Basket-Handle Arch and Its Optimum Symmetry Generation as a Structural Element and Keeping the Aesthetic Point of View

The arches were a great advance in construction with respect to the rigid Greek linteled architecture. Its development came from the hand of the great Roman constructions, especially with the semicircular arch. In successive historical periods, different types of arches have been emerging, which in addition to their structural function was taking aesthetic characteristics that are used today to define the architectural style. When, in the construction of a bow, the rise is less than half the springing line, the semicircular arch is no longer used and the segmental arch is used, and then on to another more efficient and aesthetic arch, the basket-handle arch. This study examines the classic geometry of the basket-handle arch also called the three-centered arch. A solution is proposed from a constructive and aesthetic point of view, and this is approached both geometrically and analytically, where the relationship between the radius of the central arch and the radius of the lateral arch is minimized. The solution achieved allows the maximum springing line or clear span to be saved with the minimum rise that preserves the aesthetic point of view, since the horizontal thrust of a bow is greater than the relationship between the springing line of the arch and the rise. This solution has been programmed and the resulting software has made it possible to analyse existing arches in historic buildings or constructions to check if their solutions were close or not from both points of view. Thus, it has been possible to verify that in most of the existing arches analyzed, the proposed solution is reached

This article focuses on the analysis of phraseological units in Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, drawing upon the linguistic approach of Explanatory and Combinatorial Lexicology (LEC). The starting point is the concept of phraseological unit, which is described in the selected corpus along two axes, namely, a lexico-semantic axis and a textual one. The present article shows that phrasemes play a fundamental role for the comprehension of the text (in this case in French and Spanish) and provide textual cohesion from inferences during the elaboration of meaning. This article focuses on the analysis of phraseological units in Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, drawing upon the linguistic approach of Explanatory and Combinatorial Lexicology (LEC).

LPS promotes Th2 dependent sensitisation leading to anaphylaxis in a Pru p 3 mouse model

Pru p 3 is the major peach allergen in the Mediterranean area. It frequently elicits severe reactions, limiting its study in humans, raising the need for animal models to investigate the immunological mechanisms involved. However, no anaphylaxis model exists for Pru p 3. We aimed to develop a model of peach anaphylaxis by sensitising mice with Pru p 3 in combination with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as an adjuvant. Four groups of mice were sensitised intranasally: untreated; treated with Pru p 3; treated with LPS; treated with Pru p 3 + LPS. After sensitisation mice were intraperitoneally challenged with Pru p 3 and in vivo and in vitro parameters were evaluated. Only mice in the Pru p 3 + LPS group showed anaphylaxis symptoms, including a decrease in temperature. Determination of in vitro parameters showed a Th2 response with an increase of Pru p 3-specific IgE and IgG1. Moreover, at the cellular level, we found increased levels of IgE and IgG1 secreting Pru p 3-specific cells and a proliferative CD4+ T-cell response. These results demonstrate that Pru p 3-specific anaphylaxis can be generated after nasal sensitisation to Pru p 3 in combination with LPS. This is a promising model for evaluating food allergy immunotherapies.Unión Europea, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Instituto de Salud "Carlos III" PI12 / 02481Unión Europea, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Instituto de Salud "Carlos III" PI15 / 00559Unión Europea, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Instituto de Salud "Carlos III" RD 07/0064Unión Europea, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Instituto de Salud "Carlos III" RD12 / 0013/0001Unión Europea, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Instituto de Salud "Carlos III" RD07 / 0064/0003Unión Europea, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, Instituto de Salud "Carlos III" RD12 / 0013/0016Unión Europea, Ministerio de Andalucía Economía y Conocimiento CTS-7433Unión Europea, Ministerio de Andalucía Economía y Conocimiento C-0044-2012 SAS2013Unión Europea, Ministerio de Andalucía Economía y Conocimiento Ref. Nuraghe project: Strategies for the creation of a digital environment for international coexistence

[EN] The Nuraghe Project is an international archaeological research and training project in the southwest of Sardinia: the Nuraghe Candelargiu, in San Giovanni Suergiu(SU). As the work progressed, the need to create a common window in which to further develop the project and make the site accessible was highlighted, especially after the COVID pandemic that prevented the archaeology workshop from being held for the last two years, in order to allow a continuous transfer of knowledge based on the activities that characterize it: training, research, cultural exchange and coexistence. From this need was born "Virtual Candelargiu" as an interactive space integrated within the Nuraghe Project website and with the aim of becoming a place of learning and coexistence where the values that distinguish the project are combined, being its fundamental pillar the protection of archaeological heritage from collaborative work.[ES] El Proyecto Nuraghe es un proyecto internacional de investigación y formación arqueológica de uno de los yacimientos más importantes del suroeste de Cerdeña: el Nuraghe Candelargiu, en San Giovanni Suergiu (SU). Rodríguez Azogue, A.; Carranza Peco, LM.; Gómez Díaz, A.; Puddu, M.; Rodríguez Gutiérrez, O.; Fernández Flores, Á. Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from immune tissues of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) challenged with pathogens

    Get PDF
Background: The turbot (Scophthalmus maximus; Scophthalmidae; Pleuronectiformes) is a flatfish species of great relevance for marine aquaculture in Europe. In contrast to other cultured flatfish, very few genomic resources are available in this species. Aeromonas salmonicida and Philasterides dicentrarchi are two pathogens that affect turbot culture causing serious economic losses to the turbot industry. Little is known about the molecular mechanisms for disease resistance and hostpathogen interactions in this species. In this work, thousands of ESTs for functional genomic studies and potential markers linked to ESTs for mapping (microsatellites and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)) are provided. This information enabled us to obtain a preliminary view of regulated genes in response to these pathogens and it constitutes the basis for subsequent and more accurate microarray analysis. Results: A total of 12584 cDNAs partially sequenced from three different cDNA libraries of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) infected with Aeromonas salmonicida, Philasterides dicentrarchi and from healthy fish were analyzed. Three immune-relevant tissues (liver, spleen and head kidney) were sampled at several time points in the infection process for library construction. The sequences were processed into 9256 high-quality sequences, which constituted the source for the turbot EST database. Clustering and assembly of these sequences, revealed 3482 different putative transcripts, 1073 contigs and 2409 singletons. BLAST searches with public databases detected significant similarity (e-value ≤ 1e-5) in 1766 (50.7%) sequences and 816 of them (23.4%) could be functionally annotated. Two hundred three of these genes (24.9%), encoding for defence/immunerelated proteins, were mostly identified for the first time in turbot. Some ESTs showed significant differences in the number of transcripts when comparing the three libraries, suggesting regulation in response to these pathogens. A total of 191 microsatellites, with 104 having sufficient flanking sequences for primer design, and 1158 putative SNPs were identified from these EST resources in turbot. Conclusion: A collection of 9256 high-quality ESTs was generated representing 3482 unique turbot sequences. A large proportion of defence/immune-related genes were identified, many of them regulated in response to specific pathogens. Putative microsatellites and SNPs were identified. These genome resources constitute the basis to develop a microarray for functional genomics studies and marker validation for genetic linkage and QTL analysis in turbot. This study was supported by a Consellería de Pesca e Asuntos Marítimos and the Dirección Xeral de I+D – Xunta de Galicia project (2004/CP480)S
