendra (HeV) and Nipah (NiV) viruses are highly pathogenic zoonotic paramyxoviruses with uniquely broad host tropisms responsible for repeated outbreaks in Australia, Southeast Asia, India and Bangladesh. The high morbidity and mortality rates associated with infection and lack of licensed antiviral therapies make the henipaviruses a potential biological threat to humans and livestock. Henipavirus entry is initiated by the attachment of the G envelope glycoprotein to host cell membrane receptors. Previously, henipavirus-neutralizing human monoclonal antibodies (hmAb) have been isolated using the HeV-G glycoprotein and a human naïve antibody library. One cross-reactive and receptor-blocking hmAb (m102.4) was recently demonstrated to be an effective post-exposure therapy in two animal models of NiV and HeV infection, has been used in several people on a compassionate use basis, and is currently in development for use in humans. Here, we report the crystal structure of the complex of HeV-G with m102.3, an m102.4 derivative, and describe NiV and HeV escape mutants. This structure provides detailed insight into the mechanism of HeV and NiV neutralization by m102.4, and serves as a blueprint for further optimization of m102.4 as a therapeutic agent and for the development of entry inhibitors and vaccines
Avaliação do impacto da suplementação alimentar a gestantes no cotrole do baixo peso ao nascer no município de São Paulo, SP (Brasil)
A partir de estudo realizado em oito grandes maternidades do Município de São Paulo, SP (Brasil) que atendem clientela predominantemente de baixo nível sócio-econômico, objetivou-se analisar o impacto da suplementação alimentar durante a assistência pré-natal sobre a incidência de recém-nascidos de baixo peso ao nascer (peso < 2.500 g). Foram envolvidos no estudo 1.060 recém-nascidos de mães que receberam suplementação e 664 recém-nascidos de mães que não a receberam. Ã incidência de baixo peso ao nascer foi de cerca de 11%, considerada elevada e semelhante em ambos os grupos de recém-nascidos. A análise multivariada, realizada para controlar eventuais diferenças entre os grupos, que não a condição de suplementação, descartou qualquer associação significativa entre suplementação e peso ao nascer e revelou, por outro lado, que tabagismo e morbidade na gestação e determinadas características antropométricas e reprodutivas da mãe, prévias à gestação, são importantes fatores de risco para o baixo peso ao nascer. A aparente explicação para a ausência de impacto da suplementação alimentar na população estudada parece residir não na quantidade insuficiente da suplementação alimentar oferecida (370 Kcal/dia), mas no predomínio de fatores não alimentares na determinação do baixo peso ao nascer. São formuladas recomendações quanto ao controle do baixo peso ao nascer no contexto estudado

Large-scale phenotyping of patients with long COVID post-hospitalization reveals mechanistic subtypes of disease
One in ten severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infections result in prolonged symptoms termed long coronavirus disease (COVID), yet disease phenotypes and mechanisms are poorly understood1. Here we profiled 368 plasma proteins in 657 participants ≥3 months following hospitalization. Of these, 426 had at least one long COVID symptom and 233 had fully recovered. Elevated markers of myeloid inflammation and complement activation were associated with long COVID. IL-1R2, MATN2 and COLEC12 were associated with cardiorespiratory symptoms, fatigue and anxiety/depression; MATN2, CSF3 and C1QA were elevated in gastrointestinal symptoms and C1QA was elevated in cognitive impairment. Additional markers of alterations in nerve tissue repair (SPON-1 and NFASC) were elevated in those with cognitive impairment and SCG3, suggestive of brain–gut axis disturbance, was elevated in gastrointestinal symptoms. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) was persistently elevated in some individuals with long COVID, but virus was not detected in sputum. Analysis of inflammatory markers in nasal fluids showed no association with symptoms. Our study aimed to understand inflammatory processes that underlie long COVID and was not designed for biomarker discovery. Our findings suggest that specific inflammatory pathways related to tissue damage are implicated in subtypes of long COVID, which might be targeted in future therapeutic trials
SARS-CoV-2-specific nasal IgA wanes 9 months after hospitalisation with COVID-19 and is not induced by subsequent vaccination
BACKGROUND: Most studies of immunity to SARS-CoV-2 focus on circulating antibody, giving limited insights into mucosal defences that prevent viral replication and onward transmission. We studied nasal and plasma antibody responses one year after hospitalisation for COVID-19, including a period when SARS-CoV-2 vaccination was introduced. METHODS: In this follow up study, plasma and nasosorption samples were prospectively collected from 446 adults hospitalised for COVID-19 between February 2020 and March 2021 via the ISARIC4C and PHOSP-COVID consortia. IgA and IgG responses to NP and S of ancestral SARS-CoV-2, Delta and Omicron (BA.1) variants were measured by electrochemiluminescence and compared with plasma neutralisation data. FINDINGS: Strong and consistent nasal anti-NP and anti-S IgA responses were demonstrated, which remained elevated for nine months (p < 0.0001). Nasal and plasma anti-S IgG remained elevated for at least 12 months (p < 0.0001) with plasma neutralising titres that were raised against all variants compared to controls (p < 0.0001). Of 323 with complete data, 307 were vaccinated between 6 and 12 months; coinciding with rises in nasal and plasma IgA and IgG anti-S titres for all SARS-CoV-2 variants, although the change in nasal IgA was minimal (1.46-fold change after 10 months, p = 0.011) and the median remained below the positive threshold determined by pre-pandemic controls. Samples 12 months after admission showed no association between nasal IgA and plasma IgG anti-S responses (R = 0.05, p = 0.18), indicating that nasal IgA responses are distinct from those in plasma and minimally boosted by vaccination. INTERPRETATION: The decline in nasal IgA responses 9 months after infection and minimal impact of subsequent vaccination may explain the lack of long-lasting nasal defence against reinfection and the limited effects of vaccination on transmission. These findings highlight the need to develop vaccines that enhance nasal immunity. FUNDING: This study has been supported by ISARIC4C and PHOSP-COVID consortia. Étude d'excitation de l'oxygène 16 par diffusion inélastique d'électrons
We have examined the spectrum of electrons inelastically scattered from water targets with emphasis in the région of excitation known as the giant resonance in oxygen. The result shows that the giant resonance is formed by two principal electric dipole transitions with excitation énergies and relative intensities in good agreement with theoretical estimates. We have also observed two bands of excitation at energies equal to twice the energies of the giant resonance transitions. The results are analysed to give an expérimental form factor for these transitions which permits a multipole assignment.L'étude du spectre des électrons diffusés inélastiquement par une cible d'eau nous a permis de vérifier l'existence d'une structure fine dans la résonance géante de l'oxygène 16. D'autre part, nous avons mis en évidence une résonance double se produisant pour une énergie égale à deux fois celle de la résonance géante. Une analyse de la variation de la section efficace de ces diverses résonances en fonction du transfert de quantité de mouvement doit nous permettre d'assigner une multipolarité à chacune des transitions excitées
